Checkmate: This is Reckless is the third book in the Checkmate series and the first book in the duet about drew & Courtney. The checkmate series is by the fantastic writing duo known as Kennedy Fox. No one seems to know the identity of this mysterious author duo, but I am offering a reward of endless cookies if someone can tell me who they are. I promise, I am very good at keeping a secret. 😉 😉 I read, and totally LOVED loved loved Checkmate: This is War, book one in the series. Books 1 and 2 are Viola and Travis’ story, and books 3 and 4 are Drew and Courtney’s story. You can read either one of the duets first, but they are all so wonderful, you are going to want to read them all!

Checkmate: This is Reckless is the start of Drew and Courtney’s story. If you read the first books, you have already met Drew and Courtney. Drew is Travis’ best friend and Viola’s brother. And Courtney is Viola’s best friend and she works for Travis. Courtney and Drew live together, and they have for a while. But it hasn’t ever been an issue because they are best buds. Drew sees Courtney as one of the guys and Courtney keeps her crush for Drew under wraps…until the night of Travis and Viola’s wedding. And then the fun really starts.

I freakin’ loved Drew and Courtney. They are hilarious together. And they are even better once Drew gets his head out of his you know what and starts seeing Courtney differently. Kennedy Fox have this knack for writing the best characters that have the best chemistry. Seriously, Drew and Courtney are explosive. I loved their friends to more story. I loved that they always had each other’s backs and they always supported one another.

But I will warn you about this. This is only book one of their story…and it ends on a cliffhanger. The bad news is…it is a doozy of a cliffhanger. The good news is, the second part of their story- This is Effortless, is out tomorrow! So you can binge read both parts of their story. Which is exactly what you are going to want to do. I have a theory that Kennedy Fox have laced the pages of their book with some kind of addictive property because I can’t get enough of these books. Seriously, I can’t read them fast enough, and when I am done, I kind of twitch until I can get my hands on the next installment. Everyone needs to be reading the Checkmate series. Everyone. It is one of my favorites. I think I like Drew and Courtney even more than Travis and Viola.

My Thoughts

Checkmate: This is Reckless is the fourth book in the Checkmate series and the second book in the duet about drew & Courtney. The checkmate series is by the fantastic writing duo known as Kennedy Fox. No one seems to know the identity of this mysterious author duo, but I am offering a reward of endless cookies if someone can tell me who they are. I promise, I am very good at keeping a secret. ;) ;) I read, and totally LOVED loved loved  Checkmate: This is War, book one in the series. Books 1 and 2 are Viola and Travis' story, and books 3 and 4 are Drew and Courtney's story. You can read either one of the duets first, but they are all so wonderful, you are going to want to read them all! So if you are new to the series, I recommend reading them all in order.

But you must read book 3, This is Reckless before you read book 4. This is Effortless is the continuation of Drew and Courtney's story, and I have to say they are my favorite! I can't see any couple topping them. But I also thought that about Travis and Viola, so who knows what the next couple's duet will bring. This is Effortless picks up right where This is Reckless left off. And though I am going to try my very best not to let any spoilers out in this review, I do have to express how deep my hatred for Mia runs. She is seriously bat poo crazy! I will never, ever understand what Drew saw in her.

But everything that I loved from This is Reckless was right there in This is Effortless. I love Drewtney so so much! They are great as friends and great as more. I love how supportive they are of one another. Plus Drew has the whole smoldering thing down pat and Courtney is just so much fun. I want to hang out with her! (or just take her place completely so I can have Drew. Either way...) Drew and Courtney do face their share of bumps and detours in this book, but they are the kind of couple that are meant to be together, so I was never too worried. You can feel their connection deep down inside, they really are soulmates. I love them so much and I was so so satisfied with their story. If you are a character driven reader who loves sexy romances that will have you addicted faster than you even realize, you need to read the Checkmate series. This is one you will want to binge read...trust me. Kennedy Fox has this knack for writing the best characters that have the best chemistry.

