Wow! A lot happened in this short story. It was totally not what I was first expecting. It was so much better! It sets up the background for Lacrimosa perfectly. This is going to be an intense, dark, and super awesome series. I just know it.
This is just a short 0.5 type of story to give the readers some extra insight and information on the characters. I was so sad to see the one of the characters die. And I will admit that I wanted ...to be continued

I love that this book had some meat to it. I have been reading so many shorter books lately so it was nice to change it up and go for a 400 page plus book. You really have more of a chance to get to know all of the characters and the build up and secrets are so much cooler! I really enjoyed this book and I know Im going to love following the Bonfire Academy series as well as the Bonfire Chronicles series.
I feel like Faustine is going to start taking a more central role in the books. I hope she has some character growth in the next one, because while I did like her, I just wasn't too please with some of her changes towards the end of the book. She started to get a little bit of a cocky edge to her. I hope she still remains somewhat nice. I am super curious to learn more about the secrets that surround her. There was a nice little buildup and even by the very end of the book it's still very mysterious.
While I like Faustine, I LOVE Cordelia. I really hope she remains a main character in the chronicles series. I have to know what is going to happen between her and Quinn and Jagger. It's not even really a love story because nothing really happened. Both guys are super nice and sweet. Quinn in so trusting. He never once suspected anything was going on between Cordelia and Jagger and he never once got jealous. It was a little anti-climactic in that regard. I mean, come on, in a school of this size everyone seems to know everyone else's business. But somehow it was totally secret that Jagger and Cordelia were all of a sudden together way more than normal. It was a little strange. Hopefully the relationships will pick up in the next book. It's hard for me to say who I like for Cordelia. I just love Jagger, but Quinn is awesome. He was ALWAYS there for Cordelia and never once complained or put up a fuss. It was a little unrealistic. He is a demon after all, he shouldn't be quite so giving and nurturing. Perhaps if he was more like a normal demon I could pick Jagger over him more easily?
Overall, the storyline is excellent. It pulls you right into the world of this cool boarding school brimming with paranormals. I liked how realistic the setting was. The fact of the matter is, if you get enough young paranormals together, who don't all get along by the way, there are bound to be some mishaps and fights. I also appreciated how hard control was for some of them. I have read a few books where you see shifters and vampires with a surprising control over their baser instincts and it is not always too realistic. There were a few instances of choppy writing at the beginning and the relationship development could use a little work on the realistic front. But this is a great story!! I can't wait for the second book to come out. I actually want to read it right now. I don't want to wait!

This book was awesome! I'm so happy that I have the next book, Black Blood, so that I can start reading it as soon as I get a chance! I would have been so sad if I had to wait to get the next book, that's how much I enjoyed this book.
Gemma and Harrison are super cute together. Harrison may be a little cheesy at times, but strangely enough it really works for him. He comes off as cute and in love, and it's impossible not to root for the two of them. Gemma has to be so cold aloof towards people. It broke my heart seeing her so alone. And then comes adorable Harrison, who has moved all over the place and becomes captivated by beautiful Gemma. But what I liked the most, was that it wasn't just a shallow at first glance attraction. He really liked her. One of my favorite parts of the book, was when Harrison was trying to convince his mom that it was just a light and fun fling and he mom said- "that's not you Harrison, you are all or nothing." That sums him up perfectly! He is super loyal and always in 100%. I loved that about him. That is honestly a very rare and noble trait, in my opinion. There should be more people as loyal as Harrison.
I can't wait to see what is going on with Gemma's dad exactly. Something just does not sit right with me where he is concerned. I hope to explore that more in the next book. Plus you have the strange fire that Gemma and Harrison have, and why does he move around so much? There is some mystery there, I just know it! And I can't wait to find out what it is. This trilogy is going to be awesome!
I also really liked that the book didn't jump right into the time travel right away. It's in the description of the book, so you know it's going to be there, but Melissa Pearl takes her time and really develops the characters before getting into that part of the story. I really appreciated that. I became so invested in Gemma's life that I felt like I was struggling right there beside her. That is the mark of good writing. Melissa Pearl just write characters that you can't help but sympathize with and like. Golden Blood is a great book, and a wonderful start to what im sure is going to be a very exciting trilogy.

