one of the most emotional books i read this year, and perfect for ocean vuong lovers. i only wish they expanded more on the brothers in the later chapters.

a refreshing take on a memoir, and one of those books that felt like was made for me to read at this exact time of my life.

beautiful wintery novel with detailed fairy lore; i don’t however think i’ll be reading the next one just because the plot doesn’t interest me and the pace of this one was agonisingly slow.

it did at times feel like she was mostly name dropping, but i could tell the overall aim was not a memoir but a love letter to the 60s, to artists and most importantly to robert.

my second time reading this and i understand marianne and connell so much more now. the quiet atmosphere of this book is lovely.
super tense throughout part one, then the pace really slowed down during part two; despite this because of a lot of new magic systems being brought in and some confusing fighting sequences, i did get lost in it. i did prefer part one beacuse i felt the plot was more structured with violet attending college, in the second part it did feel a little over the place and tons of stuff was happening. however, i loved xaden and violet working on their relationship, which was accurate to me, they did get together in the middle of a revolution/war. the rest of the characters were fleshed out and developed more from the first book. at first i didn't realise how this was going to be stretched out into five books, but after the ending i realised this would not be able to be wrapped up in one book.
i used to love tessa bailey but it's getting too traditional husband and wife vibes now

i loved a lot of the verbal sparring that occurred, but sometimes it did get tedious. an interesting study on the soul and its corruption.
