overall fun and entertaining.

this is similar to watching an action movie of the kind of mission impossible or something similar ridiculously over the top.

this book has the same tone and pacing. it’s a book you can read and not think about the entire time and still be entertained and have fun with this.

this is not a book that gives you a huge background on people it world building. it’s not a book where you will get every detail or huge build up to something bigger.

it’s entirely a fun read that you can just read.
did the tone and humor is not for you in the first few pages? just let it go if you can DNF because the entire book keeps that tone.

i can’t really say more then repeat that it’s an entertaining and fun read that was pretty much perfect for what i needed at this moments a mostly a mindless listen where if i miss a few minutes of the audio i can still follow the story without problem.

i think you can only be disappointed by this if you go into this expecting a similar huge thing as the other interconnected books by this author.

the audio book was well done and i would recommend it.

i think it was a fun read.
it won’t be a favorite or one i need to reread but at the same time i wouldn’t mind re-experience this again if i am in the mood to just read something easy and fund

this was fine - porn without plot.

so if that’s what your looking for - it’s there.

but it’s not anything spectacularly fantastic or unforgettable.

good twist and overall good mystery.

this was a good read and overall enjoyable even if i do think that the twist reveal happened a bit too slowly and because of that the first half of the story dragged on for a bit too long.

and while the big twist itself wasn’t something that couldn’t been guessed the reasons behind it all were pretty well done.

it’s a good mystery and if you don’t mind a slower start and dislikeable characters and bullying as a plot point go for it.

a good second book and a solidly good read.

okay look…. i don’t love this series -neither the first nor this second book will become an all time favorite must re-read as often as possible kind of a deal - BUT it’s still a solidly good series.

it defiantly reads more like a younger YA with how it’s written and how the entire book and the whole series is build plot wise.
if you are someone that reads a lot or adult fantasy - this series is a window with a enlargement section in regards to plot points. you see them coming from large distances so clearly as if you had neon signs pointing them out.

but again that’s not a bad thing!

even though it’s clear in book one what is happening with one of the characters as soon as they are introduced that is done up in this second book in the second half of it as if it’s this big secret big secret being finally revealed …. it was still fun to read.

i enjoyed the writing style and while Winnie herself is extremely whinny and self absorbed in not only herself and whats going on with herself and gets annoyed of something isn’t going as she deems it right… the rest of the characters are pretty good.

overall this entire book and the combined reading experience of book 1 and 2 are good.

they are fun and easy and quick to read. they take you on a little adventure and make it easy to just sink in and not think because everything in this series is so easy to see coming nothing needs to be thought though or is hard to remember.

i still wish we would get a better view into the world and how it all works with the monsters and this magic stuff and the hunter things and all of that it’s just never actually explained. neither is this whole last names are the days of the week stuff… i would love to get a better understanding of the whys in this book.
but it’s also not really necessary to just read this and like it.

so: good second book that drove the plot of the series forward, gave some “reveals” and with that clear answers and still left enough to make readers want to come back to book 3 -which i do hope will be the last and  wrap this up because i don’t think more books than that could hold this story and plot because we know too little of the magical realism aspects to hold up more than 3 books.

all in all good read, good middle book and a nice read in itself.

if you enjoyed book one this one will be a good one for you.

and if you didn’t love book one -at least in this one winnie isn’t constantly clacking her teeth? nor are there as many “sound effects” moments in this which i know bothered a lot of other readers too.

also i think this series would be a nice bridge for younger YAs from contemporary to fantasy.
it had a bit of magic but still offers all the typical high school contemporary moments!

this was okay.

i liked parts and ideas of this book but it felt more like a rough draft than a completely finished and refined book.

also i am utterly unsure about the age range this book is supposed to be for.

it has moments where it feels like it should be for the 16+ year age range of the YA readers but there are so many small things - like “sound effects” which that was just weird to read about how things are being opened and closed over and over again as of being shown in a coming strip or something?- that felt specifically done for younger readers.

also the plot idea was there but very underdeveloped. and while i don’t think this kind of story needs a whole complex world development- it would have been nice and a good addition to get more details and info.  about the monsters about the whole weekday-name stuff and how there is apparently luminaries all over the world and this small town in the USA. why those places? what makes them special? and how do those places come to be and get found and kept hidden?

there are just the simple and basic questions that are not answered that could have been answered with a simple sentence or two and made the whole book better.

also i do not understand why a mother would purposefully stay in a place she is treated as less than dirt and has to know her kids that are still in school have to go through pretty bad bullying because of what has happened.
but instead of leaving and starting over…. they stay? in a place where everyone mistreats them? why?
never explained.

the already mentioned age range question is also present on the actual plot and how simple that is.

now hear me out i don’t mind a simple plot! i actually enjoy a simple plotted book between other reads because who doesn’t love a book where you do not have to concentrate the entire time to make sure nothing is missed? i need simpler stories so i didn’t mind the simple plot and how easy it was to see through it all.
but it didn’t feel like it was done in purpose by the author?
it felt like how the book was written was trying to hide the very obvious things -like the big reveal at the end and the jay stuff that could have been marked with light up neon lights and not be pointed out clearer what he is even when it’s never mentioned even at the end of this book.

so the mixture of everyone that read a few books being able to see where this book is going as soon as characters are introduced but at the same time never just coming out with it? that was a bit strange for me.

also the ending was completely abrupt.
it felt like it just ended without actually wrapping up. it felt like at least one chapter was missing?
the ending could have been done better!

all in all it was okay.

look this isn’t the best paranormal story out there but it’s fine!

the writing is good, the characters -besides their annoying and constantly mentioned quirks (winnie could have stopped clacking teeth after the first time and i did not need the poping sound of a gum constantly mentioned when a character is chewing gum and making bubbles with it…. just saying)- are okay and the idea and plot were okay.

it all was good.
just not great.

BUT hear me out here? not every single book needs to be the next best thing in existence!  sometimes a book can just be a good read and a fun time and that’s it.
nothing too deep or mesmerizingly wonderful and world changing.

this was fine and a nice read.

if you want something simple and easy to read? a book that doesn’t need you to keep track or think while read?
this is a good one!
