This review is sort of bittersweet, because I really did enjoy this book loads, but I won’t be able to read the rest of the books because of some possibly triggering content (to me) in the coming books. However, I got an audio ARC, so a review there shall be, lol. It’s a fantastic first book, and even though there’s not a whole helluva lot actually happening, the slow building of a friendship between the MCs was great and felt sort of magical. The pacing and flow in the story was also top notch.

Silas is 100% a prickly broken boy dealing with trauma, and even though he does his best to push Ben away, Ben is persistent, and a great friend to Silas whether he wants it or not. I would still very much recommend you read at least the first book. I obviously can’t speak about the rest of the series as I won’t be able to read them, but Nikole Knight is a brilliant writer, and book 1 was quite special.

I thought the new-to-me narrator, Nick Newport, gave a great performance with this book, and would definitely recommend that format if you can.

Roman is another one of those characters I just want to wrap up, hug tight and keep safe for all eternity. He can live in my closet with all the other characters that make me cry every time they utter a single sentence or think about how they'll just have to live a shitty situation because there's nothing better on the horizon for them. Those characters have a direct line to my tear ducts, and they yank on it fucking constantly. I know I cry easily, but damn. He's just the sweetest muscled teddy bear that goes absolutely feral when cornered, and has a habit of biting while angry, stressed, horny or happy. I think we can just say 'he has a habit of biting' after laying it out like that, lol. I still love him though. And I super enjoyed his interactions with Tubs (I think that's the dogs name, anyway), as well as Becks and Dallas. Their blossoming friendship and their acceptance of Roman and everything about him was some of my favorite bits.

“He saw it as soon as he looked at me. I let people do whatever they want to me while I just kneel down and take it. It doesn’t matter that I have a strong body when it’s my head that’s weak.”

This friend group is amazing. None of them have all that much when it comes to material possessions, they're involved in gangs, they live in falling-apart-at-the-seams trailers, they steal and vandalize cars, but they are nothing if not loyal to each other. There's just a blanket acceptance of all that they are. It just goes to show that it doesn't cost a damn thing to be nice, accepting and tolerant of others. it did take me a little while to connect with Scout, but we got there in the end. Even though he's new to the D/s lifestyle and made some (quite serious) mistakes along the way in the scenes with Roman, he wasn't a bad person at all. Just young and inexperienced.

I'm constantly going back and forth with my thoughts on the D/s dynamic with Roman and Scout in this book. One of my thoughts is that these boys shouldn't partake in a power exchange relationship at all. Lack of aftercare, the submissive pushing himself way past the threshold for safewording, etc. If this was done because of a lack of knowledge or understanding by the author, this would either be a DNF or extremely low rating, but I know it's done this way on purpose. These boys are inexperienced, and they make mistakes. That's the point. It's just highly uncomfortable reading it at times. Their D/s relationship, especially the sexual parts, is executed badly, but written well. I honestly confuse myself trying to explain it all. On the other side of this highly confusing coin, I do appreciate reading about a BDSM relationship that isn't based in some rich-person-only kink club. Kink should be for everyone.

I really enjoyed the underlying theme of being willing to do just about anything in order to better your situation. Scout had a really tragic backstory, but he was determined to make it a better one, and he wanted to take his friends with him as he did. Maybe he wasn't quite polished on the outside, but his soul was without a doubt really pure and sweet.

In fear of ending up with a several pages long review, I'll end with this: I love D/s dynamics that fall outside of the 'norm' in terms of perception. In this case, the size difference is reversed from what we often see in these kinds of relationships. Roman is a submissive, as well as being a large man. Scout is a dom, and he's smaller than Roman. Love it. Oh, and I loved the audiobook. Highly recommend.

Asher ogled Harry’s bare chest with a heated appreciation. “Maybe breakfast can wait . . .” Then he made a pained face like he couldn’t decide. “No, let’s do gifts and breakfast first. Then you can spend the rest of the day doing delightfully obscene things to my body.” He clapped his hands. “I insist.”

Out of the two couples from Tallowwood and The Kite, August and Jake are my favorite. It was really nice to see all of them again, but I have to admit I was a bit disappointed by this. I was hoping for more time with Jake and August, and just more couple-y bliss, I suppose. Maybe even for the guys to become friends somehow. Maybe I had the wrong expectations, because whatever I expected, this wasn’t it. Asher and Harry were hot and sweet as always. There wasn’t anything wrong with it, really, I just didn’t understand what the point of it was after finishing, but then I found out about a coming sequel to The Kite, and then it made sense. It definitely feels like a setup for that. I wish the novella stood more on its own to give is a follow-up on the couples.

