This is such an awesome book! I could not put it down! Here is mysterious and the characters are enthralling. I spent the first 30% of the book trying to figure Evan out along with Julia.
Speaking of Julia, I immediately connected with her. I felt so bad for her and all she has had to go through. But when she starts to get her "spark" back is when she really got to me. I think everyone will be able to relate to Julia, and that is one of the beautiful things about Denise's writing.
There are two main guys in this book- Evan and Reese but so much of the story focuses on Evan that it was hard to get to know Reese as well. But I ended up liking both of them, and I think I may just be as confused as Julia. I can't wait to see what happens in book 2!!
At times it was hard to determine who was saying what, and what was just a character's thoughts, but I think that might have just been the formatting of the review copy I had. HERE sets the stage for what is going to be an AMAZING series. The second book is called THERE and I am already dying to read it. HERE is one of my favorites for 2012 for sure! The concept is soo cool! You will just have to read it to find out what I mean. This is one book that you definitely do not want spoilers for. I don't want to tell you anything so you can experience it all for yourself. I will tell you this. The writing is great, the characters are well fleshed out and really likable, and the world building is incredible! You need to read HERE right now!

Dark Heirloom is your standard Vampire book. Now I should preface this with the statement that I really enjoy vampire books. The only reason I said this one is standard is because it stays pretty close to the typical vampire lores. Now I did really like the explanation of the different clans and the description of the evolution of the creatures. I especially enjoyed learning about the various powers and abilities the vampire clans have.
Ema is a very strong willed character. I liked her a lot. But one of the main problems I had with this story was that I didn't connect very deeply with Ema. She had her moments where I felt like there was real development and that she was planting roots with the readers, but for the most part she seemed kind of stagnant to me.
I like Jesu the most. He is adorable and so cute. I loved that he turned blue when he blushed! I wanted to learn more about him but he is so closed off that we didn't get to see too much of his insight. I would have loved to see a little bit more of his feelings for Ema and some of his emotions. Maybe there will be more of that in the second book. I am going to be reading the second book more for Jesu than for Ema.
Overall, Dark Heirloom was a good book. It didn't blow me out of the water, but it did hold my interest and the writing was good. I didn't particularly like the ending. I felt like it kind of just cut off. But not in a huge build up kind of way, it just stopped. I would certainly continue the series because I am really interested to see what is going to happen next. Mostly for Jesu. If you like Vampire books, Dark Heirloon might be a good one for you to check out.

This book is downright creepy! Seriously, I finished reading it at night and I had trouble going to sleep! I even woke up more than a few times in the middle of the night and when I was between sleep and awake, I even thought that I saw some things. That's how realistic and awesome this book is. I love how scary it all was- I might just read the next one during the day. With all the lights on, and around other people, that's all. :)
The best part about the Experiment in Terror series is that it's mysterious enough to keep you asking questions and realistic enough for you to be thoroughly creeped out. You can actually see this happening. That's what is so awesome about it. I have to know more though, I need to read book 2 ASAP because I am so intrigued by the cryptic old woman. I need to know what the connection is between Dex and Perry is!
Speaking of Perry, how awesome of a character is she? I related to her on almost every level. It has been a while since I have completely felt in-sync with the main character in a book. It was so refreshing to see someone like Perry. She is full of awesome and so likable that you will be jumping up and down rooting for her. Perry will be making my top ten lists of female characters, that's for sure. I flat out loved her. She makes me even more excited to read the rest of the series.
I like that Darkhouse is complete and can stand on its own but the plot buildup is so intricately created that it weaves subplots in that will cross over the books. I love it when series are done this way. The ending leads up to the next book. i just really liked the way the book was set up. In full disclosure, Darkhouse did take me a little while to get into. (probably around 30-45 pages or so) but once I hit that 45 page mark, I was hooked and I didn't even come up for air until the book was done. This is going to be one creeptastic series! One I am sure I am going to really, really like.

