Third degree both a coming of age tale for a young genius turned doctor and a really sweet romance of two people finding each other. Find the other person that truly gets them. Isabel and Marshall are both hiding so many parts of themselves. Isabel had multiple degrees, including her MD by the time she turned 18. She was all set to start her residency before her 19th birthday, when she found out that she failed her emotional readiness portion of her exam, and no residency program would take her. So what does an 18 year old doctor do when she has half a year of free time before she can re-take her exam? She goes back to college for a "normal" college experience.
Here she meets her RA Marshall, who seems to know about her situation. He kind of takes her under his wing to kind of socialize her. Isabel is so smart, but she sees everything as very matter of fact. She doesn't seem to connect emotions with her actions. Which I personally felt would be an asset to a doctor, but I do see where a more appropriate bedside manner would be beneficial as well. Marshall seems to be able to bring out her more emotional side, but it wasn't overnight and it wasn't easy. I loved loved loved that it was finally triggered when Marshall was sick. That was when I knew how good the two of them would be together.
Marshall and Isabel are both very stubborn though, so the road before them is not easy. There are so many moments when I thought, this is it. They have run their course. And there were a bunch of times where I wasn't sure if this was going to be your typical happily ever after book, and I was ok with that. I'm not going to tell you whether it is or isn't, but I will say that I was going to be ok with either outcome. This story seems to be so much about the individual journeys of the two main characters and it was done so well that it is enough of a story ending on its own. Third Degree is a great new adult book with substance and depth. The story felt realistic, very fleshed out and three dimensional. This is my first book by Julie Cross and I was very happy with it. I can't wait to check out her other books.

Lover, Divine is the first book in the Gods and Lovers series. This is an adult series, but it is also a prequel series for the young adult Prophecy of the Most Beautiful, book 1 in the Oracle of Delphi series. I didn't know this until I had almost finished the book. I read Prophecy of the Most Beautiful towards the end of last year, and I thought it was a great read. I love that there are now two series living in the same world. The Adult series are the stories of the Gods, and the Young Adult series is the story of the demigod children and the Oracle. Two different generations. It's really a cool thing that A. Star/Diantha Jones has created.
Lover Divine is the story of Apollo and a mysterious prophecy that has brought Siobhan into his life. In this world there are "influentional" families on earth that know all about the Gods and their rules and regulations from their land of Myth. These families act as an intermediary for the gods and help them carry out their wishes as their agents on earth. Siobhan is the daughter of one of the oldest influential families, the Law family.
When she meets Apollo, or Liam as she first knows him, she thinks he is an immortal created by one of the gods. I really liked how they clashed. He drove Siobhan crazy. They bickered and went back and forth all the time. I loved how inquisitive and questioning she was. She never took what he said at face value. She hated that he kept things from her and it was a constant source of fights for them. It made me admire her spunk and strength. She was not just going to bend to his will easily. I really liked how so much of their bond was through music. Apollo is the god of music and music is something that is so prominent and important in Siobhan's life as well.
Apollo was annoyingly cryptic throughout the book. He didn't reveal much about the fates and what led him here and he didn't really go into the prophecy in any real detail. He said that it had to be that way. It was very easy to see the differences in the characterizations of the Gods and of the mortals in this story. It felt very true to mythology. I also loved how devoted Apollo seemed to be to Siobhan. He didn't have to be at all, but you can tell that he truly cares for her. I hope in the next book in the series we get to see more of the two of them.
I am loving the world that A. Star has created and I can't wait to continue both series to see how they turn out and how they intertwine. I can't wait to find out more about the other influential families as well.

Heather Hildenbrand continues to surprise me with the dirty blood series. This book took the storyline to a whole other level. So much was going on, I am still trying to wrap my head around all of it. This is a great series. Blood Bond is really a book of discovery and answers in this series. Tara learns so much about herself, and we learn even more about CHAS and the hunter/werewolf society. A great installment in one of my favorite series.
I am so pleasantly surprised with how Tara handled herself in this book. She was on information overload. Seriously, I have no idea what I would have done if I had half the bombs that she had dropped on her. But she has really grown and she is so strong. I really admire her strength. And I love that Alex recognizes that strength and bravery in her. Blood Bond was much more focused on werewolf and hybrids than it was on the Wes Tara Alex love triangle, and while I missed my Tara and Alex moments from the second book, I was happy that the romance is not the main focus. Because now I can still hold out hope for Alex. I just love him. I like Wes too, but there is something about Alex and Tara. I think they push each other to be better. But even though Tara likes Alex, she is all about Wes. I am really pushing hard for this one to turn out my way, but I think I might be on the losing end of this love triangle. To be continued, I suppose.
The action is nonstop in Blood Bond. Tara has to deal with the George issue left over from the last story, plus she meets a crazy recluse scientist that holds lots of answers for her. And the crazy hybrids created by Miles pop up with a new master. All of these things get dealt with in this one book. Like I said, NON-STOP ACTION! I loved every second of it. I was on the edge of my seat- I couldn't read the pages fast enough. The ending killed me though. I need to read the next book to get to the bottom of it. I have a feeling there is much more than meets the eye with what happened. This is a must read series for anyone that likes paranormal books.

