I haven't read much published omegaverse and was so excited to read this book by an black author!
This book take place in an post-apocalyptic world where alphas, betas, and the few remaining omegas struggle to survive. Echo is kicked from her community when she presents as an omega and tries to survive on her own in Paradise Hole. She is eventually hunted and claimed by a Berserker named Adam who was fated to find her.
The Good
I loved that Echo was one of the first female leads I've seen actually try to actually off themselves in order to be free. That's always been my first thought in these situations and it was satisfying to see a story really go there.
The enemies part of the enemies to lovers was done really well in the beginning of this book. It wasn't a straight line from enemies to oh now we love each other. It was a fight the whole way. Both Adam and Echo had scars from the dystopian world they lived in and it made trust, connection, and vulnerability really hard.
The world building was really interesting. It takes place in this very dystopian world that reminded me of Mad Max a little. The subplot with the alphas, omegas and betas was really interesting to me.
The Bad
The amount of jumping to conclusions these characters did frustrated me. I understood why character wise both Adam and Echo did this as people with trust issues, but it always came off as irrational as they would create theories based off of one sentence they misinterpreted and then change all their behavior based on something they made up themselves. It's peak miscommunication trope and it really annoyed me.
Once they got to the Dark City, I felt like a weird shift occurred and a lot of the good tension left. I felt that Adam's character stayed consistent but Echo's felt off. She just wilted now that she was in love with Adam. She bent to anything he asked her. And over the course of the next 40% of the book my enjoyment of their relationship waned and my desire to skim increased.
Echo did grow but I didn't feel like their relationship itself developed much past lust and mutual trauma. Their conflicts seemed to always be "resolved" but a kiss and more sex than real meaningful conversations and understanding of each other. This is also because Echo never stood on anything she said. She would put a boundary up and almost immediately give in to anything Adam said if he kissed her. Towards the end there is progress towards them being on more equal footing but it doesn't feel earned.
Tropes:
— Forced bonding/mating
— Enemies to Lovers
— Omegaverse
Horn Level: 4/5

I'm continuing my Jackie Lau binge! These books are perfect for romcom lovers!
The Good
I'm glad this was a novella as the fast pase made it spicy, sweet and a fun read. Nick and Lily seem complete opposites at first but really complement each other and fall deeper and deeper in love. I loved the families, especially the grandma! I was worried how their different relationship preferences were going to be resolved but it was wrapped up really well! It was so sweet!
Tropes:
— One Night Stand
— Opposites Attract
— Holiday Romance
Horn Level: 3/5

I cannot get enough of this series!
After the events of the previous book, Lo'Zar returns to his clan is assigned a new job - aid in the transfer of a human woman to her buyer. Lo'Zar is used to smuggling and other crimes but this feels wrong even to him. Rimi was snatched from her house across the sea and finds herself at the mercy of unkind trollkin who treat her like an animal and facing a fate much worse when if she reaches her buyers. Lo'Zar and Rimi begin to bond on his way and freeing her means he will have to give up everything his has and surviving the harsh jungle...
The Good
This book was so fun! It was as action packed as the cover suggests and dives into a lot of new aspects of world-building and lore that we haven't seen so far in the series. I really liked the expansion of the world (literally) and seeing the new trials couples would face now that the war was over. Lo'zar and Rimi were another great pair. The language barrier was solved in a very new and interesting way this time. Their journey was different than previous couple but so fun.
Tropes:
— Forbidden Love
— Language Barrier
— Troll MMC

I don't know much about baseball but I'm excited to read every queer sports romance I can find!
Minor league baseball player Gene has achieved more than he's ever hoped for. He's the league's first transgender player, and he's playing for the league at all. Until his former college teammate and friend Luis is sent down to the minors and onto his team... into his position. The two bash heads at every turn but slowing begin to understand and even love each other.
The Good
I devoured this book. From the moment I started I was drawn into the world of Gene and Luis in a way I couldn't predict. I had to do some googling on baseball terms because I truly don't know anything about the sport and the different leagues but once I go into it I was in.
I loved Gene. I love the theme of hope vs wanting and how we try to protect ourselves from disappointment. He was so bright and optimistic but also so full of fear and insecurity. I loved Luis too. I loved how his anxiety was handled and represented in this book. Gene and Luis's love story was really "rivials" to friends to lovers in a way I really loved. They both cared about and supported each other and I almost cried multiple times even at happy parts.
Tropes:
— Rivials to Lovers
— Trans MMC
— Sports Romance

