An amazing conclusion to a wonderful series--but I wish there was more! I think these are books I'm going to have to own eventually because there is just so much to love about them. From the characters to the art to the conversations to the issues they dealt with, there's so much to find in this series.

Trigger warnings: blood, parental abuse, self-harm, violence, alcohol abuse

I'm torn between giving this 3 or 4 stars, so I'm giving it 3. In all honesty, the world building didn't impress me; I was confused for a lot of the time (and still kind of am?) Nadya annoyed me for a lot of the book because she just couldn't stick with any decision she made. Why?? Ugh.

I will say the magic system was interesting and probably the best aspect of the book. Serafin was my favorite character, as he felt the most fleshed out to me. More of him in the next book! I also enjoyed the narration in the audiobook. It worked really well!

I reviewed the first book in this series, Demons of Time, this past spring; Varun Sayal was kind enough to send me the second book to review as well! In this book, we get even more of the intricate world that Sayal has created. New magic, new villains, and lots of time travel.

One of the best things about Sayal's writing is his ability to create near perfect pacing. Not every action book has to have action every single second, and Sayal balances out the action in the book with plenty of down time. This means that the reader doesn't feel out of breath and is able to catch up with Tej, what he's doing and how he's feeling. It also gives depth to the characters, which is always key for me to connect to a book.

My only complaint comes in the form of there possibly being too many plots going on at once. It is a time travel story, so expect that there are quite a few people to keep track of. As long as you pay close attention, you'll be able to follow Tej and everything going on around him. Once you get the world down, everything else comes pretty easily.

4/5 stars