I am so fascinated by all things history, and Roanoke is a special area of fascination for me. I found myself stepping into Avery's shoes and living through her in Roanoke Vanishing because she loved Roanoke even more than me. I loved her passion for history. The historical mystery aspect of this book was so wonderfully done. It made for a riveting and kind of mystical story. The book alternates back and forth between present day with Avery as the main character and the past with Elinor Dare as the main character. I really liked that in the present we watched Avery try and solve the mystery of what really happened to the people of Roanoke, and in the past we got to see the authors rendition of what happened to the colony. It was so detailed and well done.
Avery is dedicated and so focused on her goal. I really liked that we got to see so much of her thought process while she was trying to solve the mystery. She is a history grad student and she is working on her final thesis. She comes up with a theory of Roanoke that the colonists were actually a group of separatists fleeing from England in search of religious freedom, and her theory spawned from that. Her professor shot down her idea and was a complete jerk about it. But she doesn't give up. And she even gets help from the original Elinor Dare. I loved that mystical "ghost" element thrown in. It was really cool.
The mystery is pretty intense in this book. Not only is Avery trying to track down what happened. A mystery that NO ONE in the historical community has been able to solve, but she has some super scary people breaking into her house and threatening her.
My only tiff with this book is with some of the secondary characters. Avery's friend Jen. I loved her at first, but then she did something that completely annoyed me. I get where she was coming from, but still I just don't know why she would do what she did. But my real problem was with Ethan. His connection with Avery just didn't seem real. From the second he met her, she was doing nothing but getting him in trouble. At work she was asking him to do things that could get him fired, after work she got him robbed at gun point. I mean this is not someone that I would fall for. Luckily, the romance aspect of this book was not the main focus at all, and Ethan was a nice guy so the kind of fast and forced romantic interest did not deter me from loving the historical mystery part of the book. I am hoping we will get to know Ethan better in the next book and I won't have this disconnect with him and Avery anymore.
The mystery overshadows everything else in this story. Which is just the way I wanted it. And I really loved how the author turned this book into a really awesome sounding series. This is going to be a must read series for me. I can't wait to see what Avery's next research topic is going to be. We get a hint of the general area at the end of this story and I am excited!

Almost Matched turned out to be different than I initially thought it would be. I thought it would be about bad boy players hanging out in bars and taking home different women every night, but the guy in the story Colin, is so much more than that. I really liked him. He is haunted by his past, and I feel like in the second half of this book we really got to know him and I loved that. This book set up a different kind of story than I was expecting but one that I think I will like even more. I am super excited for the second book.
Natalie is co-owner of a successful business and her business partner is a very causal relationship type of person. That just isn't who Natalie is. But she is in her mid 20s and she has been hurt multiple times before by guys. She figures she is ready for some fun. Enter Colin. Of course, it turns out to be more than just fun for either of them. Colin turns out to be such a sweetie. He was courting Natalie hard core. It made me swoon just a bit.
Almost Matched is a foodie's dream. I loved how on all of their dates, everything about their meals and wine were detailed down to the very last side dish and sauce. It was really detailed. Angela's writing was very vivid. I felt like I could taste the food and wine. Actually everything about her writing had a very realistic, every day life feel. Natalie and Colin's relationship seemed like so many new relationships. The honeymoon phase started to wear off and Colin started to act different, which started to cause Natalie to start over thinking things. And so on and so forth. But Natalie would never have guessed what the real reason behind his "off-ness" was.
Almost Matched started out great for me, and then around the 20% mark it got a little slow for me. But once I hit the halfway point of the book, I was out of the story slump and Almost Matched just kept drawing me more and more in. I got wrapped up in Natalie and Colin's story and it just kept getting better and better. I can't wait to read the next book. Now that the foundation has been laid and it ended up going in a different direction than I initially thought, I am super intrigued to see where the next book is going to go.

This series is FAN-FREAKIN'-TASTIC!! I can't get enough of it. I am actually sad that there is only one more book left in the series. I knew the third book would be awesome with the way the second book ended. (And one tip- Read the short story that fits in between of Book 2 and Book 3 to see what Eli went through in the time between the two of them. It is free on goodreads.) I love me some Eli and he was pretty mad at the end of the last book. With good reason, but mad is an understatement. I didn't know if he was going to kiss Ember when he saw her or kill her.
The Darkness series takes you all over the otherworld and explores both the light and dark sides of the Seelie court. I love how vast the world is. There are so many different kinds of Fae's running around. This is my favorite kind of paranormal book to read. One where there are tons of different creatures. Ember is so unique because she blows all the stereotypes out of the water. She doesn't fit into any group and she doesn't categorize people into any groups. She is friends with Demons, Dark Dwellers, Pixies, Fay, Sirens, and basically everything else in between. I love how even though she is the one that is going to bring a war between the light and the dark, I think she will also be the one to bring all of the different species together. She has a place with her dark dweller family and she has a nice place with the Unseelie King and the demon family. Plus, I love Cal and Simmons. They are just hilarious to me. I feel like the pranks they pulled and just their personalities provided some great comic relief.
Dwellers Of Darkness is the 3rd book in a 4 book series and I have loved every page of all three books. What I love the most about this story was Eli and Ember. I love Eli so much, and it is clearer than ever to me how right they are for each other. They challenge each other and get under the other one's skin. It is so much fun watching them rile each other up. And they finally admit their feelings to themselves! Let's just say it leads to some steamy scenes. Yay for that!
Dwellers of Darkness had a lot of planning for a big action step. Most of the real fighting action happened in the last third of the book, but the first two thirds of the book never felt slow. It was perfect pacing as always. I will admit that I did kind of see one of the twists coming, but it didn't take anything away from the story. It was satisfying that I got it right because I kept thinking it felt off. We learned a lot of secrets from various characters pasts and we got to know a lot more about many of the characters. It was a great third installment. The ending was crazy and I have no idea how Ember is going to pull everything off in the next book, but I can't wait to find out. One of my favorite paranormal series ever! It is a must read for anyone of fans of paranormal. I can't recommend this book enough.

