For the Crown is the story of Selena, a human princess in line for the throne. However, her path is not guaranteed and she must find a Drengr mate to inherit the crown. The solution? Lena meets with 27 eligible Drengr bachelors also hoping to find their mate. For the Crown is a classic fantasy tale that puts a unique spin on the soulmate trope- plus dragon shapeshifters! There was clear character growth throughout and well-developed supporting characters. I was excited to see a subversion of well-known tropes and solid world-building. While I appreciated how well the romance was constructed, I didn’t feel overly invested in it. For me, the world and quest for the crown was more gripping and engaging. I would love to know more about the mental bond between Drengr and see what happens next for supporting characters, such as Evelyn and Daryn. I will definitely be waiting for the next installment in this world! Thank you to Melissa Mitchell and Netgalley for a free ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Crowned A Traitor follows Klara, a daughter of Lucifer. Klara has no wish to rule over Hell, but she’ll need to fight for her freedom. Three scheming queens, souls of the dead, and hellhounds stand in her way. The introduction of this book really hooked me, but the pacing faltered a bit after the strong start. That said, there were many great moments and I really enjoyed my time in this world. With the number of supporting characters, it was hard to feel invested in anyone else since the spotlight is firmly on Klara. Klara is an incredibly strong and determined character, who is very fun to watch. The world-building is imaginative and unique, though at times it felt hastily explained. Filled with plot twists and narrow escapes, Crowned A Traitor will absolutely keep you guessing. If you like fantasy with strong-willed heroines who know what they want and will stop at nothing to get it- check this out! Crowned A Traitor is out now! Upon reading the first few pages of Skyhunter, I was immediately enveloped in Marie Lu’s magnificent world-building. I felt fascinated by this brief glimpse into a dangerous dystopian world. One of my favorite things about Marie Lu’s writing is the instant bond she creates between reader and character. In only a few pages, I already felt connected to Talin and excited to see what happens next! The inclusion of sign language was great, I loved how it is an integral part of survival in this world. I look forward to seeing how Talin finds her way in a world that seems determined to break her! Skyhunter releases on September 29, 2020. Thank you to Marie Lu, Roaring Press, and Netgalley for a free extended excerpt in exchange for honest feedback.

All These Monsters was a fast-paced and delightful read. I was completely hooked from the beginning! Clara is a fierce and passionate character, who is forced into an impossible situation when her abusive father returns home. Seeking to escape, Clara signs up to fight scrabs. Scrabs are violent monsters that mysteriously appear from belowground and attack humans. As she gets to know the group of fighters, it is clear that the scrabs are not the only monsters she must battle.

One of my favorite parts about this book is the intelligent exploration of abusive relationships, including the subtle ways this can occur, and gaslighting. If you love monster-fighting squads, intense fight scenes, and lovable characters, check out All These Monsters! I can’t wait to find out more about the scrabs and how Clara’s adventures continue!!

I was incredibly excited to receive an ARC of The Bone Shard Daughter! I savored every word. With beautiful world-building, we follow several characters as they make their way through a perilous world. Lin is the Emperor’s daughter, struggling to regain her memories after an illness. Jovis is a smuggler, desperately searching for his lost love. And Ranami and Phalue are two women in love, with politics and different ideologies drawing lines between them. As secrets are revealed, the plot thickens, and all characters are faced with difficult choices. I love that all of the characters had such strong motivations and goals!

The world-building was expansive and I’m looking forward to purchasing a hard copy so I can check out the map! The system of islands and how they move was unique and mysterious. The magic system using bone shards was very creative and I can’t wait to learn more about it! I also love an animal companion and Mephi was incredibly cute. I enjoyed that Ranami and Phalue’s romance was completely accepted and the depiction of it felt very realistic. Seeing that casual inclusivity, especially in fantasy, is really special. The pacing is a bit of a slow-burn, until the end where all the plot threads pull together. The ending will definitely leave you already wanting book two!

In summary, this book might be for you if you like….adorable animal companions, island worlds, established sapphic relationships, twists, unique magic systems, and politics- basically, you all need to check out The Bone Shard Daughter! The Bone Shard Daughter releases on September 8, 2020. Thank you to Andrea Stewart, Orbit Books, and Netgalley for a free ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Fae Prophecy is the tale of Dana, a headstrong princess determined to go through life on her own terms. When she learns that she possesses a mysterious power, Dana must master it in order to save her father and kingdom. As she races to better understand her magic, Dana encounters several intriguing characters. This is a fairly straightforward, classic fantasy. Written in an archetypal style, this story is likely ideal for those new to the genre. The pacing was a bit rough at times and struggled with telling vs. showing. Fae Prophecy is a short and enjoyable tale, which leaves you on a bit of a cliffhanger! It is clear that many adventures await Dana. If you love a classic story about adventurous princesses with magic, check out Fae Prophecy. Fae Prophecy is out now!
