Ra's Mini Review!~
Characters:
Emmeline & William: I love how much of a team they were and how they slowly regained a romantic love for each other. George & Rose were so cute! George was so grumpy and protective and I loved how sweet and silly Rose was. Sometimes authors write children too adult like but these too were perfect. They also had their own worries and ideas as 3 dimensional people.
Plot:
The plot is insane and so fun. The concept was unique and made me excited to read. I do however feel like it dragged. The story itself is very simple and I found myself wanting the scenes to move much quicker especially when they didn't seem very crucial to the plot. I was so annoyed when the brother character was introduced in the middle. I know it was to build character relationships but it felt overly long.
Secret Sauce:
I love the tone of this book. It's humorous and fun. I love how the inner thoughts of characters and the dialogue is written. It feels like contemporary humor but not so much it takes me out of the book at all. I love the concept of two people relearning and recognizing changes in the other even though they've been together for years. I hadn't seen this before, especially in a marriage of convenience story where characters usually quickly fall in love.
Rating: I give this book a 2/5

Highlights:
I've never seen a unicorn in a monster romance before so this really called to me. The world-building with the different creatures and magic was the best part. Eliph was also an amazingly sweet and understanding male lead and I liked him a lot.
Lowlights:
I both liked and disliked the unicorn lore. Fated mates is okay for me but the other option being death is what I don't like. Steph's personality left much to be desired. She was very stubborn and brash and a bit unlikable. I also found the plot itself to be very slow.

I guess snake's really aren't to be trusted...
Characters:
Emilia is a human archivist and was introduced in the previous novel of this series. She hold a lot of anxiety and that effects her a lot. I liked her quite a bit.
m Jasper is a grumpy overworked viper shifter who wants both Emilia and Ari but denies himself anything. I really liked him and understood his insecurities. Ari is another snake shifter who after several years in a causal relationship with Jasper want to be together for-real, he sees Emilia as a way to make that happen. I disliked him that he was so manipulative. It was hard for me to turn off my critical brain to get past that aspect of his personality when it was so constant. Like 70% in the book he was still keeping secrets and wanted to put his need's first.
Plot:
There were a couple plot points going on here that I found interesting. There was a conflict between Jasper and Ari and what a relationship between them would mean because of their class differences. Meanwhile, Emilia has been "cursed" by a book from her job and is basically medusa-fied. The possible cure? Pleasure from a serpent kin. Her life further entangles with the basilisk duo as they search for a way to remove the "curse" while also developing a connection.
This was very relationship development focused which I like in paranormal romance. However, the relationship dynamic between Ari and each person really grated my interest. It was better when it wasn't in his POV and he wasn't obviously being manipulative and hiding things for his benefit. I wish it focused more on the outside conflicts affecting their relationship and not Ari keeping secrets and being sneaky. (He isn't even sorry either — not really.
Secret Sauce:
There was good chemistry and development between the characters which made their more explicit scenes together all the better. The nicknames made me cringe a lot though.

I received this title as an ARC through BookFunnel in exchange for a honest review. Thank you author K.L. Wyatt for the copy!
I loved 'Stolen by the Orc Commander' so I was excited to read more orc steaminess from this author and it delivered! I liked the concept of a running away bride finding herself now married to an orc. The only flaw was that it's short length prevented the love aspect to fall a bit short but the spice was amazing!

The Good
I am a Pride and Prejudice fan who loves retellings, variations, and remixes so I was so excited to read this book! I loved Oliver. His character was different enough from the original Elizabeth to be unique and his own person but similar enough that it felt like the character we all know and love. I really enjoyed his journey and his willingness not to settle for what he is being told he has to do but to dream of a different future. I loved how the discussion of marriage had a lot more weight to it in this story. While in the original it was about Elizabeth's general happiness and future, in this story it was about Oliver's ability to be himself at all. There were also a lot of great discussions about queerness and having to try to survive society at this time. Overall, I really enjoyed the plot changes and the direction it went in. I'm positive other Pride and Prejudice variation fans will love this book as well.
The Bad
If you know Charlotte's plot line from the original, there were changes in this book I really enjoyed that added interesting depth to certain conversations but ultimately it made her fate more depressing than it was in the original. I understand it's importance but I disliked it.

Highlights:
This book felt like a great mixture of what I love from alien romance and historical romance. I loved the marriage of convenience (kinda) between Artek and Nelly. They were so sweet and patient with each other. I also liked learning more about each brother and their past and distinct personalities.
Lowlights:
I feel like this story misses a certain depth to the relationship between Nelly and Artek. It felt fine but it didn't move me or make me feel something. I also am not sure if I will continue this series because I absolutely hate kidnapping plots.

Highlights:
I loved Wonjin in the 'I married a minotaur' book so I ran to KU to read this as soon as it was published! Wonjin falls in love at first sight while Lara is more in love with the science of it all and oblivious to his feelings.
There were some sweet moments between them that I liked and I enjoyed a new type of dynamic in this series.
Lowlights:
I didn't like how Lara was made to feel guilty at the beginning for not understanding Wonjin when he was not being direct with his feelings in a way she would understand. This book being a novella really took the wind out of the romances sails. Instead of the growth of romance we usually get through communication and understanding, I feel like this story is a bit hollow in comparison. There is a lot of telling and not showing through time-skips and exposition. I feel like there needed to be more depth to the relationship whether through conflict or through more/better characterization of Lara.

The Good
I liked the tone of this book. It gave slow and romantic vibes. I liked the early conversations between Anna and William as they began to connect. I also liked how much love Anna had for those in her charge.
The Bad
I understood Anna but sometimes her doormat personality exhausted me. While I know because of her position there is so much she can do, she does nothing and never stands up for herself most of the book. She accepts every mistreatment and I suppose her willingness to do so is her "kind spirit" but it made me roll my eyes. The middle of the book also drags on with a lot of repetition of events. Anna is forced to go to events and is mistreated. Lucy doesn't behave right in some fashion. Her and William interact. Repeat. I also feel as though it did not have a satisfactory ending. Her relationship with her cousins could have been concluded better. The resolution felt hollow and she was still marrying a racist who did not develop at all. None of the characters we saw consistently in the beginning changed much after her "big" moment. There needed to be more conversations with the characters we saw at the first 60% of the book whose change would be more meaningful in a conversation with Anna than just off-page assumed improvement.
