The story was good, but I just felt the characters were a little more flatter than in the previous novels. I felt like this story was trying to be a dark romance without crossing that line in order to cater to a wider audience, and I think that's where it fell short for me.
Would I recommend it? Yes, but mainly because iflt is the final book in the series, if it was book one, then probably not.

I felt the narrator's give was appealling. She really brought the characters to life. I felt that her voice was a perfect match for the novel. Even though there was only one narrator, it was clear to identifying the characters.
The pace of the plot was in keeping with what I would expect from a cosy romance novel.
I admit I really struggled with the content as the story does differ some dark themes in great detail and three fact that it is loosely based on historic events really impacts on the readers emotions as the journey through the story.
Graphic: Addiction, Animal cruelty, Animal death, Body horror, Bullying, Child abuse, Cursing, Death, Drug abuse, Drug use, Emotional abuse, Genocide, Gore, Mental illness, Misogyny, Torture, Violence, Forced institutionalization, Xenophobia, Blood, Kidnapping, Grief, Death of parent, Murder, Fire/Fire injury, Colonisation, War, Injury/Injury detail, Classism
The themes of the book were much darker than Fourth Wing, but I felt that the storyline was a natural extension and is a good build-up to book number 3.
The ending was really sad for me, and I am really eager to find out what happens with Xaden.
Xaden felt a little more flat in this story than in Fourth Wing, but it didn't detract that much from the story as he wasn't as prominent for the most part.

I don't even know where to start. I loved this book so much!!!
The story focuses on four teenagers who have no idea of their magical abilities. They are thrown together as a team to fight evil. The banter between the characters was fun, one of my top takeaways.
There's a strong theme of mental health throughout the book, and having a 10+ year background working in this field, I really appreciated how well it was written. The story alludes to the main character experiencing psychosis and I think it was an accurate portrayal of an individual's journey and didn't purposely paint the character or the illness in a negative or villainous light.
I loved how the chapters were set out with different definitions relevant to each chapter, and the diversity sang to my soul.
I was not expecting the plot twists, which just added yo my enjoyment.
This book had me eating uo every word and I want more!!
The only thing I would have wanted is a pronunciation guide, which I feel any book with unique names should have
A thoroughly enjoyable read suited to an audience that loves an action-packed plot line. As I was reading it, the scenes were playing out like a movie in my mind.
Moderate: Mental illness
Minor: Animal cruelty, Bullying, Death, Violence, Blood, Death of parent
The plot twist at the end was unexpected, and my heart broke for the FMC.
But the build-up I thought was good.
My only frustration was that I struggled to keep track of some of the less prominent characters that turned out to be significant in the end. This somewhat interrupted the flow of the story for me.

I liked the way it started, and though it was gory in quite a few places, the book didn't really ever lose humour.
Plot: 5/5

Book boyfriend: 4/5 despite being an unaliver...what can I say? Must be that Irish charm.
I liked how the story was told from 3 perspectives of the same ancscetral line, and all culminated in the end.
I think the political undertones of this book are relevant in today's society, which is a sad truth.
Overall, I enjoyed the plot and the character development. However, at times, it did feel tedious, and I found myself wanting scan over parts in order to get to through the story.
I would recommend it, as overall, it was an enjoyable read.
Graphic: Misogyny, Rape, Sexism, Toxic relationship, Religious bigotry, Car accident, Abortion, Pregnancy
Minor: Terminal illness, Colonisation
Though Nesta comes off as a despicable person in the previous books, you really get the chance to see first hand and to walk her journey alongside her.
Even though it is a long read. I felt every scene relevant to the plot and provided valuable insigh into the characters' innermost thoughts and rationale for their actions.
I also, I thought Rhys was an ideal book boyfriend, but Cassian and his dirty mouth had swooped in with that impressive wingspan and taken the top spot.

This spin-off story is just as enjoyable as the main L.O.R.D.S series.
The enemies to lovers vibe is intense (in the BEST way) and the characters as the perfect blend of unhinged but lovable.
The plot twists came so hard (excuse the pun). I swear I was having hot flushes whilst reading.