The Romeo Club is a super cute match making book. Perfect for lounging by the pool or on the beach. Delyla helps her brother get a new look and the confidence to ask out his popular crush and it works like a charm. Suddenly his three geeky friends all want help from his younger, but popular sister. Delyla needs money to buy a prom dress so she quickly starts up the Romeo Club to help out her brothers geeky friends who have never been kissed or even asked a girl out. But Delyla is convinced that with the right clothes and some romeo lessons that she can land each of them their crushes.
I really liked getting to know each of the three guys. They were hilarious and adorable. Delyla is like one of the guys too. She gets along great with her brother and all of his friends because she is secretly a huge dork too. She loves playing all kinds of video games, but people at school don't know about that because she is dating a popular jock and she is a soccer jock herself. I liked how she didn't fit into any of the high school stereotype boxes. She was smart, played sports and was a huge gamer.
Throughout the romeo club Delyla starts to get closer and closer to one of the guys. The book is a little predictable but it was satisfying because what you want to happen, does happen. I liked that. If it was full of huge twists and turns, then I probably wouldn't have gotten the outcome that I wanted from the start. The Romeo Club is a funny and super cute romantic read. It is a feel good book that I think is a perfect spring or summer beach read.

Pan's Conquest is a quick read about romance between two very unlikely gods. Pan- the God of Fertility and Syrinx- the God of Chastity. Pan has pursued her for a long time. So much so in fact that Syrinx escaped their land to start over as a mortal on earth. The book starts out in their native forest and Pan is a bit of a horn dog player, and Syrinx is not having it. Sure, she is fighting off his pull, but she still doesn't want anything to do with him.
Syrinx becomes a florist on earth and she really enjoys her business, but she doesn't date ever. In fact, she has nothing to do with men. She only has one friend on earth; her assistant at the shop. I really did like her friendship, but one friend and a job isn't enough for her life. So when a handsome big client comes to the shop and takes an interest in Syrinx, her friend is all for it. She practically pushes him in Pan's lap.
What I liked about Pan's Conquest was that we got to see what Pan was like before and what he was like when he was in his mortal persona. And you could really see a big change in him. I loved the connection that he had with his butler. It was so sweet. Plus we really did get to see a softer side of him the more he got to know Syrinx. This was a Pan that I was rooting for. Back in the forest he was just looking for another notch on his belt, but on earth we get to see a change in him. Will it be something more for him? Will it work out with Syrinx? Pan's Conquest is a quick and fun read. I felt myself really connecting with the characters in just a short while and I was really rooting for them.

The Road to Somewhere is a super fun book. It is told in dual narrative between the two sisters- Charlie and Lucy. Dual Narrative is my favorite writing style "voice" for reading a book. I think it is a great way to get to know the main characters. Most of the time it is done between the main guy and girl of the story, but I really enjoyed the dual narrative between the two sisters. It was funny because in some ways they were so similar, and in some ways they were about as different as you can be. But this road trip was great for the two of them. I had so much fun reading this book. It put a smile on my face.
Lucy and Charlie are both great. Their strength is in their reliability. I could see them in myself and in my friends. They don't have all the answers, but that is some of the beauty of their journey. Charlie is about to start college, which can be super scary for a lot of people. But she has an even bigger goal for herself. And we get to find out all about that throughout the course of the story. I loved how supportive Lucy was of her older sister. (And don't worry! You get to learn all about Lucy's goals as well.) I liked both of the girls, but Lucy just stole my heart a little more. She is the quieter of the two girls and I think I related to her a little more. Even though I am the older sister, I can be pretty quiet when I want to be, especially when I was younger.
There are some cute guys thrown into the story. I mean, what road trip is complete with out at least one cute guy?? But the romance is not the main feature of the story, and I really appreciated that. Now I love a good romance probably even more than the next girl, but this book was about the sisters relationship and about their own coming of age tales, and the romance was secondary. It worked that way.
The road trip takes these two sisters all over the place. There are cowboys, ranches, Twists and turns galore. This book is a perfect summer read. I really had a great time with The Road to Somewhere. The ending left open the possibility of a sequel and I for one, am hoping that there is one!
