I requested this book because the concept sounded so fun- a sort of Mulan meets Sewing Bee - both things I absolutely adore.

What I didn't expect was to end up completely in love with the characters and the story and to desperately need the second in the series!

My favourite romance trope has to be, and probably always will be enemies-to-lovers. The Layover was a top tier excellent example of this!

The protagonist, Ava, is funny and sparky. She is relatable and likeable and I found myself warming to her almost instantly. Her "antagonist", Jack, is an absolute sweetheart and the tension between them crackles from the getgo.

What is also a rarity for this book is the minor characters and the depth of thought in which which have been planned and executed- I honestly loved every single one of them right to the end of the novel.

It is also very easy to tell that Waldon is an experienced flight attendant, with a wealth of expertise regarding this on show in the little contextual details provided about Ava and her career.

Exactly what I needed to read this summer.

This book was fun and easy to read for the most part. The characters were very likeable and you really did want them to have a second chance.

The tension was sizzling from the start and the moments of comedy and heat between the characters was well written.

Unlike other modern romance novels, this book allowed the characters to have likeable friends who weren't also single- I hate in a book predicting where the follow up is coming from single friends meeting.

I did have a few difficulties with it, however. Although I believe the author used to be a bookstagrammer I feel like readers who don't do bookstagram will feel that it's all a bit of a joke after the very minor amounts of time the character put into it. There were some true-to-form things like photo opportunities and adding dogs but it was much more random and scattered than any booksta I have ever met!

Additionally - the fact that she had to use her love interest to progress with her book was a little problematic for me. I also didn't enjoy the sections of romance novel we got to see in the book - they detracted from the actually very well written modern narrative and didn't overly make sense.

I was incredibly excited and am very grateful to receive a copy of this absolutely stunning collection of stories and writings about Censorship from @randomthingstours and @imprint_27

I devoured these stories and actually read a lot of them twice - they absolutely enchanted me. There are allegories, criticisms and historical reflections among other writings in this collection and they all explore Censorship in ways that I didn't even consider prior to reading.

I have been introduced to a number of writers and perspectives and I cannot think of a better endorsement for this collection than to give you some of my favourite quotes from the book itself.

Each is from a different story within the collection.

Finally, it would be remiss of me not to mention just how beautiful this book is. Each story has an illustration, titles embossed in pink and pink pages separating the stories. It is stunning.

I recommend everyone picks this up - it will make you reflect on your privilege, the value of words and the nature of media worldwide.

REVIEW: Moggach is a new to me author so I was SO EXCITED to discover her.

This book is very hard to describe. It is very.. maudlin? Moggach describes heartbreaking bereavements and people's struggles but with such humour that you find yourself laughing out loud at the characters and the situations they get themselves in.

Usually any books to do with loss make me incredibly anxious but the writing style in this one is so full of zest that I have actually been flying through this.

I don't want to say too much but there are certain moments in this book where some of the encounters the main character has made me react out loud, and the Narration is IMPECCABLY clever. Giving this book a very enjoyable ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