“While I’m not a fan of the dirt you bring in on my nice clean floors, I am a fan of you being all dirty and sweaty.” Harry smirked at him, then very deliberately lifted the hem of his shirt and wiped his face, giving Asher a view of his abs and chest. Tit for tat.

Everything I’ve done for the last five years has been to keep these men safe and alive. I can play the part of a subservient and placid Bond today if it helps to keep them safe. Someday I’m sure they’ll all appreciate it. Just not today.

This book, just like the first one, is fabulous. The fantasy/paranormal aspects really starts kicking in, and we get to see more about the characters’ powers, and we start to get to know them all a little better. Oleander’s motives and abilities start coming to light, and the dynamics between her and (most) of her bond mates evolve.

It’s also fun to see the relationhips between the guys in the harem changing. It’s difficult to distinguish the books from each other as it all reads as one big story, so this will be light on specifics. Oleander and Sage’s relationship continues to shine. I want a friendship like they have, because it’s amazing. Oleander’s badassness also shines through even more in this, and I can’t even explain the joy I get from big ‘tough’ guys being terrified of her. Delicious.

We get to meet Oleander’s ‘bond’ properly as well, and man, that bond is a jealous, bloodthirsty and possessive b*tch, lol. A lot of fun.

I so highly recommend this series.

I feel like him confirming that Nox has issues is like confirming the sky is blue or that the sun will rise in the morning. Obvious and sort of stupid to even say.

I try to stop but my bond is not having it. Not at all. If people are here after our bonds, then they’ll pay. They’ll all have to learn what we’re capable of. I feel my eyes shift and it’s game over for any chances of rational thought. “Fuck. Call Shore and tell him we’re coming in hot,” Atlas snaps […].

Better to be hated and alive, better to be in pain than a murderer, better to be alone and safe.

This is my third time reading/listening to this series, so even though this is book one, my review will 100% be influenced by what I know happens later on. The ‘enemies’ part of enemies to lovers needs to be taken seriously when it comes to this series. Most of them are pretty awful to each other. There is *a lot* of hurt, lies and mistrust that needs to be processed, apologized for, and healed from, and very little of that happens in book 1. It’s a very, very slow burn, with absolutely delicious character and relationship development for everyone involved through the entire series.

The room is so loud that I almost miss it when he mumbles, “Fuck, I wish you’d never come back.”

The plot is amazing as well, and when I first read these books I couldn’t put them down. All of the books read like one big story (with cliffhangers), so you’ll definitely need to continue right away. I also love how the reader is kept in the dark a lot as well. We don’t get the entire story right away. We have to find out about a lot of stuff right alongside the other characters.

“Motherfucking, cocksucking, cunt of a thing, I will honestly carve the skin off of that miserable—” “Jesus Christ, you’ve got a mouth on you for such a little thing.”

Oleander is a fabulous FMC. She is a badass and doesn’t take shit from the men in her bond group, no matter their age or status. I also adore that the author has given her an amazing female best friend. Oleander puts her best friend above all else pretty much always, and I adore their dynamic. Their friendship is the main ‘relationship’ in book 1, and continues to play a big part in the other books. That doesn’t mean there’s a shortage of catty and awful women in the series, as it’s pretty heavy on the OW drama at times. However, it’s balanced out, and it doesn’t feel like the author is just shitting on women.

If you know me, you’ll know I have a massive aversion to ‘other woman/man drama’, and it is difficult in this series. It’s mostly contained to book 1 and a little of book 2. It helps that it’s a genuine enemies to lovers. No one is in a relationship yet, and there is no details of anyone being with other people on page. It is also mostly contained to one of the MMCs. There’s a lot of jealousy throughout. But, if I can deal, then you likely can as well.

Whew, this was a lot more than I wanted to write, lol. I love this series a lot.

I don’t have a lot to say that I haven’t already said in my reviews of book 1 and 2. However, the action and violence is really picking up in this, and I absolutely love it. We also get much more of Oleander’s bond, which is awesome. Those scenes and chapters are my favorite without a doubt. It is so bloodthirsty and cold. Absolutely *chefs kiss*. The harem keeps growing and evolving, and it’s a lot of fun to see how they all navigate it, coming to terms with their anger and learning about secrets, dealing with guilt, etc. Ugh. Ait, I’ve pretty much covered most of my thoughts in the previous reviews, so this will be short and sweet.

