Happy Birthday to Me, Again flowed a little bit faster than the first book did for me. Since I was already introduced to the main characters and knew what was going on, I was able to get right into the story. But it is not one of those series where you can just come in in the middle and be able to pick everything up. The concept is a little out there so I would recommend reading all of the books, and not just starting with this one.
The concept of the Birthday trilogy books is a little strange but it is funny! Everyone is still a little shaken up by the close calls in the first book, so Happy Birthday to Me, Again has slightly more somber undertones, but it is still nonetheless entertaining.
The one thing I didn't care for too much was how fast Cameron and Liesel were moving. They get engaged in this book, and they are both so young! Now I get that Cameron had a really close call in the last book, but they are still only 17/18 years old and they have not been going out long at all. I guess this just bugged me, because it bugs me in real life when teens rush into serious things like marriage. But I do like both of them, so it was hard for me to be too annoyed with it. Plus, as we soon find out there is so much that Cameron just doesn't know about Liesel.
I like the Happy Birthday trilogy. They are fun books. Are they the most realistic books in the world? No, but they are original and enjoyable. I think that the third book in the trilogy is going to be the best one! I just started it and something big is happening, and I think I am going to like that one the most. Which is pretty cool, go out with a bang! :)
I LOVED the Goddess Test so I was so freaking excited to read Goddess, Interrupted. And it lived up to all of its expectations. I love mythology so much and I actually just posted another YA mythology review this week for Meg Cabot's Underworld. Even though both of these books deal with Lords of the Underworld, they are not really very similar at all. And I loved both of them.
I really like Kate and Henry. Sure, he is a little hard to read. Ok, make that super duper hard to read, but I just kept rooting for them. I did get a little frustrated at them a few times, but it was only because I liked them together so much that I wanted them to both pull their heads out of their respective butts and start treating the other one better.
Kate is really brave and I admired that most about her. She is not fearless, she has fears and insecurities but she learns to deal with them and she does what she has to do. She can be a little rash at times, but her heart is in the right place.
What I really like about this book is that the whole gang of gods and goddesses are present. They each have such distinct personalities and they personify their greek myth counterparts so well. Aimee did an amazing job with their characterizations.
Goddess Interrupted is very much like the first book, which was awesome for me. I loved the first book, and I loved the second one. If you had issue with the first book, you would probably have the same issues with this book, but if you are on the fence about the series I say read it. There are moments between Kate and Henry that will melt your heart! Seriously anyone who has read the book, please comment/email me/tweet me, because I want to talk with someone about it! This book just made me smile and I need to know what is going to happen next because the way this one ended left me hungry for more!

It is no secret that Meg Cabot is my favorite author.( Have I started a previous review with this sentence? It feels like I have, and my apologies if that is the case) She has this way with words and characters and her books are all varied, but one thing is always constant- her sense of humor. I know that if I pick up one of her books, ANY one of her books, that I will enjoy myself and that I will get more than a few chuckles out of it. It doesn't matter if she is writing mythology, contemporary, or paranormal- her characters are always lovable, snarky(or witty, or sarcastic) and awesome. Pierce is no different. She is strong willed but she cares so much about others.
I really enjoyed Abandon. John is brooding and hot and I love his protective streak. I couldn’t wait for the sequel, Underworld to come out. Mythology has been my favorite YA sub-genre for a few months now, and the underworld has always held a certain fascination for me. In college I remember doing a comparative paper analyzing various cultures views on the underworld and it was some of the most fun I have ever had while researching a paper for school.
I liked Underworld even more than Abandon! The story felt a little more developed and I loved all the interactions between Pierce and John. And there were a lot of interactions. While they do need to work on their communication a little bit, you can tell that they are both trying. In that respect this was a very realistic relationship. (you know, minus the whole lord of the underworld thing going on.) And that bird that John gave Pierce- way too cute!
There are a few new characters that we got to know in Underworld and they are each kooky and interesting. Plus, what on earth is going on with Pierce's cousin? I am still a little baffled by his behavior. I have a feeling we will be finding more out about him in the final book.
Underworld is a brisk, super enjoyable read. Meg Cabot has her finger on the pulse of pop culture and all things teen. I can't wait to find out what is going to happen next for John and Pierce but I am super sad that it is going to be the last book in the trilogy. I feel like there is easily enough background and plot to make this into a longer series! (wink, wink, nudge nudge Ms. Cabot and Scholastic)

