I'm not good at reviews, but I said I'd review all the books I read this year so I'm making the effort. I felt like this was a perfect intermediary between the first and second novel of this series. It gave us more views into both Kell and Lilah in a less than dire situation whilst planting the seeds for the devastation of the third book. I really liked the fact that the bad was brewing in the back and didn't quite touch until the end, so we really got to see a lot from these characters' interactions with each other and others. It was important to me to learn more about them and that's why it made me more invested in the series and like it even more than the first book, even though the first did pull me in quite easily.

Overall, definitely one of the best sequels! Can't wait for the third.

I was sucked in by this book from the first page, mostly by how different it was from what I've been reading previously. Yes, there's still magic in it, but it's done differently and with a keen eye. The parallel worlds are what actually made me pick the book up and I enjoyed them the most - I like hearing how each world differs, even if it's just in the one city. The plot was great, characters were believable and likeable and annoying all in one go which is just how they should be. Made me hungry for the second book.
