This book can be simply described as a beautiful homage to a loving adult father-daughter relationship and time.

The characters were each loveable in their own way and the relationships they have with one another. Though there is a small nodd to romance - it is the familial and friendship love which carries the most weight. I hold a particular fondness for Alice who is shown to have a strong sense of self without coming across as cold and doesn’t comprise on her desires throughout the plot.

It would have been easy for the author to push with a plot that waking up one day and finding herself married and with children would change her thoughts of it completely. Instead she is portrayed as appreciating that future but not feeling like it’s hers - which I loved!

The writing style was very clever - particularly with a plot on time travel it didn’t feel repetitive and just full of such heart warming moments.

What I loved most about this book is how the plots centres on the idea that some things are inevitable and out of our control. That only by living in the present can we move on and appreciate the time we have with loved ones whilst we can. For me personally who has lost loved ones recently - this message truly hit home and both warmed and broke my heart all at once.

I can definitely see myself re-reading and will be a go to recommendation to friends and family.

This was such an authentic and empowering audio book  - despite being such a short read, it has so beautifully captured the voice of young trans/non-binary people and their journeys of gender exploration into becoming their true authentic selves.

Through a series of interviews with trans youth and their families, this book gracefully navigates the topics of whether people as young as 6 can truly understand their sense of self enough to question their gender identity. I loved the way these interviews have been conducted with such care and shows both the vulnerability and joy felt by trans-youths in their journeys and particularly enjoyed the ending fictional interview of the trans narrator talking to their younger self.

Whilst I am a cis-female - this book is so eye-opening to the human experience of gender and what I took away from this more so than anything else is how the trans community embraces not just living as their most authentic selves in such challenging circumstances, but is a community which is nothing short of a catalyst for change in challenging gender stereotypes which impacts everyone. An absolute must read!

informative lighthearted slow-paced

This book contained various detailed passages regarding medical procedures,  the role of an Anaesthetist and the surgical environment which I found very insightful as this is a different perspective
from other medical memoirs I have enjoyed in the past.

That being said, sadly for me the balance of long-winded anecdotes with the odd scattering of humour made it a very slow read and became quite disengaging at times - to a point i almost DNFed at the 80% mark. I also felt that the way in which
Colin uses a lot of comparisons and particularly phrasings in the book came across a bit patronising and repetitive. I'm pretty sure the phrases similar to that of 'no 2 patient are the same', 'Autistic
patients are all different' where throw in every couple of chapters.

Overall whilst I did enjoy reading more about this role in medicine from being more than just 'someone who puts patients to sleep', I believe there are other much stronger memoirs I would recommend.

A lighter take on the classic murder mystery with the set of loveable and intriguing characters.

I was worried without a tense horror/thriller vibe that the murder mystery may fall flat but on the contrary it was quite clever and couldn’t predict the ending which I did really enjoy - no shock then why I finished it in one day.

That being said, there are a lot of characters and sub-plots to keep track of which did make it feel a bit drawn out and tricky to follow at times.

I curious to check out the other books in the series but do think I’m a reader who prefers more tension and darkened in a book about murder which limits the re-readability for me reflected in my rating.

TJR has once again been able to create a story which is so immersive and compelling you really felt like you’re on the court with Carrie herself!

I loved each character in their own right -  the bond between Carrie and her dad was beautiful and seeing Carrie’s character develop through her tournaments, training and love interest made it so powerful. The juxtaposition of powerful women being both admired and scrutinised by the media  was a fantastic touch - special note that these media segments are fantastic on the audio book!

I love how we get to experience the highs and lows with Carrie and the writing style captures so much emotion that it feels completely authentic!

This is easily my top read of the month so far … and possibly for the year! Certainly my favourite TJR book so far.

This book felt so difficult to rate as there is just so much to process whilst reading. A much heavier book than I had initially thought and very much an ‘everything-but-the-kitchen-sink’ type story so definitively check the content warnings if you’re looking to read.

Karin has done a fantastic job at setting the darkness and raw emotions throughout the story with some fantastic characters. The relationship dynamic between the sisters Charlie & Sam and how we can see them develop as people from their respective trauma.

There was a lot to unpack throughout the story which did make it tricky at times to follow as an audio book. I think where the book falls slightly short, is that by trying to balance so many heavy themes
E.g. School Shootings, Rape, Murder, miscarriages and Suicide
that it becomes over saturated and leaves a sense of numbness to some of the shock value these moments perhaps were meant to deliver. Ben

Whilst I did enjoy this book in various ways, I am not sure I’d read this again just for how heavy the book was but will be looking to listen to the shorter prequel as I did enjoy the writing style.

Having loved the silent patient and a sucker for Greek themes in books - I was really looking forward to this book. Sadly however, it just fell flat for me.

I love Alex’s writing style, making it a quick read BUT in spite of this, the plot progressed very slowly and just didn’t feel very well executed. I didn’t really care for any of the characters and found the FMC Marianna particularly frustrating.

The final killer reveal didn’t shock me as such, but the reasons did but also felt super out of the blue.
I mean finding out the uncle and niece were having sex is going to be a shock but felt nothing prior in this book actually alluded to this in anyway other than Marianna getting a ‘feeling’ it may be related to her husbands death’

Overall, I left feeling pretty disappointed as I feel the plot had so much potential which in this instance Alex didn’t deliver sadly. Despite this, I’m not put off from reading some of his other work on future.

A fantastic cat-and-mouse style mystery read which I absolutely devoured.

The book is fast paced and really easy to get into. The way Ashley has provided snip-its of past jobs and how the MFC experiences and interactions
with other characters help develop and feed into the present day story - chef kiss! I really enjoyed each of the characters in their own right with the
main plot feeling very cinematic with some really interesting plot twists.

What I really love most about this book is how clever the plot is! The way Evie/Lucca navigates the mystery and challenges in this book don't rely on lazy
cliches or coincidences, but are methodically making it feel very real which can make or break a mystery book.

Goes without saying I will be keeping an eye out for future works by Ashley Elston!

I forgot how much this book goes into the detail of moments which don’t really progress the plot - even though they are somewhat interesting to read - made it a slower read.

I enjoyed the depth we get with the Weasley family dynamics and the deeper delve into the relationship between Harry and Sirius Black -
because this, the death scene and subsequent grief following felt much more impactful

Truthfully this storyline is my least favourite of the series which makes is reflected in my rating but still enjoyed overall.

Fast paced with short chapters and 3 main  POVs made it a very easy quick read which I completed in 2 sittings!

I enjoyed the writing style with the details provided - particular in the surgical scenes. I found the main character Dr Jones  interesting though wish we had more depth
Like why she suffers from Trichophagia and her triggers
- the other 2 POVs of  Rachel and Margot were a bit lack luster.

I had very high expectations with the plot but felt a little let down as 2 of the 3 POVs are provided to create these sub plots which just felt surface level and a bit disappointing and the main plot twist was something I did predict at the 70% mark so wasn’t as impactful as it could have been.

The fact Margot was never pregnant - this realisation just feel so flat for me in the end. The request of Dr Jones about killing Margot as a final betrayal was a bit predictable given we knew that she wanted to talk in private with the gunmen and had already established she didn’t have the blackmail money

I did like the final chapter resolve a lot at it did give an eeriness to the end of book which I liked but overall I feel that it would of been a stronger story if focused on delving deeper into Dr. Jones’ POV instead of the other 2.
