I was #gifted a digital copy of this book by @lovebookstours and the publisher @canelo_co in exchange for an honest review- thanks so much.
I read a lot of contemporary romances and ones that are described often as "heartwarming" give me the heebie-jeebies because I find them too cringy to enjoy. This book is a clear exception, however and I genuinely loved it.
Our "couple" - though as expected there would not be much of a novel if they were that from the start - are both damaged but ferociously independent, stubborn but likeable and the right mix of sweet and spicy to each other.
The surrounding characters are what usually makes a novel like this a little twee but they were sparky enough that that totally wasn't the case. A true, feel good triumph.

This novel started off although a year later, exactly where the first one in the series ended which is nice for continuity. Unlike the confusion that some people felt with the first novel, this sticks to one narrator - our eloko ex-social media celebrity who is coming to terms with everything that happened to her at prom a year ago.
As a narrator there is very little maturity and growth to be seen throughout the novel until perhaps the very end. I feel that there were numerous more likeable characters in the novel than our narrator which makes me a little confused.
I enjoyed hearing about ancestors and communication and finding "magic" of voice but really I have to admit that 80% of this book is no plot and then suddenly there is something that needs to be done at the end, almost like setting up for yet another book.
Interesting concept but not one of my favourites.

This book flew by for me and really brought me up when my mood was low to be honest.
A contemporary romance with a swoony love interest who is exactly how I like them - intelligent and a little bit awkward

"Scottish Prison service is about as efficient as a Scotrail Trolley Service"
As a Scot who has read a lot of Scottish police procedurals and tartan noir crime books in my lifetime, it takes something quite original to keep my interest piqued for the entirety of a novel. Dark Is The Grave managed to do just that.
The humour is SO GOOD - a lot of it is on point for Scottish readers and I really appreciated that!
The main detective, Bone, is a typical but just-as-we-like-them Scottish antihero. He merges rulebreaking and a passion for catching the culprit and keeping his team and loved ones safe in perfect harmony.
After being on leave due to severe trauma that happened at the end of the investigation to catch the elusive "peek-a-boo" killer, Bone is thrust back into a hauntingly similar investigation and is faced with a race against the clock to get to the bottom of things before his PTSD gets the better of him. Absolutely compelling.
This novel gripped me from about chapter 2 right until the last moment- and I DIDN'T SEE THE KILLER COMING which is a rarity for me.
Both myself and my mum who coincidentally bought and read this on kindle yesterday give this book five stars!

This is the first book I have even able to read or review since I have been unwell and it was the perfect read to come back to - the story was light (in a dark way) and it made for easy immersive reading.
I'm a big fan of shifter fiction so this book was right up my street - I would recommend if you enjoy similar but if you haven't read anything like this before please be aware that the content might not be up your street. The novel does have elements of alpha sexual domination and some rough and dark intimate themes.
Our main character Elena is a clever and feisty young shifter who isn't happy just accepting things as the pack tells her she should - I absolutely loved the stubborn nature of her and it made her even more alluring.
The alpha wolf in this novel is dark, mysterious, brooding, older and intoxicating and gives off just the right sort of vibes one needs when investing in an alpha male!
There is additional interest in this plot that took me by surprise in the form of a plucky beta wolf among other things, and let me tell you with the Cliffhanger this ended on I NEED the next book immediately!
A spicy, dark, wolfy read with hidden depth.
