Used for the book about technology section of the Read Harder Challenge.

This book was odd in ways I didn't expect. I feel like Darnielle's nonlinear storytelling doesn't always succeed, and that it might have been better had he let it be even less linear and more strange. If you're going to be weird, why go halfway? Really House of Leaves yourself. (Here is where I admit that I started HoL in 2010 and still need to finish it.) That said, his writing has that deeply pleasurable feeling of being well-constructed, like sitting down in a chair that's comfortable, sturdy, and pleasant-looking. I wish some things had been more explicit, but I'm glad I had to work to put some pieces together. My opinion keeps swerving to either extreme of like and dislike, so I'm meeting myself in the middle with three stars.

I wish people talked about that Virginia Woolf essay half as much as they do about the title piece.
