“You love . . . me?” Briar’s eyes blazed. “I think I do. If this is what love feels like. Wanting you safe. Happy. Here.” Briar’s hands tightened on Isa’s arms. “Always here. Never hurt. Never scared.”

I have now read/listened to this book four times and I thought for sure I had already reviewed it, but apparently not. I really, really love this book so much. There’s something really magical about it. It’s hot, the MCs have great chemistry, it’s got some past and present trauma, autism rep, hot spicy scenes, you name it. This was also my first ever Zile Elliven book, and his writing is just thoroughly enjoyable. I’m never bored while reading a Zile book, and the characters are the most lovable lil dudes.

“Um. Are you kidnapping me? Because I have a test tomorrow.” “Not kidnapping,” Briar started the engine and pulled away from the curb. “Relocating.”

I definitely recommend it if the tropes sound fun and you’re good with the content warnings. More people should read it. Oh, and Zachary Zaba did a great job with the audiobook.

Briar reached for the bottom of his shirt and pulled it over his head, and Isa could have sworn a choir of naughty angels burst into song.

By the time the sun came up, Briar was lying on the floor with a notepad on his face, listening to birds greeting each other. Cheerful little bastards.

If Isa had been a popsicle, he would have melted into a puddle on the floor. As it was, he was finding it very difficult to not sway forward and burrow into Briar like he was Isa’s personal teddy bear. He needed to get a handle on himself ASAP.

He'd tried to talk to Briar about it, tried to explain that he really wasn’t available for dating, but there was a problem with that. Every time Isa talked to Briar, Briar would talk back. And every time Isa heard Briar’s deep, sultry voice, his brain cut off and his libido kicked into overdrive.

I’d never fallen in love before. Of course, the first time I did had to be with a man who could never love me back.

I have lost count of how many times I’ve read or listened to this book, but I still somehow hadn’t reviewed it. This is definitely my favorite book by the author. I love Jack so much, and even though Max isn’t perfect, I love him too. This book is perfect if you want to read a bisexual awakening that doesn’t go 100% smoothly, but isn’t a complete dumpster fire either. Max is confused, upset and dealing with guilt and grief, but he comes around and is so good to Jack (eventually).

I heard people open speeches with it’s both an honor and a privilege. That defined my time with Max and Emma these last few years.

I love how these characters are so obviously best friends. In a lot of BFF to lovers books you’re just told that they’re besties, but in this one you can tell that they know each other well. It’s also just nice to read a book with a widower where the dead wife isn’t vilified in any way, but also doesn’t take over the story or feel like she’s a part of the relationship. All three of them were best friends, and it took a long time after she passed for things to change.

I wouldn’t have minded if baseball was a bigger part of the book, but most of it takes place in the off-season, so it makes sense as is.

This book also has the most emotional blowjob ever and I cried buckets the first time I read it, lol. The entire story is a good mix of funny banter, hot first times, vulnerable characters and navigating new situations with a child.

Max’s kid, Emma, is 9 years old and definitely full of sass. Seeing her relationship with ‘Uncle Jack’ is the sweetest damn thing.

You haven’t seen anything until you’ve seen a three-year-old wrap a six-foot-four baseball player around her little finger. God, Lainey and I used to crack up watching the two of them together. It was like Emma thought he was a giant puppy we brought home for her to keep.

She was fascinated by the very thing everyone else saw in me and feared. How was any man supposed to resist that?

I kinda annoyed myself with trying to start this review a couple times because I ended up saying something silly like ‘the feminism left my body while reading this’, because it’s a little borderline taboo, a little dark, and the usual motorcycle club Misogyny Lite, but then I also don’t think it’s *that* bad. I actually straight up fucking love this book and there’s no need to feel any shame about it. I’ve read 100 pages straight of brothers banging, ffs. I’ve read and listened to it so many times, as I’m just super weak for a psychopath being super protective and obsessive over their love interest. And the way he picks her up and carries her on his hip to keep her safe or soothe her when she’s upset? I adore it.

Then Priest was there, hauling me up from my chair into his arms, perching me on one hip as he crouched to view the horror beneath my desk.

