Overall, very cute. Very good spice. I only docked stars for a few things but overall a good read

HUGE TRIGGER WARNING THAT WAS NOT GIVEN BY THE FREAKING AUTHOR: SO MUCH SUICIDE TALK AND RELIGIOUS TRAUMA. Which is EXTREMELY triggering for some people just innocently thinking this will be a low stakes cozy book like it was marketed to be!!! Wow. Not how it was marketed AT ALL. This is NOT cozy or magical at all. The love interest was also a major ick. Why did they lie in the marketing so much??

First 200 pages were everything I could have ever asked for… and then the author pulled a twilight and everything got way too sad for no reason other than teenage angst. Which, fine, is he main character had an amazing glow up, but the sacrifice yourself thing at the end made it worse because AGAIN! Communication and less angst people! The whole thing could have been 100 pages shorter but the first half was superb so it evened out to a 3/5 stard for me. The last half was just SO frustrating. I’d going to try book two but if it’s this teen angst-y again, I’m out. I just can’t stand the lack of communication trope.

The first half was a little hard for me to get into, but once I hit the second half I couldn’t put it down. Heartwarming and heartbreaking, I cried more times than I care to admit reading this. It gave me hope for what’s in the beyond and helped shine a light on past grief I’ve endured. Maybe one day it won’t be so sad and will be at peace and at home after all

What happened?!? Fourth Wing was one of the best books I’ve ever read. This…. This was sloppily written, the sex scenes were random, and Violet and Xaden (who I would have died for in book 1) ruined the entire book by being dishonest and secretive with each other. They now have an extremely toxic relationship somehow. And it’s mostly Violets fault, though Xaden sure kept too many secrets he shouldn’t have. Violet was badass but is now whiny and childish. They’re both childish. It was awful. The middle had good parts but ugh… over halfway through I had to find a synopsis so I didn’t have to read anymore. I’ll try to read the third book because the first was impeccable, but Iron Flame was a big fuck up in my book.
