The narrator was absolutely fantastic. Hilarious and kind of heart breaking this was a brilliant short story.

Sadly I was disappointed by The Ghost Tracks which centres around a young man called Erasmo who has started a paranormal investigation venture to pay for his Grandmother's medical treatment. The narration felt really flat and the pacing (especially at the start) was either too fast or too slow making the whole novel feel super disjointed.
The horror just wasn't there either. Although it had some particularly gory moments they were not scary/creepy and just felt like an obvious attempt to add a shock factor. I also really did not like the direction the plot took. We follow Erasmo's investigation into three cases and I disliked to conclusions to all of them. At one point in the middle it looked like the plot would take a turn for the better but sadly this was not the case.
Moving onto the characters, there was no good female leads AT ALL and all the male side characters were incredibly unlikeable and one dimensional. Something I did particularly like though, was our protagonist Erasmo. He showed some brilliant growth throughout and I felt his heartbreaks along with him.
Thank you to NetGalley and Inkshares for an advanced reader's copy.

"When a woman tells you she is in pain, believe her the first time."
Very informative but read a bit too much like a historical record.

What a wild ride. This was the goriest, most terrifying experience I think I've ever had while reading.
Set in London, two detectives investigate a crime scene in which human bodies appear to have been cooked and eaten. Even worse, (how can it be worse you ask), a devil worshipping cult may be behind it.
Our main characters, DS Jamila Patel and DC Jerry Pardoe were both very different (Patel is Pakistani and Muslim, Jerry is English and an atheist) but they made a fantastic detective duo that was a-lot of fun to follow.
Masterton wrote this brilliantly - The pacing was well done and sections of humorous dialogue between the horror kept it a gripping experience. I loved the masses of Cockney slang 😂.

As this features cannibals, I understand that this might not be for everyone as it makes for some pretty graphic and stomach churning scenes. However if this is something you might like then strap yourself in for a wild ride. Creepy tunnels, kidnappings, brainwashing, rituals and body horror follow in abundance. The best horror thriller I've read in ages.
