Laat je horen door Lisa Jansen is het ideale instapboek voor mensen die een positief verschil willen maken. Jansen behandelt de basis van verschillende "ismen" zoals feminisme, validisme, racisme, klassisme en veganisme. Een heerlijke opfrisser voor degenen die er al enigszins mee bekend zijn dan wel een goede start voor degenen die er nog niet bekend mee zijn. Aan het eind van ieder hoofdstuk geeft Jansen kijk-, luister-, lees- en doe-tips om meer te leren over de verschillende onderwerpen.

Het boek leest goed weg en ik vond het fijn om te lezen. Ik kan het aanraden aan iedereen die zich wil inzetten tegen onrecht.

WHY WERE THERE NO PLANTS? And why did people smoke? Having plants and not smoking would have been such simple solutions to reserve oxygen and this really annoyed me.

I thought Low was okay but I won't be continuing.

Aan het begin van het jaar stelde ik mijzelf het doel om meer vertalingen te lezen. Ik weet niet precies waarom ik opeens zo graag in de wereld van vertalingen wilde duiken, maar List & Leugens leek (en is!) een ideale kandidaat. Het speelt zich deels af in Ketterdam, een fictieve plaats die Leigh Bardugo op Amsterdam heeft gebaseerd. List & Leugens staat daardoor vol Hollandse namen en andere Nederlandse dingen (bijvoorbeeld hutspot). Dankzij de Netflixserie Shadow & Bone waar een aantal personages van deze boeken ook in voorkomt, was ik nog enthousiaster geworden om hun verhaal te lezen.

In List & Leugens gaat een team naar vijandige gebied om een overval te plegen. Alle personages in dit boek zijn zo leuk en goed vormgegeven. Ze hebben allemaal hun eigen verleden en allemaal hun eigen motivaties en redenen om mee te doen aan de overval. De relaties tussen personages en hoe ze op elkaar inspelen doet zoveel voor het verhaal. De interacties tussen de personages zou een verhaal waar ze alleen maar nacho's eten nog leuk maken. (Ik zou het lezen).

Heist stories zijn op zichzelf al heel leuk. Het plannen. De uitvoering. Zal alles volgens plan gaan? Waarschijnlijk niet. De eventuele improvisatie. Hoe de personages gaandeweg elkaar leren kennen en misschien wel vriendschappen sluiten. Ik houd er van.

Ik kan niet wachten om Kraai & Koninkrijk te lezen en om te zien wat Kaz, Inej, Jesper, Nina, Matthias en Wylan gaan doen. Ik zie mezelf deze serie ook nog wel een (paar) keer herlezen. Al helemaal als het derde boek van De Kraaien ooit op een dag uit zal komen.

It's a fun story -- or as much fun as can be while in the Boiling Rock -- about Suki's imprisonment. It explores her character a bit more and also focuses on her community. And now I want to reread the Boiling Rock episode of Avatar, hihi.

I love Avatar comics. It's like coming home.

In Katara and the Pirate's Silver Katara gets separated from the Gaang and has to find her way back to her friends. While, Aang, Sokka and Toph search for Katara, they stumble across a Fire Nation soldier who believes fake news:

I think it is good that they address it and I liked that the comic did not really offer a solution how to deal with it except that you should talk to those who believe either straight-up lies or just believe different things than you do.

The story is set somewhere in Book Two: Earth of the series after the episode Bitter Work. I have some issues with how Katara was portrayed as "normally sweet and sensitive" and not tough at all. Because yes, Katara is sweet and sensitive but she has also always been tough. Maybe not in the same way as Toph but I also found it important that this series showed that you can be tough in different ways.

Also they argued that it took Katara longer to teach Aang waterbending than it took learning earthbending from Toph. But when Katara started teaching Aang, she wasn't a master herself yet. Meanwhile Toph was a master for years when she taught Aang. So I did not find that a good comparison.

Skyward is an amazing graphic novel about Willa, a young woman in a world where gravity has gone. Or at least there is still some low gravity. The world has adapted to this and the world-building is wonderfully explored through the issues. Willa is fearless but her father is afraid of going outside.

I loved Willa and Edison. They were great characters and there was some great dialogue about what gravity would mean for a person with a disability. Willa's father was also an interesting character.

Overall, the graphic novel has great dialogues and world-building. I really recommend if you are looking for a graphic novel series that is complete. With only 15 issues Skyward is a fun bingeread.

I have some mixed feelings about Windwitch. Maybe it is because The Witchlands is more of a character-driven fantasy series than the plot-driven series I am used to? I am excited to the rest of the series but I will have to see.

I lived for the chapters with Iseult and Aeduan! However, the other perspectives just did not do it for me?

Merik kinda misgendering Cam in most of the book also bothered me. I guess in the ending, he figured it out and I guess Cam never actually told him his pronouns?

On the other hand, I flew through this book and I enjoyed it for what it is but I expected more of it.

I enjoyed Bloodwitch most of all the books in this series so far. I lived for the interactions between Iseult and Aeduan. I'm curious what the rest of the series will bring.

Ik vind het zo jammer dat mijn avonturen met de Kraaien over zijn. Voor nu, ik weet dat Leigh Bardugo ooit in de verre toekomst misschien een derde deel gaat schrijven. Ik kijk er naar uit. Ik zie mezelf deze duologie zeker nog een keer (of een paar keer) herlezen. Heists are fun en deze personages zijn geweldig.
