Summer Kitchen by E.J. Russell

Book safety, content warnings, and tropes down below.

This book was sweet but ultimately very forgettable to me. I kept forgetting what had happened even though I finished the audiobook quickly, with few breaks. I couldn’t even remember if they’d had sex (I don’t think there was any penetration at least). It had a couple funny moments with a cat, but that was sadly also nearly the most interesting part. I kept wanting it to go deeper in with everything that happened. Instead it stayed surface level. Which is fine sometimes, but not what I was in the mood for. One of the MCs also mentions recovering from an eating disorder (early in the book) and how he struggles with eating in front of other people, only for this never to be mentioned again and not be a problem at all. I don’t know why that annoyed me so much.

The audiobook had some weird chapter intro music, but only on some of the chapters. It mostly seemed like a mistake. There was also *actual* singing, which made me cringe so hard I had to skip forward to avoid it. Why not just read out the lyrics like every other narrator does. *shudders*

Anyway. It was completely okay.
