so basically i get what holly black was trying to do here and add a new dimension to the jude/cardan dynamic. the power/agency dynamics between oak and wren were interesting, but by the end i really didnt care whether or not they ended up together because it was obvious they would have a happy fairy tale ending. it fell short from the original FOTA trilogy in terms of plot tbh

okay i have a lot of thoughts about this. maybe i'm reading it completely wrong but there was a lack of a thesis and no connection to the title of the novel. the art style felt like the only part remotely relating to the concept of monstrosity and it reads very woe-is-me, which is probably a personal issue and has little to do with the story itself.
