This was my first Brandon Sanderson novel and I absolutely loved it. I found the narration to be so incredibly endearing and while I thought the plot predictable, the world and characters were truly unique and enriching.
This was absolutely a more adult fairy tale and I’d give anything for it to be made into a Ghibli film!

I remember loving this book so much as a child and I still do as an adult. The art in children’s books remains something I love and want to study.

A quick, cozy and enjoyable read. This definitely isn’t the romance it was marketed to me as, but I really loved it. I think that what it does focus on (new beginnings, family, and love in the broadest sense) should be celebrated. I would definitely recommend to anyone looking for a low stakes read. I just wish some of the sections were longer.

I can’t leave a star rating on this book. I’ve thought about it a lot and there’s just too much to cover here for a rating to encapsulate. A lot of Bechdel’s story resonated with me personally. This is an incredible example of story telling. How Bechdel weaves past events with more current ones, maps of childhood books to the map of her town. It’s extremely well crafted.

A solid 4 star book for me. I really enjoyed this cute little Christmas time read and the romance between Jack and Ellie was extremely compelling and tear inducing for my little sapphic heart.

Honestly I was mostly bored reading this. I was waiting and waiting for it to grab me and there were select scenes and lines that did but not much outside of that.

I couldn’t really connect to any of the characters and spent too much time grimacing. This book reminded me a lot of No Longer Human, although I think this book embraces the idea of not being ‘normal’ and is a bit more hopeful toward the end.

Part of me wishes this book was a little shorter (some of the passages repeated too much and would have been more impactful if cut down).

I cannot stand how this man writes about women especially his own DAUGHTER.
I firmly believe no woman was on the panel for this Man Booker award. What the hell did I read?

Something in me has been ripped out or pulled away. I want to pour over this book and pick apart the language and structure of it. Truly a well written novella.
5 stars is a feeling and this feeling is horribly empty and yet heartwarming all the same.
The last line broke me. I started sobbing uncontrollably and cried for half an hour after finishing the book. I still feel like crying thinking about it. But damnit Mr Kinsella is her dad now. Ambiguous endings normally upset me but this way I can live believing in my optimistic heart that she went to live with them and knew what love felt like. What a good dad was.

A fun and enjoyable read although I wasn’t as enraptured by this book as I have been with other romances this year. I liked the characters although I still wished that they had a little more meat to them

I think this is a very good book first and foremost. However as time has moved on some of the language is outdated. Furthermore I found the discussion of religion to be overwhelming at times but that is a personal feeling rather than a critique.