Another Christmas read!
This book follows Stella who owns and operates a struggling farm with her friends. To give the fame fhe boost it needs, she drunkenly applies to an influencers contest. When she is chosen as a finalist, the fantasy she wrote about her running the farm with her boyfriend (who is in reality her best friend she's pining for) must come to life...
The Good
The tone of this is so light and fluffy. I knew from the blurb it was going to be a sweet story but it was able to not be too silly in its humor and still cute and funny. Stella and Luka have a really interesting relationship. I like friends to lovers a lot so I really enjoyed seeing how much they understood and supported each other. While this book is a romcom, it also deals with topics of grief that were woven into the story well. My favorite parts were the differing families and their dynamics.
The Bad
This book is very low angst and that made it a little boring at times. The mystery with who was tampering with things on her farm was a decent subplot with a meh resolution. The relationship needed more tension (and not sexual tension as I didn't feel that invested in their chemistry) as we built up to Evelyn actually arriving to the farm.
Tropes:
— Friends to Lovers
— Holiday Romance
— Fake Dating
— Small Town Romance

I'm becoming more and more obsessed with Jackie Lau's books! This time it's "Her Pretend Christmas Date" which is a novella in the Cider Bar Sisters Series!
The Good
This book has all the tropes of a good Christmas romcom – fake dating, family drama, and fun Christmas activities. Julie and Tom are really opposites. A free spirit versus type A personality. They are set up by a friend and it goes horribly as they find each other attractive but start off on a bad foot. But once they let their walls down and play the happy couple, their bickering becomes great flirty banter. They fell quickly and hard and I loved it!
Tropes:
— Fake Dating
— Opposites Attract
— Asian MCs
Horn Level: 3/5

I love Fae Quin and couldn't wait to read another title by here!
This book is about Ellis, the outsider in a small town who spends all his time on his farm with his dog Rotho. One day on his way back from town, he wonders off path and sees the towns iconic monster in the woods. He convinces himself it wasn't real until the monster, named Styx starts bringing him gifts and the two build a relationship like no other...
The Good
I loved loved loved this book! Ellis was such an interesting character. He was this socially awkward and shy man who prefers the company of his dog than the townspeople but who also craved for their acceptance and connection. I liked how his relationship with Styx was slowly built and the incorporation of a fairy tale. Having a half monster man slowly bring you gifts and do your chores is such a cute way for them to begin to bond. I also liked how Ellis developed over the course of the book and began to accept who is his and become more brave.
Tropes:
— Slow Burn
— Modern Fairytale
— Monster x Human
Horn Level: 4/5

Sometimes I just want to giggle and have fun and read the frat bro omegaverse that amazon keeps reccomending to me...
Brad is your typical frat boy while his brother XYZ is an antisocial loner who prefers books to people. An argument over his love of books leads to Brad deciding to actually begin to read one and he is soon literally sucked into the world of shifters and omegaverse after he gets into a car crash.
The Good
I love the tone of this book. It lighht heartly makes fun of the typical shifter omegaverse genre while also delivering what we like from it and sometimes subverting it in self-aware ways. The author obviously is familiar with how these shifter plots usually goes and it makes it fun for me to see him play with them. Instead of the oh so tiny female lead, we had frat boy Brad. I also love transmigration books so this was perfect for me. Transmigration books have their own set of tropes that often appear in them and it's fun to see it in a different genre of books!
I give this book a four out of five rating. I genuinely had a lot of fun reading this book and can't wait to see where the story goes!