I have a theory that I shared in my last review- Kennedy Fox has laced the pages of their books with some kind of addictive property because I can't get enough of them. Seriously, I can't read them fast enough, and when I am done, I kind of twitch until I can get my hands on the next installment. Everyone needs to be reading the Checkmate series. Everyone. It is one of my favorites. I think I like Drew and Courtney even more than Travis and Viola. I can't wait to see what this author duo has in store for us next. I'm already going through a withdrawal from lack of Fox.

The Fae Games Duet is a new adult fantasy romance by Jill Ramsower. I love a bundle set like this because it is perfect for people that want to read books 1 and 2 back to back and have the completed duet in one place. I binged this bad boy in just a day and a half. I honestly could not put it down. The Fae Games Duet includes book one, Shadow Play and book two, Twilight Siege. I liked the second book more than the first book, but that is only because I felt like the first book took a little bit of time to get the story moving. But once the foundation was laid and the story started progressing, I was totally sucked into this world. I wish there were going to be more books that follow our main character, Becca. There is a third book that follows a different character, that I am interested in but I also want to see more of Becca and Lochlan.

In the first book we see Becca get offered a job at a museum in Belfast, which seems to be a job that is too good to be true. Once she arrives in Belfast, Becca quickly starts to notice some strange creatures around her, which leads her a world of fae living in Ireland. Some parts of the story were pretty predictable for me, but when we got to the second book, there were a few twists and turns that took me by surprise, which I loved. I loved getting to know Becca and getting to know more about the world of the Fae (and the really cool twist, intertwining the fae with Arthurian legend) and I loved so many of the characters. I found myself wishing that we would get to see some more from Lochlan and Ronan's perspective throughout the series. I love to see multiple perspectives, especially when a book features so many secrets. I really loved traveling to the twilight realm. I found that to be really, really interesting. The romance in both of the books is good. I really loved the romantic interest, but being a lover of romance myself, I did find myself hoping for a little more from that front. I would love to see a side novella or a part of Ashley's story that revisits the romance of Becca and her guy.

If you are a fan of fantasy books that feature fae, I think the Fae Games will be a duet that you will love. It features great characters, a nice romance, and plenty of action and adventure. Both of these books were a hit for me. I would love to jump back into this world for another adventure, even though the second book does wrap things up quite nicely. The Fae Games is an excellent read.

The Dragon Tamer is a young adult fantasy, and was a great start to what seems to be a very promising series. I have really been into dragons lately, so I was really excited to find a new young adult series centered around them. The Dragon Tamer is set in the world of Alveria, where in the past Humans and Dragons coexisted, but in present day Alveria, the dragon population has dwindled significantly. Because of this, tensions between the remaining dragons and humans are very frayed, and the climate between the two species is pretty hostile. This is the world that our main character has be brought up in.

I always find it fascinating when we get to learn the history of a new world because it really helps to set the stage for what kind of series this is going to be. In the Dragon Tamer, we meet Kaelan, who becomes an outsider because of her loyalties to an unpopular crown. She comes from a family of healers. But this is only the beginning. There are many secrets swirling that thrust Kaelan on a new path and a new adventure. One that I can't wait to see explored more fully in the next novels. The Dragon Tamer did a great job of setting the scene for future books. I loved Kaelan. She is strong and a touch stubborn, but I think that stubborness serves her well. I also really enjoyed Lasaro, and I can't wait to see what develops on the romance front in the next novel. I have a feeling it is going to get even better in that regard as the series goes on.

The Dragon Tamer had everything that I love in a fantasy- magic, an epic world, dragons, secrets and subterfuge. The world building was the real star here, which is always a delight for me. I love escaping to new worlds and when I can vividly picture the scenery, the characters and I understand their motivations, I know I am pretty much bound to love the book. Ava Richardson does such a phenomenal job of teaching us the history of Alveria, that it makes the present day county really come to life. I loved book one and I am super excited to see what is going to happen in the next novel. This was  a really great read!

I have heard great things about this series from so many people, but I have yet to read the books. The main series takes place with all adult characters, so when I saw this prequel novel was coming out featuring some of the characters are teens, I knew this was going to be the perfect place for me to start. I really enjoyed Gone Hunting and it wet my appetite for more of these characters and of this world.

