⭐️4.5⭐️ Truly incredible. You’ll find yourself rooting for the character of Queenie every step of the way. Candice Carty-Williams does a brilliant job exploring amazing female friendships and toxicity within friendships, the day-to-day “casual” racism and misogynoir that’s thrown at black women, and anxiety and mental health discussions within black families. Queenie poses age old questions that people have been grappling with: What are you doing? Why are you doing it? What do you want to be? Queenie is an inclusive novel that is political, charismatic, and hilarious. I highly recommend!

Absolutely stunning! Part memoir, part essays. I had no idea what to expect going into this book of non-fiction, but Morgan Jerkins did not disappoint. She intricately weaves together her personal memoir stories with essays that relate to the lessons she's learned because of said story. I applaud the way she is very honest and raw in her writing, making sure to not spare feelings for the sake of keeping the peace. It took me a bit to get into the book, but after about 50 pages, I was hooked.

I wasn’t expecting this to be a favorite, but I am happily surprised. I laughed out loud at least once on every page of this book. Sally Thorne did a great job building the sexual tension between the two characters throughout most of the book, and the pay off at the end is well-deserved. This book is well-paced, features a HILARIOUS and relatable first-person woman protagonist, and has a complex and real-life love interest, where the focus is mainly on his character and flawed personality traits and not just his body. I thoroughly enjoyed this book, and it made me very excited to pick up 99 Percent Mine by Sally Thorne.
