One of the better A Book Apart titles I’ve read. It’s relatively quick and super approachable (even fun) but packed with useful content. Thomas quickly explains each concept, gives supporting examples, and provides specific, actionable tools/methods to apply to your design work. This would be a great design book club read since it’s short AND useful; important for busy people who have lives outside work to live.

3.5 stars, rounding up

I had no idea what to expect with this one. It was awesome. Wonderfully written and easy to read but so full of love and joy and sadness. Definitely my favourite so far this year.

The book was fascinating and gave me high level insight into trees as living beings that I had never read before. Definitely changes your view of trees in nature, farmed trees, and ornaments trees. That said, I found the overuse of anthropomorphism irritating at times. I do think it helps bring empathy and helps lay people understand the concepts, but it was used a lot. Still worth a read if you want to learn more about the natural world and it’s a very accessible book.
