The last three stories felt like the epilogue I wanted en needed in War Storm. I hoped that Broken Throne would give me some closure and it did. These three stories also built upon each other which made the latter half of the book feel more like a book instead of a short story collection.
I really enjoyed the bits and pieces of worldbuilding and history in Julian's research. Almost a shame that it comes after the last book. However, it does glue the stories together quite nicely.
The whole book was printed in purple ink which is fitting to the series. I also liked that the stories had a small symbol at the bottom. It was a nice touch. I also liked that the short stories had chapters. I don't see it very often but it works much better for me.
Queen Song 3 stars
Although Queen Coriane plays a big role in the background of the Red Queen series, I was not that interested in her life except probably the mystery of her death. I had already read this story back around the time it was first published as an ebook and I think I felt similarly back then. But I will always be a sucker for romance so Coriane meeting Tibe for the first time was pretty cute.
Steel Scars 4 stars
Just like Queen Song, I read Steel Scars a few years ago as an ebook. I think I enjoyed it more this time around because 1) the Julian Research bit before explained codenames, for example, which made the story more understandable whereas it was more confusing before, and 2) I knew more about Farley having read all the books. I did want a bit more scenes of Farley and Shade together as a couple but I will live. The stakes did not feel as high since this story is set just before Red Queen but I enjoyed it nonetheless.
World Behind 3.5 stars
This story is about a Red captain who ferried refugees from Norta and the Lakelands to the Disputed Lands or Montfort. However, the new passenger in this story brings danger with her.
I liked that the short story collection included one that is just set in the world without any characters the reader already knows. I especially enjoyed how this one ended.

This was sad and made me realise the whole Red Queen series is actually quite sad. But as always I love a story that makes me feel emotions.
I also really liked the pages on the future of all the characters. I am so proud of them, especially Kilorn becoming premier of Montfort. And I wonder if Jon wrote it and that this is the future he sees? His note made me gasp one last time. I do feel his character might have benefitted from a slightly different use but eh, I liked it either way.

I really enjoyed this one. It explores Evangeline's life in Montfort after War Storm. I love how she chooses to abdicate in person with her brother and choose to love Elane fully and openly.Fire Light 4 stars

Shade and Maven (and Elara) all buried on Tuck and just the whole scene of Cal visiting was heartbreaking to me.I also really liked the pages on the future of all the characters. Bijna echt door Lisa van Campenhout voelde en las als het kijken naar guilty pleasure shows.
Bijna echt volgt Brenda die aan het begin staat van haar studentenleven. Ze is klaar voor een nieuw begin en vooral om vrienden te maken. Maar haar strategie is om te liegen om vrienden te maken in plaats van haarzelf te zijn. Bij de studentenvereniging valt ze al snel door de mand en Brenda zet 'm op een lopen. In een hotel raakt Brenda aan de praat met wat influencers van haar leeftijd en stelt zich voor als Aurélie Fabulateur uit Parijs en denkt dit wordt het begin van mijn nieuwe leven zoals het altijd al had moeten zijn.
Ik volg de uitgever Blossom Books nu al een tijdje op Instagram. Zo kwam ik Bijna echt tegen en het verhaal intrigeerde mij vrijwel meteen. De setting in Amsterdam waar ik zelf ook heb gestudeerd en dan de webben van leugens die Brenda of moet ik Aurelie zeggen waar zijzelf uiteindelijk ook in verstrikt raakt. Toen ik over de helft was, wilde ik gewoon weten hoe het af zou lopen. Zouden er consequenties volgen voor Brenda of komt ze er gewoon mee weg? En ik kan zeggen dat er wel degelijk consequenties zijn en dat maakt Bijna echt voor mij dan ook een 4 sterren i.p.v. 3 sterren boek.
Van Campenhout heeft goed doordacht wat leugens en identiteitsfraude op deze schaal in zou houden waardoor het vrij geloofwaardig is. Van geldzaken tot basiskennis die verwacht wordt wanneer je vertelt uit Parijs te komen.
Ik raad dit boek aan iedereen die houdt van dit soort guilty pleasures met de drama rondom (in dit geval) influencers in misschien iets overdreven fashion zoals je bij romcoms films ook wellicht kan verwachten.

Havenfall is het tweede 'travelling' boek dat ik dit jaar (en ooit) heb gelezen. Ik blijf het heel leuk vinden om de reacties van anderen te lezen en die van mijzelf te noteren. Helaas vond ik Havenfall minder leuk dan Legend door Marie Lu. Het boek heeft een goed en interessant concept over portalen naar andere Werelden, maar ik was minder fan van de uitvoering.
Maddie Marrow is de hoofdpersoon. Ze is 16 jaar oud en ook biseksueel. Haar oom is herbergier in Havenfall. De herberg waar afgevaardigden van alle Andere Werelden naar toen komen voor de jaarlijkse Vredesconferentie.
Het boek is een fantasie met een zeer aanwezig mysterie. Dit mysterie maakte het een heel leuk travelling book omdat je je theorieën kan uitwisselen. Maar samen met de andere lezers zagen we er snel doorheen en daardoor nam voor mij de spanning af want ik kon het al zien lang voordat Maddie het inzag. Daarom ook 3 sterren voor Havenfall en ik weet niet helemaal zeker of ik het vervolg wil lezen. Nu denk ik van niet.

Our Cancer Year is an autobiographical graphic novel about Harvey Pekar and Joyce Brabner. The book is about the year that Harvey got cancer. It shows the difficult and heartfelt moments of the year. I liked non-fiction graphic novels because they convey emotion in me easier. The art is okay.
Het gedicht The Hill We Climb door Amanda Gorman is prachtig vertaald door dichter, spoken word artist, activist en journalist Zaïre Krieger. Deze tweetalige editie heeft zowel het originele Engelse gedicht als de vertaling. Het originele gedicht heb ik gelezen met de video van de inauguratie aan waar Gorman het gedicht voordraagt. Het is zeker aan te raden om die video (terug) te kijken.
Cloud Atlas was just not for me. It has an interesting concept with its story structure but I did not care for how the characters were connected. Some stories I did enjoy, however, especially Sonmi ~451's story. But overall I just did not vibe with it or "I did not get it". (I'm glad I only spend like one euro on the ebook lol)