The stereotypes are heavy in this, but I don’t mind it. She’s tiny, blonde and cute. She wears pink and goes to church every week. She can also take it like a champ (against a wall or in a cemetery, she’s not picky). She’s obsessed with darkness and loves some pain. He’s the dark, broody killer and will do anything to protect her.

I think I like bad boys.” “You do not.” “Yes, I do.” I thought of Priest, and the way he’d slit Brett’s throat without remorse. The way he’d done it with quiet, loyal pride like a cat killing a bird for its master. How could I resist a man who was so willing to kill for me? “Well, stop it,” Lou snapped.

It’s so good, lol. One I relisten to again and again, and will keep doing it. Definitely helps that it’s suspenseful with an interesting serial killer case with a religious element. Good stuff.

I didn’t interfere. I’d seen alpha men operate enough to know they needed space to piss on the things they felt were theirs. It made them easier to deal with once it was done.

I was a good Christian girl with an obsession for those who sinned.

I watched, still mired in the aftershock of that earth-shattering kiss, as he wiped that cruel, lovely mouth with the back of his hand. As if he needed to be rid of my taste from his lips. Boy, that hurt.

This book was sweet but ultimately very forgettable to me. I kept forgetting what had happened even though I finished the audiobook quickly, with few breaks. I couldn’t even remember if they’d had sex (I don’t think there was any penetration at least). It had a couple funny moments with a cat, but that was sadly also nearly the most interesting part. I kept wanting it to go deeper in with everything that happened. Instead it stayed surface level. Which is fine sometimes, but not what I was in the mood for. One of the MCs also mentions recovering from an eating disorder (early in the book) and how he struggles with eating in front of other people, only for this never to be mentioned again and not be a problem at all. I don’t know why that annoyed me so much.

The audiobook had some weird chapter intro music, but only on some of the chapters. It mostly seemed like a mistake. There was also *actual* singing, which made me cringe so hard I had to skip forward to avoid it. Why not just read out the lyrics like every other narrator does. *shudders*

Anyway. It was completely okay.

“I believe in you. In us. Regardless of what happens, you will always be the best partner I’ve ever had. You’ll always be the hardest working person I’ve ever known. There will only ever be you.”

I just mentioned in another review that I don’t like enemies to lovers, which is true. This one happens to be ’turns-out-we-weren’t-actually-real-enemies to best friends to lovers’, and is the most delicious slow burn, tension-filled romance with a believable relationship development ever. Definitely one of my favorite MF romances.

The FMC works through a lot of personal issues during the story. Balancing a career in professional sports with family and friends, realizing you have a strained relationship with family, the guilt of putting a sport and a career first, etc. It’s really fucking emotional and impactful, and is one of the things that makes me love the book so much. I love Jasmine’s character so much.

Love to me was honesty. Being real. Knowing someone’s best and worst. Love was a push that said someone believed in you when you didn’t.

The MMC isn’t perfect, but it’s so much fun to go from ‘this guy is such a dickhead' to ‘omg he’s the cutest professional troll ever’ at the same time as the FMC slowly realizes it as well. These guys are absolutely perfect for each other, and a story I’ve read and listened to lots, and definitely will again.

“I love you so much I spend all day with you, and it still isn’t enough for me,” he kept going.

Mariana will probably keep on being my favorite M/F author for a long time.

Sigh. Roan Parrish is so fucking talented, it’s a little silly. Their writing is just a delight. I’ve given 5 stars to every Roan Parrish book I’ve read so far and this one was no exception.

Charlie is such a sweet, big teddy bear. He sacrificed *so* much in his life to give everything he could to his brother, and I just wanted to give this vulnerable marshmallow a big-ass hug.

This book was just a charming, relatively straight forward love story, and I loved it. I so very highly recommend it, and if you can get the audiobook narrated by Greg Boudreaux, even better.

Another thing I loved was the representation of a sex life that isn’t just ‘

Well, folks. It's official. I know I'm late to the party on this one (I have no excuse), but I now have a new favorite N.R. Walker book. I didn't think that would happen, considering how much I love On Davis Row. I'm going to think about Maddox and Roscoe a lot the next few days, and I'm already excited about listening to the audiobook.

