This book is so complicated it needs a register of all the names. And I consulted it more than I want to admit.
But you know, it’s Tolkien’s style and I’m kind of used to it by now.
The book is written really well and I liked the story and the history.
But if you’re looking for a happy story and/or happy ending, don’t read this book.
Túrin (all of Húrin’s family actually) is so doomed, it’s almost impossible to not pity him.

I can’t believe I’ve never read this book before.
I’m never gonna watch the stars in the same way again. And I’m quite thankful for that.

I really liked this book.
It was so refreshing to read about a culture I almost know nothing about.
The story was not that refreshing. It’s more a typical young adult-story, where there is a quest and a romance that neither of the persons saw coming. But you know, I’m still not tired of this. I still like this kind of story.

There are a LOT of Japanese words throughout the story which I didn’t always understand. And I found out way too late there was a word list at the end. But that was my mistake.

Wow.
I ordered the second book the moment I finished this one and I hope to receive and read it asap.

It doesn’t happen very often that I finish a book in one sitting.
This book was so good. You never knew what was true and what wasn’t. Plottwist after plottwist, I loved it.

Wauw.
Dit boek is echt goed.
Telkens als je denkt iets te weten, verschijnt er een nieuwe wending.
Het boek is ook erg goed geschreven, het leest als een trein.

This book is written beautifully. There are a TON of metaphors and sometimes I feel like the use of words was not natural. You can almost feel that the writer had to look up words he wanted to use, to make them “fit”.
There is also a lot of wisdom in there. I think it takes multiple reads to understand what’s all in there.
So for now, I give 4 stars.

I’m a bit disappointed by this book. I read so much good stuff about it. Maybe my expectations were too high.

The story was a bit long-winded it started slowly. It was also a very typical young-adult, where there is a “forbidden love” between two sworn enemies. And then there was this love-triangle... It was all a bit too obvious.
There were a couple of “plottwists”, but they were quite predictable. I knew Dante was a little shit from the beginning.

Only near the end it became better, when the enemies met each-other and got in a fight.

I love Cate Tiernan’s writing so much. Every book of hers reads so fluently and you can’t put it down.
I am rooting for Nastasya (or Lilja) and Reyn. And I want to know what’s going to happen!

The storyline was a little bit predictable and reminded me a LOT of the plot of some books of the Wicca (Sweep) series.
But it read really fluently and I live Cate Tiernan’s writing style.
The ending of this book seemed to me as a final ending. I’m curious and also a bit “scared” about the third book. I hope it’s not going to disappoint.
