i loved the beginning, i found the storytelling beautiful. it just dragged so much towards the end.

for some reason i have a strong dislike of half the characters

a little repetitive but just as sweet and moving as the first

the storytelling and characters were vibrant and lush with descriptions, although the twist that comes in six chapters in is a bit of a shock.

A Master of Djinn

the worldbuilding was amazing but the characters were flat and i couldn’t connect with them
adventurous emotional tense slow-paced

apart from being confused the for many parts of them solving puzzles and sometimes the prose too, this was a solid last book that had me tearing up in the last chapter and epilogue.

too slow why did the tournament start 150 pages in

how do you write a romance book where the love interests have no chemistry with each other? instead i got the vague sense of dislike between them, particularly on chani’s side. she came off as jaded and petty, and most of her writing had that bland metaphorical feeling like those 2010s poems. the third act conflict was literally in the last chapter, and they were tipsy/drunk for two thirds of the book. an easy read, but a disappointing one.