I think the portrayal of Maddox's anxiety and panic disorder was really well done. I've had some personal experience with those things, and I appreciate that it wasn't completely over the top for drama's sake, but it wasn't underplayed either. It's a difficult line to straddle, but Miss Walker did it perfectly, in my humble opinion. Of course, everyone's experience with mental health problems is different.

One of my favorite things to read about in books is just solid, loving relationships with LOTS of casual intimacy, touch and cuddles, which was a big part of this one. As many others, I'm a huge fan of some solid spice in my books, but I enjoy it more if there's some sweetness for balance.

Maddox finished his sandwich and pulled his chair closer to mine, put his leg over my thigh, and when that wasn’t close enough, apparently, he sat on my lap. Just curled up, with his arms around my neck, his head on my shoulder.

It's been a long time since I last read a book with single POV, and I really enjoyed it. I especially liked how it wasn't Maddox's POV. The author did well in not leaving us guessing on how he felt and his reasons for doing so. It was showed, not told, which is impressive.

OH! I nearly forgot. This author writes the best and most satisfying epilogues, and Code Red is no exception. She never leaves a girl hangin'.

I'm now debating how long I need to wait before it's socially acceptable to start the audiobook, considering I finished reading about 10 minutes ago.

Well, I don’t think I could ever choose a favorite between Code Red and Code Blue, so I’m just going to say that I absolutely adored both books and every single main character. Steve and Jeremy wormed their way into my heart and are probably going to stay there a good long while. I only have one question: what would their couple name be? Maddox and Roscoe are Moscoe. Steve and Jeremy = ?

I’m going to buy physical copies of these books because they’re that good (and who am I kidding, they’re frickin’ beautiful books). My mind has been beyond preoccupied with exams and other life stuff, and I still devoured these books in no time. I’m only sad it’s over.

I want a Steve in my life btw. Let’s you smash your house to pieces when your angry and cleans it up. Can cook. Carries you around like a toddler and gives piggyback rides. Can f*ck people up if necessary, both respectfully and disrespectfully. Gives 4 orgasms a day. Everyone needs a ‘Steeeeeve’, as Jeremy so affectionately calls him.

I probably should have woken him up and told him to go to bed. I didn’t do that either. I wanted to savor this moment forever. That was creepy of me, I realized, because he was asleep. But god, I’d loved this man for years and he fell asleep with his head in my lap. I wasn’t cutting that short for anyone.

Hope was a dangerous, disquiet thing, but he thought perhaps he liked it.

This book is genuinely an absolute mess, but I think I loved it? I didn’t know what was happening a lot of the time, but it was also completely captivating. The plot and characters were highly confusing, yet super intriguing. This book is likely one of the few that should be read instead of listened to if possible, as I imagine it would be easier to keep track that way. The narration wasn’t that great either, but the audiobook did make it possible for me to finish it really fast.

A couple friends told me about how I would be absolutely confused and most likely think ‘wtf’, but that I wouldn’t be able to stop thinking about it by the end, and they were completely right. I can’t wait to continue with book 2.

I have nothing remotely intelligent to say about it lol. Just one of those books with characters who draw you in, in spite of sometimes dodgy writing and plot. Couldn’t put it down. If it wasn’t for the ‘warnings’ about how weird it is, I’d probably give it 3 stars, but yeah. It’s got that extra something something. By the end of the final book I’m sure I’ll give it 5 stars, lol.

“Nothing would happen. We would have a different adventure to go on. You are my best friend, my love, my playmate and my teammate. You’ll have a team with me wherever we are, with whatever we are playing.”

Ugh, I love this book so much. It was the first Mariana Zapata book I ever read and it’s still my favorite. Reiner is a grumpy asshole, literally no doubt about it, but you somehow end up loving him so much anyway. He might be older, the best soccer player in the world, a coach and literally everyone falls at his feet, except for Sal, the FMC. This lady is badass. The MMC was her childhood idol and crush, yet she doesn’t take any shit from him at all and won’t let him walk all over her.

I love slow burns, and Mariana is the best at it. The MCs relationship goes through so many stages and they’re all lovely and believable. The notoriously dickish MMC also says and does the swooniest things and their banter is *chef’s kiss*