Sounds Bites did not disappoint as a cute and convincing contemporary romance. I loved it! I could not put the book down. I had some errands I needed to run so I told myself that I would read for 2 hours and then I could run to the store, post office etc. Well, as you can probably guess- I didn't make it to any store that day. Once my two hours were up, I just couldn't bring myself to set the book aside. Not even for a few hours. I just kept on reading into the night.
I loved that at first glance Renee seems to be such a contradiction. (at least, that's how she seemed to Dylan- and I tend to agree with him) She seems like your typical blond hair, blue eyed pretty, preppy girl. But once you get to know her, she is so much more. She is selfless and sensitive, and boy can she hold a grudge. She is certainly not someone that I would want to make mad, because she would never let me forget about it. But she is so passionate about music.
This book centers around music and two people's love of all things music. It is so cute to see Renee and Dylan together because they just have so much in common. You can tell that they both live and breathe music. Music is what they love. Dylan is a complex guy. So much of what he is thinking or feeling is simmering just below the surface. He kind of makes you work for it, and he is a typical cocky guy. Sometimes he does dumb things and to say he is a player is putting it mildly.
But then you throw in the meant to be together aspect, (which is pretty predictable, I will give you that. It has been done before- good girl reforms the players ways. But it is not overly cliche or annoying. I thought the story was rich and detailed enough that it got away from the cliche for me) and I was hooked. There is something about the way Rachel writes and describes things that made me just fall in love right along with them and made me want to keep reading. I wont say that I absolutely loved every single second of the book, because there was one thing that I didn't particularly love (but it isn't something that I think would bother most people- AND no I won't tell you what it is, you will have to find out for yourself) but other than that little situational detail- I LOVED everything about this book. It wasn't overly predictable, the writing was great and the characters are so likable that you will be rooting for them the whole way. I fell in love with Sound Bites and I think you will too!

Loving Summer is the perfect beach read. I seriously had a perma-smile on while reading this book. Loving Summer is a cute, fun contemporary. I have read one other Kailin Gow book, Saving you Saving me and I enjoyed it so I expected to enjoy this book too. I just didn't realize how much I would love it.
Kailin has a tendency to make female characters that all the guys seem to love. And Summer was no different. She had three guys chasing after her, but it wasn't in an annoying- "this would never happen" way. I could totally picture why each of the guys fell for Summer. And they each complemented her and fit in their own ways. Drew is the jock that can have any girl, Nat is his older brother who Summer has had a crush on for forever, and Astor is the actor that noticed Summer at her aunt's acting studio.
They each seemed really genuine in their affections and the book is going to be a series so it is left open. I have no idea who she will end up with. But for me, there was a clear winner for Summer. I'm not going to tell you what happens in the book, but I will say that I was on team Drew from the very first page all the way to the last page. I liked the other two guys but they just didn't do anything for me. I'm really curious to see who other people like as far as the guys go. I don't even want to tell you too much about them because I want you to read the book for yourself and pick one that you think would be best for Summer.
I thought the writing in Loving Summer was really good. A few times in Saving you Saving me there were awkward sentences or clumsy grammar and it disrupted the story and flow of the book, but I didn't notice any of that here. I thought the writing was descriptive and pulled me right in to that beach house along with Summer, Nat, Drew and Rachel. Loving Summer is my favorite summer/beachy read of the year and I know I am going to love the rest of the series. I wish the second book was out right now, because I really want to see what happens next.

This book is a pretty fast paced read. I read it one day I think. There is really a lot going on in the book; lots of action. I really enjoyed that because I have not read a book that involved action like this in a while. There are a few really good fight scenes too!
I felt awful for Sofia. The girl could not catch a break- seriously everything that could go wrong in her life did. Her dad was killed- the book actually starts with his death scene. And then her mom just falls apart. I could not stand Sofia's mom! I just had no respect for her. I understand that people have hard times, we all do. But for her to completely fall apart and not take care of her daughter was not ok to me. My heart just went out to Sofia.
I also really liked that Sofia's physical "transformation" was slow. She didn't just wake up gorgeous over night. She was still kind of awkward and a little too skinny. It just made her so much more likable.
I'm not going to say too much about Jason and Robbie because that is part of the fun of the book. Figuring out who you can trust along with Sofia, and it isn't always easy. This book was not predictable, which is awesome! I love when a book can surprise me. I have read a lot of books, so most of the time I can see the writing on the wall and I at least have some idea of what is going to happen, but multiple times throughout reading Redheads are Soulless I was surprised. I do wish there was a little bit more background information earlier on, but I it all comes together in the end. It added to the mystery of the book, actually. I am really excited to read the second book because now that I know the players a little bit better, I feel like the real fun is just getting started!

Abbi Glines knows romance. I would like to start out by saying that this is really upper YA and almost not YA at all. I would call it "new adult", which is a new genre that I am really loving. (it's basically upper YA/adult crossover) I LOVED The Vincent Boys, and Beau is one of my all time favorite book boyfriends. I am pretty much obsessed with him. The Vincent Brothers is awesome too. I just love reading Abbi's books because this lady knows how to tell a story!
I liked Sawyer from The Vincent Boys. I loved how good he was, so I was really excited that he was getting his own book. And Lana just works so much better for him than Ash ever did, in my opinion. But I have to say, Sawyer disappointed a little bit in this book. I understand that he thought Ash was the love of his life, but he kind of acted like a jerk at some points in this book. He claimed to be the "good" brother, but he was openly using Lana for a little bit. And Ash always had the best of intentions and he was rude to her too. Now, I was not ready to give up on Sawyer. (even though he did sign with University of Florida- and I'm a Florida State Seminole for life- but I'll overlook that as a lapse in judgment) I kept rooting for him and Lana. Because Lana- she is AWESOME! I just loved her- so I wanted Sawyer to snap out his attitude for her sake. And he did snap out of his funk and then he was the same lovable Sawyer. I missed him and was really happy to see him back on track.
Really the best thing about this book is watching how two people can affect each others lives and actually help shape the kind of person you can be. It was incredible watching Lana and Sawyer change each other. (in a good way). I loved them together and I loved reading about their journey. It wasn't all fun and games, but then again- neither is life. Beau and Ash also have a role in this book and they are as cute as ever. I want to read another book about Beau!! He is my favorite Vincent Brother by far. The Vincent Boys series are some of the best contemporary romances that I have ever read. This is a great summer read.

