Beautiful, brutal, and ambiguous Gothic faerie tales. "The Erl-King," "The Lady of the House of Love," and "Wolf-Alice" were my favorites.

Vivid poems about new motherhood that avoid sentimentality and make me never want to give birth. Picked this one up because I read Fennelly’s later book Unmentionables in college and decided to explore more of her work.

I’m glad that I chose the audiobook; Neil’s voice was great company on my walks and commutes and added some emotional context to the pieces I had no emotional attachment to. It also made me realize just how influential he has been on my own writing, not just in broad strokes, but down to little details, certain syntax or turns of phrase.

Brief and encouraging. I would use this as a textbook if I were teaching a poetry workshop.

Smart, class-conscious, feminist body horror. I heard a lot about this book on horror bookstagram, and I wasn’t disappointed.
