This felt like such a downer, and made me unsure about continuing the series when I checked how long the series actually was. I rated it highly because I do think that if I were in middle school this would have been my jam. It was nice to learn about more Peculiar abilities, creatures, and lore.

I listened to this as an audiobook that had a large cast of narrators to cover all of the different voices, and I adored it. I didn't know much about the book going into it, I knew I had liked the movie and one of my favorite narrators (Rosalyn Landor) was included. It is much better than the movie. Despite being told in epistolary style, the characters feel so rich and real. It was easy to see how Juliet would grow to love them, and they to love her.

I had been curious about this book ever since the movie came out and I enjoyed it. There are some character and plot changes, but I think the movie is actually a decent adaptation and I would recommend one if you like the other.

Love the cover, love the spooky fungi, love the zombie squirrels, love the representation of people not on the gender binary.

Bone dog is the best. I love T. Kingfisher, they are probably my favorite fantasy and horror author. The characters are lovable but often unconventional, the plots are satisfying, and there is usually some humor too even in a more serious story.

I picked this book up because I remembered how much I enjoyed The Twisted Ones by T Kingfisher when I grabbed it from the library a few years ago. I enjoyed this one possibly even more. I loved the antiques and oddities museum setting and I thought the horror aspects were creative. I really connected with the main character, possibly because I had just been left by my husband as well so her situation of needing to start over and dealing with the loss and betrayal were all very close to my own experiences. I loved the other characters, T. Kingfisher is really good at coming up with characters that feel unique yet like actual people you might meet, and letting their good qualities shine.
