Loving Summer
by Kailin Gow
Loving Summer is the perfect beach read. I seriously had a perma-smile on while reading this book. Loving Summer is a cute, fun contemporary. I have read one other Kailin Gow book, Saving you Saving me and I enjoyed it so I expected to enjoy this book too. I just didn't realize how much I would love it.
Kailin has a tendency to make female characters that all the guys seem to love. And Summer was no different. She had three guys chasing after her, but it wasn't in an annoying- "this would never happen" way. I could totally picture why each of the guys fell for Summer. And they each complemented her and fit in their own ways. Drew is the jock that can have any girl, Nat is his older brother who Summer has had a crush on for forever, and Astor is the actor that noticed Summer at her aunt's acting studio.
They each seemed really genuine in their affections and the book is going to be a series so it is left open. I have no idea who she will end up with. But for me, there was a clear winner for Summer. I'm not going to tell you what happens in the book, but I will say that I was on team Drew from the very first page all the way to the last page. I liked the other two guys but they just didn't do anything for me. I'm really curious to see who other people like as far as the guys go. I don't even want to tell you too much about them because I want you to read the book for yourself and pick one that you think would be best for Summer.
I thought the writing in Loving Summer was really good. A few times in Saving you Saving me there were awkward sentences or clumsy grammar and it disrupted the story and flow of the book, but I didn't notice any of that here. I thought the writing was descriptive and pulled me right in to that beach house along with Summer, Nat, Drew and Rachel. Loving Summer is my favorite summer/beachy read of the year and I know I am going to love the rest of the series. I wish the second book was out right now, because I really want to see what happens next.