This is the second reincarnation book that I have read. I really enjoyed it. I thought that it was a really nice take on soul mates. This book is cute and will make you smile. I caught myself really rooting for Dez and Lexi. I quickly read the book in just one sitting. I didn't put it down once.
Lexi is so strong willed. I loved that about her and I feel like Dez should give her more credit sometimes. That was the only thing I would have changed about the book. It would have been nice to see him really trust her. I liked that he finally confided in her, but he didn’t really choose to do it- certain circumstances forced him into a confession. I wish it would have been because he wanted to share this with her. Lexi is strong and she was making such great progress. I felt like at times Dez held her back a little. Of course I could have also done with a little jealousy. Not anything annoying or overbearing, but maybe just a little interest from another guy to get Dez just a smidge shaken up. I’ll admit that in moderation, jealousy can be exciting. In books, that is. In real life I can do without it, but for whatever reason I like a reasonably jealous main guy. But too much turns me off. Dez was not jealous at all, and he was great. I just felt like something was missing from his character.
The story in Amber Eyes just kind of floats along. It was never too slow, and certainly not too fast. The conflict didn’t start until about half way into the book. That is a bit slow for me but I was loving the cute story so much that I barely even noticed until I was done and I started thinking about the book through my “review lens”. But boy, oh boy the conflict is going to be a good one. I loved how it set up the next book. It is going to be good. Enough questions were answered so you don’t feel like you are drowning in the unknown, but there is also some mystery to build on for the next book. The last 50 pages of the book are by far, my favorite. Which makes me think that I’m going to like the second book even more!

This is not your average light and fluffy read. And I really appreciated that about it. (don't get me wrong, sometimes I LOVE happy go lucky cute reads, but sometimes you need some meat to bite into). Forgiving Trinity deals with very real issues and it deals with them headfirst. In a very raw and emotional way. I loved the writing style. The character growth for Trinity was not always fluid. Sometimes she reverted, but it really worked for who she was as a character. I think Liz Reinhardt did an excellent job creating this gritty reality.
Trinity is nothing like me, and yet I found I could relate to her no problem. We have all had things holding us back. Things that we have had to overcome. And a lot of times, these things are from our own doing- just like Trinity. I didn't always agree with all of her choices but the writing was so honest, so realistic that I got sucked right in. I sympathized with Trinity. She just wanted to make things right after "that night" and I just wanted her to be happy.
Aiden was beyond awesome helping her along. He was loyal and steadfast, being adorable the whole time. I can't tell you how many times, I wanted to yell at Trinity for running away. That seems to be the new way she dealt with her problems after "that night". She slowly started progressing and I think Ruth and Aiden had a huge role to play in that. I loved learning about them along the way too. Even though the focus of the story is on Trinity, Liz takes some time to develop their backstories as well. I'll admit that I did want to see a little more romance from Aiden and Trinity, but I get that that was not the point of the story.
Overall, Forgiving Trinity is such a great read. It was the first of Liz's books that I have read and it made me super excited to give her other books a try! I have heard such great things about Doublt Clutch that I cannot wait to get my hands on it. If her writing is anything like it is here, I know that I will enjoy it! If you are looking for a real, honest book, I would give Forgiving Trinity a try.

Time traveling is on a roll for me! This is the second time travel book I have read this week and it's the second one that I have really enjoyed. They were a little different. In Golden Blood by Melissa Pearl, the father actually controls when and where his children travel back to. In Clockwise, Casey has no control over when she "trips" as her friend calls it. And she always goes back to the same time period. I think the clockwise time travel is scarier for a few reasons. One, she goes by herself so it has to be more isolating and lonely for her. And two she has absolutely no control over it. She doesn't even know how long she will be gone for. That has got to be tough.
I really liked Casey. She is resourceful. (I bet she would make an AWESOME Girl Scout- haha) She is practical and strong willed. Those are all really admirable traits. Of course, she is still a typical teenager. She fell "in love" with Nate the first time she saw him. And of course, he turns out to be the popular/jock guy at school. But once you get to know him, he turns out to be so much more. They both do really. I enjoyed watching their relationship progress because it was a pretty slow progression. Nate doesn't actually show any interest until well over half way through the book. That is a pretty good pace for me.
I would have liked to see a few more bonding moments for them though. I know tripping is what bonded them the most, but it seemed like Nate started liking Casey simply because they were around each other more. Which is a pretty good reason, because he got to know her but I would have like a bit more insight into their conversations and whatnot. I must say, I did enjoy the few jealous moments that Nate had. And towards the end of the book Nate was seriously sweet. Always checking for dark circles under Casey's eyes. Too cute. He really grew on me.
The plot of Clockwise is really unique. I really enjoyed watching how everything fit together. I'm not really sure where the second book is going to go but I am really excited to find out! If the pacing and writing is anything like this book, I know I will enjoy it a lot! Since I have been on a time traveling kick, does anyone else know of any time travel recommendations for me? I would love to read some more!

