4.5 stars rounded up. I don’t know that there is anything that they write that I won’t enjoy. Im not a poetry kind of person, mostly because I struggle with understanding all the symbolism and what not, but emezi made it so easy to absorb and contemplate. I found myself reading lines over and over again. This book is raw, bold, and full of vulnerability. I loved it and can’t wait to continue to read more from this author

4.5/ 5 stars rounded up! This book was action packed and so amazing. I usually write full reviews of books, but right now I’m going to leave this here, while I process all that I read. Just know, I loved it!

3.5 I read this book two times through to really give it a fair rating. There were things that I missed on the first read though, and it’s short enough to read again.

What I liked: the mix of African history and culture in the future. I also enjoy these kinds of story and I thought that story was interesting.

I liked the social elements added in the story as well.

The world building was pretty good given that it’s a very short book.

What I didn’t like: I wanted more, but it’s a short story so you kind of get what you asked for. I still felt it was a bit under developed for a short story.

It felt rushed and at times disjointed. The flow felt off during certain parts of the book.

Overall I enjoyed it and will continue to read works from this author!