This book was a bit of a rollercoaster for me. Right away, I liked the book. I connected with Marissa off the bat and I thought the premise was really interesting. Then my interest started drifting and I wasn’t in love with the middle. But I kept reading and boy am I glad I did! After about the halfway point, the book started gaining momentum with me again and I started liking the story more and more and more. I ended up really liking Undertow. The story really is great as a whole.
Marissa is very complex. She is strong willed and yet also really fragile. I loved loved loved that for once people were not so trusting of the supernatural. There was a lot of skeptism in Undertow and honestly this is the more realistic reaction so I was really happy to see it.
Jim is pretty great too. He is so dependable and loyal. I really can’t wait to see what happens with him in the next book. He just makes me smile, so I am really hoping that he is happy.
So while there was a lull in the middle of the book for me, I am really glad that I read the whole book because I ended up really enjoying it! I was not expecting this book to take this direction, and it was really refreshing to be this surprised by a story. Undertow is a really good story, and Callie really threw me for a loop! Awesome job Ms. Kingston

Why on earth don't I read more angel books. I have really enjoyed all the angel books that I have read this last year, but I still don't read too many of them. Angel Eyes is a great story! I thoroughly enjoyed the whole thing. Since it is an angel book, it does deal with God and faith a little bit throughout, but it never seemed overbearing or like it was forcing religious views on you. I am not a fan of overly religious books and Angel Eyes didn't bug me one bit. I loved hearing Brielle's story and I really connected with her. This is going to be an awesome trilogy!
Brielle, or Elle has dealt with a lot of trauma, but she never once seemed whiny or "poor me", which is super admirable. Even when she wasn't feeling especially strong, she never gave up. I just have a lot of respect for people with that attitude and so it was no surprise to me that I fell in love with Elle from page one. I love that she is a dancer and I can't wait to see her hopefully get back in the dance studio in the next book.
Jake is just flat out adorable. Or should I say "hot"? I'm a pretty big fan of Jake. He is just good to the core, and I love me some good guys. It was just too cute to see what caused him fear. It was just so vulnerable and endearing. I can't wait to see so much more of him. My heart just broke for him at the end of the book and let me just tell you, he needs to be happy in the next book. Jake is just one of those people that deserves rainbows, and sunshine and just to be happy. Elle better treat him right, because even as much as I love her, I love Jake even more!
One of the coolest things about this book is how the angels are described. I loved the description of them and their powers. I haven't read a ton of angel books so I'm not sure how original they were, but they felt authentic and unique to me. Angel Eyes is a beautiful and emotional journey. It grabbed a hold of my heart and made me fall in love. Shannon Dittemore's writing is wonderful, and I can't wait to see what she has in store for us with the next book.

I really loved this book! Masquerade is told in a few different POVs. It has the normal split POV between the main girl and the main guy. I love this style, and what I really liked about it were the proportions. Heven had a little more than double the amount of chapters as Sam did. It worked out really well. But in addition to these two know POVs, there were also some sporadic mysterious POVs. These were such an awesome addition! I kept trying to figure out who they were. I didn't even know if they were characters that we had already met in the story or not. I like that you are kept in the dark about their identities but it doesn't leave you totally confused for the story. I am just super impressed with Cambria and her writing style. Everything worked so well.
Heven is smart, nice, popular and pretty and then something awful happens to her. I felt so bad for her because she is such a good person. And then as I was reading the story, instead of feeling bad for her, I just started feeling very proud of her. And then her mom would open her mouth and I started getting so defensive of Heven. I got pretty attached to Heven. :) I honestly just wanted to punch her mom and give Heven a hug.
The other characters are all well developed too and they all evoked emotions in me. I love Sam, I really like Cole, I hate Heven's mom, and Kimber leaves me a little indifferent. On one hand, I think she is a good friend but there is just something about her. Her jealousy bugs me. But I like that there is a pretty large cast of characters that play a significant role in the story.
I don't want to give too much of the story away because experiencing the story for the first time was awesome for me. I think that if I had read a lot of spoilers about Masquerade, some of the excitment and appeal of it would have been lost for me while reading it. It is just one of those books that you have to experience for yourself to get the full effect of it. I am so excited to start Charade right now, that I don't even want to finish writing my review. I just want to pick up Charade and start reading. This is a great book for fans of the paranormal. I can't wait to read the rest of Cambria's books!