This book seems like such a cool idea! I picked it up because of the premise. I actually enjoyed the story but I also had some issues with it. First I will talk about the things that worked for me.
Children of the Gods has some really good characters! Reka is strong and compassionate. I appreciated the fact that she was trying to be a good person. The same goes for Jaxson. He really was a good person, and I really started to like him. I love that Reka is strong enough to try and fight off the alien inside of her but I wish I would have gotten to know her personality as herself a little first before I saw her thrust into this life. That way, I would have been able to tell if she stayed the same or if there were changes. As the story was told, I really only got to know Reka as "the chosen". And I liked who she was, I hope that was who she was before too.
One of the things I had an issue with was the pacing of the novel. It felt a bit choppy in parts and sometimes was not explained fully. I caught myself re-reading more than one part because I was really confused. Things came out of nowhere and kind of surprised me and threw me off balance. If you like the type of book that just keeps throwing curve balls at you, then you might really enjoy Children of the Gods. The curve balls just didn't always seem to fit within the story.
Reka seems like such a strong girl to me that I was a little shocked that she started to like Jaxson almost immediately. She starts out hating him and then boom, she is all about him. I mean, I do get it- Jaxson was really nice and clearly loved her so much, but it just seemed a little rushed to me.
The last issue I had with this book was the ending. Now maybe this was just because I was enjoying the story and it went to a place where I totally didn't want to see it go. The ending made me sad. But also, this book is called a chosen novel, which implies that there will be more than one of them. The way the book ended totally made me think that it would be a standalone novel. So i'm not really sure if there will be another book or not. Everything kind of wrapped up,so I would be really interested to see what the story would be about.
Overall, the premise behind Children of the Gods is really cool. I enjoyed the main storyline. I just had some problems with the execution of it. The writing is good and the characters are good, but the book is choppy and rushed in sections and then kind of just throws you off a cliff with the ending. I wish this book could have been a bit more than it was, but I still liked reading it.

I initially chose to read this book based on the cover. It just pulled me in. I love the gothic feel of it. Plus, I have been on quite the angel kick recently. And actually, this book was a completely fresh take on the concept of Angels. While I do love the tradition angel books lately, my favorite part of the story was how unique it was.
The character's in this book are all great, but it was the writing and the storyline that really sold me. So rather than talking about each of the characters like I normally do, I'm going to focus more on the plot and writing.
This book does have a love triangle, and you know I like a GOOD love triangle. This was a good one. Both of the guys complemented Emily. The idea that they threw a soul mate into the mix, and then take away their memories for an extra measure. That was really interesting.
I loved that emily and Matt took over their "assignment's" body right after they died. They did this in order to complete whatever it was that person was supposed to accomplish in life. This is such an awesome idea, but I wasn't completely on board with the total loss of their memories. They trained their whole lives to be able to do these "jobs" and then they wipe away all memories of their training. Plus is leaves them very isolated and alone. Now, I do understand why they temporarily lose their memories, I just know that if it were me I would hate that.
Overall, this is such a unique story. There were a few slow moments that lost my attention, but I would always become re-engaged within a few pages. I really enjoyed reading it. I can't wait to see what Amy has in store for us next!

Katniss the Cattail: An Unauthorized Guide to Names and Symbols in Suzanne Collins' The Hunger Games
If you are a die hard fan of the Hunger Games series like me and enjoy reading any extra knowledge on the characters just to feel more connected to the story then you will enjoy this book. Katniss the Cattail goes into depth explaining the history and meaning behind each character from all three of the books within the series. It also mentions why some of the symbols used within the series hold such meaning and importance to the characters.
Focusing on the three main characters, or ‘The Big Three’, this story goes in depth to find the real meanings behind the names and personalities for each Katniss, Peeta, and Gale. The author really did her homework on researching the histories behind the names that Suzanne Collins made come to life. We get to see that Katniss’ name does not only represent a root, Peeta is not just a bread, and Gale is not just a powerful force of nature. The other names are defined in less detail but lets face it, they aren’t the main characters. They all have that are either defined in history, by nature, in representation of their district, or even influenced by other literary characters. No matter where they came from they all hold an important meaning in the Hunger Games.
This author defiantly spent her time researching all the possible meanings behind these names and symbols. It is clearly shown within the long in depth descriptions of the main characters names. This book might of been a little slow at times if you aren’t a real lover of the Hunger Games and just want to know as much about these books and their characters as possible; but nevertheless it was a very interesting and enlightening read.