It's no secret to anyone that I LOVE Abbi Glines and all of her works, but Dank holds an extra special place in my heart. Because of that, I was super excited to read the second book in the existence trilogy.( btw, just typing out the word trilogy pains me, because I know there will only be one more book) If you liked Existence, then you have to read Predestined!
Dank is even more adorable in this book. He thinks he is such a big baddie but he is really such a softie when it comes to Pagan. I love that about him. He clearly cares about her, and he would do anything for her. I loved all of his little jealous moments and I can't wait to see more of those in the next book. The best part about Predestined is that parts of it were in Dank's POV! I can't tell you how happy it made me to read about things from his point of view. I really like male POV in general, but when it is a character that I have already fallen in love with, I like it even more.
One thing that surprised me while reading Predestined was how much I didn't hate Leif. I fully expected him to be this big, bad soulless and that I would hate him right off the bat, but I really liked learning about him and what his connection to Pagan was. It was really interesting! Abbi Glines has such a way with words and characters. Honestly, I know I have said it before but this woman just knows how to write awesome characters. You fall in love with them, you root for them, you feel like you KNOW them. She is a great writer- she makes it all look easy.
Predestined grabbed my attention from page one and I devoured the book way too fast for my liking. But I couldn't help it, I just could not put the book down! Come to think of it, I don't think I have spent more than a single day on any of Mrs. Glines' books- they are just that good. The characters pull you in and the romance and storylines keep you glued to your seats begging for me. At least, that is my experience with her books. Abbi Glines just knows romance. The existence trilogy is AMAZING. One of my favorite paranormal series that I have ever read. I don't think I would ever get tired of re-reading this series!

This book grew on me as I read it. When I first picked it up, it took me a while to get into it. This book is long. I think it is around 580 pages or so. And At points it really feels like it. But once I really got into the story, I ended up connecting with the characters and enjoying myself. Then I liked how long the book was, because I wanted to know what was going to happen. I didn't want it to end. The ending made me want to stick around and read the second book too! Ok let's break it down some more.
Elena is pretty cool. She seems virtually indestructible. But it did take awhile to like her. I'm not really sure why. I think at the beginning I just saw her as a bit of a trouble maker. And don't get me wrong- she is a HUGE trouble maker, but as the book went on I just got to understanding her a little bit better. And then once the mystery surrounding her unusual circumstances came up, I was fully on team Elena. For some reason, I always pictured Elena from the Vampire Diaries when I was thinking about her. I also really, really liked William! I can't wait to see how that whole thing will pan out.
This brings me to some of the things that I didn't love about The Hunted. First, the book is a really complex concept, which I really did like- but that takes a lot of foundation laying so you can actually understand how the world works and who the main players are. I get that, but it kind of felt like this book was a bit too much foundation laying at points. I also thought that there were a lot of really dense big paragraphs and they dragged on a bit for me. I would have liked to seen them broken up a bit more with dialogue and other breaks. I think that would have made the book flow a bit better. But I will say that at about the half way point, the story really picks up and I didn't notice any more slow parts/or find myself thinking there was too much on the page.
I also didn't like all the references to "tempting fate" with William and Elena. Let me explain, it's not the situation that I didn't like. I think that is going to be one of my favorite parts of the next book; I can't WAIT to see a certain new character and find out what he is going to bring to the table. But, I didn't like that Elena heard all of these comments and never once asked what they meant. I would think that she would be curious or at least as William when they were alone, but it never came up at all!
Overall, this book dragged for me a bit in some places and it had a lot of set up. But once I got into the story and I knew everything that was going on, I enjoyed the book. The second half was much better than the first half of the book in my opinion. If you started this book and put it down for whatever reason, pick it back up and read the whole thing. I think you will like it! It just keeps getting better as the story goes on, and book 2 looks like it is going to be even better than this one!

This book is really unique. In a good way. I enjoyed reading this story from start to finish. It made me cringe in embarrassment for the characters a few times, but that was because of the situations they were in. This is the story of an air spirit that becomes human to go after the boy she fell in love with. and oh yea, he has a girlfriend (of course). It seems like such a hard relationship to make work. Logistically, there are just a ton of things that have to happen. First you need to find him, even if you narrow him down to just the US, that is still huge! Then you have to figure out how being a human even works, and then you need to make him fall in love with you.
It seems like there is a lot that needs to happen, and I was worried when I first started reading the book that the story had the potential to be very unrealistic. But I was so pleasantly surprised with how everything was laid out and how it all unfolded and worked itself out. everything was super hard for Alice/Aeris. Even little things like using utensils. It was those little details that I really loved. If you had never observed human culture and you just popped into human existence one day, you would not know how to do anything! And Alice didn't. I'm surprised more people didn't think she was super strange. I guess it helped how pretty she was. That is the one thing that Alice has going for her- she is gorgeous. And true to form in the real world, being extra pretty seemed to help her in some situations.
I liked Daniel as well. I read books 1 and 2 back to back, so it's a bit hard for me to separate my feelings for him in book 1 with those in book 2. He seemed to change a lot, but here he is just a cute smitten boy. I really liked him! I love when Alice finds the "A" song on his song idea board in his room. Too cute.
Overall, Thin Air is a really good book! I enjoyed it a lot, and I grew attached to Alice. I am really liking this series. I'm interested to see where it is going to go from here. My review of book 2 is coming later today!

