L'autrice racconta la storia di sua madre, la malattia mentale comparsa quando lei e sua sorella erano appena bambine. Ma va anche indietro, alla storia di sua madre stessa bambina, il rapporto con i genitori, i tanti fratelli, la bellezza. L'incesto.
E torna all'età adulta, i deliri, l'orrore.
Stile asciutto, che risuona tantissimo. Alla fine hai il cuore spezzato per tutti.

Hilarious, like I laughed out loud several times, and gulped it in 2 days. Sweet, of course, romantic in Don's way. Love it
Ooooh first book of the year a super sweety romance with pride and prejudice kind of vibe. With a funny, stubborn, witty woman and a stiff stubborn heart of gold under the armor kind of man. Love it
Per questo senso del tempo, del salvare il tempo, per una serie di dettagli che anche senza un vero e proprio plot rendono la storia intensa. Si segue questa voce narrante, tra il lei e il noi, come un documentario delle proprie infanzie, e adolescenze, con un senso costante di nostalgia. Pagine davvero molto belle
E finalmente un Murakami che piace anche a me!! La corsa e la scrittura, la fatica, il carattere, la perseveranza. Bello
Lots of seemingly inconsequential stories (a murder, a videogame everyone is playing, scientists committing suicides, Chinese cultural revolution, a message to space) come together with no missing ends in one simple, not really, explanation. Can't wait to read the sequel and see what's gonna happen to humanity
I can't say I really loved it. It was eye-opening in many ways, and this is a total pro. Had zero idea about Chinese mainlanders, rich Chinese all around China, had no idea Singapore was so rich of food experts!! That makes it the next place I wanna visit for sure.
Taking about the story though, I felt really compelled only in the last 70 pages, had to force myself into read most of the time.