In this book the trust has built up quite a bit in the entire bond group, and we’re starting to see how it could be if everything was going well and their world wasn’t a shit show. We also learn more about the bad guys and wtf they’re doing. Lots of action and angst in this one as well. Love it.

There's also a part of me that thinks that maybe if things had gone a little differently in my life, she might have been perfect for me too. Except, the hole in my chest that she should have fit perfectly into was destroyed, blown apart, taken to with a pair of scissors until there was no one on this earth that could take up the space there.

North might be all about keeping me happy and child-free, but his bond has other plans. Note to self: keep North’s bond away from my prescription.

Something I will never get used to, even with having five male Bonds, is the ease with which men happily wander into an occupied bathroom and pee in front of an audience. I can't even comfortably pee with them in the next room over, half the time, without psyching myself up for it.

Recovery isn't about wiping the board clean. Recovery is learning how to function around all of the scars and open wounds inside of us.

A long series like this pretty blends together eventually, so each review is lighter and lighter on the details, lol. What I do know and remember, is that things really evolve with Nox in this book. His trauma is unfathomable, and we finally understand the extent of his issues and *why* he has them. He hasn’t been the most sympathetic character in the series (actually just a real fuckin douchebag), but the hints along the way has helped. It’s fully explored in this book, and it finally feels like the harem is complete, and they can all turn all their attention to the external threat.

I want to learn how someone like Nox Draven can be loved and accepted, and then I want to spend the rest of my life doing it.

It’s still really, really good.

‘[…] If I burn out, I’ll do something else. But I won’t do this job by stripping the victims of their humanity. It was stolen by their killer. I won’t do the same to them, or to myself.’

Karen Rose does romantic suspense so damn well. Even when you get the bad guy’s POV, you’ll still be left questioning things until the very end when everything gets wrapped up in the most satisfying way. This author’s ability to craft an interesting story with tons of factors and connecting timelines is amazing. This book, as a lot of hers tend to do, only spans a few days. However, it’s written in a way where it feels like the story spans way longer. I really enjoy how it doesn’t really skip any of the steps. You get the entire case from start to finish, and we get to see it from all of the POVs that matter.

It’s definitely a book that’s heavier on the plot and suspense than the romance, but sometimes that’s exactly what I want. There’s still romance and spice, but it feels more like the cherry on top of an amazing crime-solving novel, and it just adds that little extra something something. I really struggle with reading something without any romance at all, but I don’t always want it to be the main focus either. Deacon and Faith have amazing chemistry that adds this other element and makes it a great book and not just an entertaining crime.

I still love Say You’re Sorry by Karen Rose the most, but this one is pretty great too.

This was really good and I finished it relatively fast, considering my recent bout of slumpiness. If you like your omegaverse a little darker and grittier, then this one is fab. This series has an overarching plot, but I’ve only read this one and quickly got the hang of everything going on. I can tell the author has done a great job with the world building and it really did feel like reading urban fantasy x omegaverse. The concept with the districts and highly oppressive governments was a really fresh and interesting take on omegaverse, and I’m totally here for it. I’m sure I would’ve enjoyed it even more if I had read the previous books, but honestly I’m always going to be a little chaotic when it comes to reading stuff out of order.

Again, I think Jacey Davis handles trauma really well. The topics are always dealt with in a respectful yet real way. There’s never any ‘magic dick’ action, and the characters take time to heal. No one is magically cured by the end of the epilogue either, but the books always ends in a hopeful way where you can see how the characters have improved. I really do love that aspect of it. Understandably after all the trauma both MCs have suffered, the book isn’t very spicy, but it fits the story so well. I enjoyed seeing the intimacy and trust between the characters slowly increasing, and the joy they both got from their bodies and minds healing.

I never thought I’d get emotional from an erection, but here I was, near tears because my omega, my little mouse, was halfway hard and grinning at me.

Arden and Bastion were the sweetest and definitely made for each other. The touch of kink really brought it home for me. I don’t get tired of daddy kink, lol. There’s some D/l stuff with (mild) age regression, but to me it reads like a coping mechanism and just a way for Bastion to escape for a while. There’s no age play in the usual sense. All the action and suspenseful moments made the book even better for me.