This book was a bit darker than the first one. The characters each had their own insecurities that needed to be worked out and some new players came onto the scene. I liked the simplistic life of the first book, Thin Air, a bit more- but nothing can stay easy forever, right? Friendly Fire picks up a little bit after the end of Thin Air.
Alice is finally adjusting to life as a human, but Daniel isn't making it much easier for her. He doesn't want her to change at all. Personally, I thought he overreacted a lot throughout the book. He didn't even want her to wear any kind of makeup- at all! At the same time, I understand that he is under an immense amount of pressure looking for the Dark Legion. That can't be an easy thing to deal with; never knowing if you are safe or not. But that still doesn't give him an excuse to be an overbearing bonehead. Which he was, for almost the entire book. Even though Daniel was not my ideal guy this book, I had seen him be sweet and charming in the first book and I kept holding out hope that he would snap out of his funk and be the old daniel again.
Terrence was no better. I will just come right out and say it- I didn't like Terrence. Even after EVERYTHING that happened in Friendly Fire, I am still on team Daniel. Terrence just seems shady to me, and it just feels like the only way he can get Alice is if he manipulates her feelings and makes her like him. And something about that just rubs me the wrong way.
This book was really interesting and I liked seeing all the new people work their way into the story line but Friendly Fire was a lot sadder than Thin Air and that bummed me out a little. Take the ending, for example, I am not a fan of the ending. But it totally makes me want to read book 3 ASAP! So I guess in that sense, it did it's job- but I still don't have to like how this book ended. I just want certain people to pull their head out of their butt and just be happy! haha But overall, Friendly Fire was a really good second installment in the Thin Air Saga!

Allison Pang does not disappoint with book two in the Abby Sinclair series. It has just as much fun, snark, magic and adventure as the first book. The writing is fantastic and the characters are some of the best I have read in a while. I am such a huge fan of Abby. She is so kick ass!
Abby always seems to find herself in the thick of the trouble.I think this is because she is so strong that she is the only one around that can deal with these problems. She is so unique, and I just love how fleshed out she is. She is so three dimensional. I feel like I really know her.
My only complaint in this book is that there was just not enough Ion. I always want more of him. He was moping around for a lot of the book and I just wanted to yell at him to "Snap out of it and do something!" Taliver was charming too. I didn't want to like him, but he quickly won me over. He is really sweet and of course he likes Abby so much. I feel like he is a really genuine character. But he is just not Ion to me. And he can't help that my heart is already on team Ion.
I liked seeing into the land of the fey. I find them fascinating so I always like to read about different authors takes on the creatures. Allison's are really interesting. (As are all her depictions of creatures) I liked the storyline of this one. Although I must say the nightmare storyline from the first book is still my favorite. But this story was a great continuation of the series.
I am loving this series so much. The writing is great, the characters are amazing and the plot is addictive. I can't wait to read book 3!!

I guess I need to admit this right now. I have been telling myself that I am not a huge fan of vampire books, because they are not all done well and the concept is overdone- but I can't lie to myself, or you guys, anymore. I really like vampire books! Yes, some of them are not executed well, but the good ones- I really like them! And this is one of the good ones.
It kind of reminded me of the YA version of True Blood. Vampires had come out to the world and people were fascinated with them. They even have a sort of drug made from vamp blood. But I also really liked that some of the small towns had vampire protectors. That made them seem more human- protecting and watching over the town.
The guys in this book confused me a little. I couldn't really get a hold on either of them until pretty late in the book. I liked both of them well enough. I know that by the end, I like Sebastian more. I wouldn't really call ReVamped a love triangle because romance was not really the focus at all. There were just two guys in the story that played pretty big roles. Now I think a love triangle might pop up in the next book. In fact, I would be shocked if it didn't but ReVamped kind of just set the stage for it.
Dawn is a cool girl. I liked that she was all badass but still kind of shy. And the mystery surrounding her was pretty neat too. I kept trying to guess what it was about her birth that was different, but I didn't even come close to getting it right! I love that! I love that reVamped kept me guessing and then wasn't predictable at all. I would recommend this book to anyone that liked True Blood (now this is def. the YA version, so it will be different in some regards) or anyone that appreciates a good vampire book.