I think it is going to be really interesting for me to have read this book first, before having read the main books in the series. I know most people are already very familiar with Aric and Celia. They have already formed opinions on them, but since I was meeting them for the first time, I feel like I get a unique perspective to meet them as teens. I loved this book. I especially loved reading from Aric's point of view. I am a sucker for a male POV in a story. It made me completely fall in love with him. (sigh) It got me so excited to grab Sealed with a curse. If you are a fan of paranormal romance, and you haven't checked out this series yet, I think it is one you will really enjoy. The writing is so much a fun and there is plenty of snark and humor to make you fall in love with the characters.

It is easy to see that Cecy Robson has a real talent for writing. I fell into her story so easily. In fact, I gobbled it all up in one sitting. Once I started reading, I just couldn't stop. I have a feeling this book will be beloved by all fans of this series, and it might be one I decide to revisit again after I read the rest of the series, to see if there are any little hints or foreshadowing of things to come that I missed on my first reading. (am I the only one that loves doing that?) Gone Hunting was a really fun, and really funny, adventure story that made me really excited to dive into the rest of the Weird girls series. Whether you are already a fan of this series, or new to it like I was, i think Gone Hunting is going to be a novel hat you will really enjoy.

Exposure is the third book in the Incandescent series by author Sylvie Parizeau. Each of the books in the Incandescent series can be read as standalones, but they are all set in the same world and there is some character overlap, so you would probably be best served if you read the books in order. I am going to be completely honest with you. I had every intention of reading the books in order, but the end of the year (and Thanksgiving totally snuck up on me, and I didn't have a chance to read either books one or two.) But, the silver lining here is that I wasn't lost or confused while reading Exposure. And I really enjoyed P.O.'s story, so now I am even more excited and determined to read the first two books because I am sure they are going to be just as awesome as this one.

Exposure is Philippe-Olivier Tisserot, or P.O. for short, and Auréle's story. PO is seriously one of my favorite characters I have read about all year. I don't know how anyone can not love him. First of all, he is seriously smart. Crazy smart even. I love a computer hacker. So I was rooting for him right from the first chapter. PO and Auréle were really interesting together. I think what I liked most about them, without giving too much away, is that their story felt fresh and different. Sylvie Parizeau took some cool approaches, and she surprised me, which if pretty hard to do in a contemporary romance. Most of the surprise was from Auréle herself.

We also got to see the main characters from the first two books. It was nice to see the end result of their stories and I know it was really nice to see them incorporated in this book for readers that have followed them from the first and second book. PO and Auréle had a wonderful slow burn relationship from friendship eventually to something more. I really enjoyed their story. It was a fun read, full of emotion and great character development.

Bottom line: fans of smart guys getting the girl, and slow burn romances full of heart will love PO. Reading Exposure certainly made me want to read the rest of the books in the Incandescent series.

I am completely new to Christina Bauer's book, so I wanted to pick one of her November Paperback releases that was the start to a new series. So even though, a bunch of the series look awesome, I chose Duty Bound because it was a prequel novella, where some of the other books were later novels in the series. I really enjoyed Duty Bound. It is the prequel novel in the Angelbound origins series, and best of all it is told from the point of view of the main male character, which is such a rarity in YA books. I love seeing a male point of view.

Prince Lincoln's family fights demons. Lincoln himself is a great character! He is very strong willed but he is easily someone that you want on your side, because he will really fight for what he believes in. Duty Bound did an excellent job of wetting my whistle and making me want to continue on in the Angelbound series. I believe the next book in the series is told in Myla's point of view, so I am curious to see how that will change my opinion on any of the characters. As it stands, I am very much enjoying this series. It is perfect for fans of paranormal romances. I have been on a demon kick lately when I pick up paranormal books, and this was a great series to dive into. I can't wait for more. I need to grab the rest of the books ASAP. (And I need to grab some of Mrs. Bauer's other series as well. I can't wait to read the Beholder series and the Fairy Tales of the Magicorum series.)
