I basically binged most of this book last night until I finished it. Brigid Kemmerer doesn't disappoint! Keep a lookout for a full review on Thursday. :)
I read the ebook of this, which includes all the illustrations at the end?? They would have made so much more sense in the rest of the novel, and made it more engaging.
This might possibly be my favorite out of this run, or somewhere near the top. The stories are standalone, and the poker game was probably my favorite. On to the next thing!
There were some interesting moments in here that will make for good book club discussion, but overall, the story didn't really capture my attention. Usually I'm all for character studies, which is what I felt this was, but it needed something to make it more engaging.

Thank you to NetGalley and Simon & Schuster for an advanced copy to review! Before we get into the nitty-gritty, can we just admire how absolutely beautiful this cover is? It's one of the reasons I requested it on NetGalley in the first place, though I had heard great things about the book as well. It should have been included on my June Releases to Watch Out For post, because it's definitely one you should keep an eye on.
Told in alternating chapters, we really get to get in the heads of both Maia and Chris. Despite a rocky beginning, they quickly become close, utilizing the freedom of summer to just be together. One of the things I enjoyed the most about was the journey that both of the characters go through. They're both struggling with their own problems, but with each other, they're able to kind of work through them, and I thought that was beautiful.
I also did a bit of research about this book, because it's a book with a transgender narrator by someone who isn't transgender. I always like to see if these stories are authentic to the voice they're portraying. For the most part, it seems like Smith does it justice, as long as you keep in mind that it isn't own voices. But! We should also make sure to support stories from Own Voices authors as well. I'll be doing a post about that later this month!
All in all, Something Like Gravity is a beautiful love story whose release date is perfectly settled in the middle of Pride Month. If you're looking for a slightly different romance to read this summer, definitely pick this one up!

A cute romance that'll work for B&N's book club. I definitely liked the second half of the book better than the first--though at times, the dialogue felt off to me. Not my favorite, but not my least favorite either!
This story is taking some interesting turns, especially at the end there, and I like the way that suspense is being built. The art was pretty good in this too; overall an enjoyable story!

I received a copy of this book from the author in exchange for my review. It is completely different from the things that I normally read! It's a short novella filled with dark humor and unique insights into the idea of parallel universes. This is the second book in the Prophecy Allocation series, but it's definitely a book that you can read on its own.
This book is a book that doesn't take itself too seriously, making it a fun and quick read. The author's voice is probably the best thing about this book, as it gives the book a sort of light-hearted feel despite the pretty dark humor throughout. This combination makes the book overall entertaining, and is the perfect book to keep on your phone when you might need something fun to read.
By the end of the book, I still wasn't quite sure what exactly happened in the book, but I can say that I was entertained throughout it. There is a lot of swearing, so if that's not your cup of tea, you've been warned.
I would recommend this book for anyone looking for dark adult comedy mixed with a little fantasy. Which might make a great beach read!

There is some absolutely gorgeous writing in this, and I think I just needed to be in the right mood. But! It was a good book club read and I'm excited to discuss in tomorrow night.

We received an ARC of this book at work, and I'd been seeing it around so I was so excited to read it! And I definitely wasn't disappointed. Craig has created a magical, dark, haunting world that consumes you from the beginning of the novel and keeps evolving as you get further into the story. The book overall has a dark fairy tale feel to it, and it's the perfect book to read when it keeps raining outside.
I do have to admit that the beginning of the novel felt a bit slow to me. There was a mystery kind of introduced, with Eulalie's death, but Annaleigh doesn't move very fast with her investigation. Of course, no one really believes her, which makes it difficult. But the story definitely picks up the further you get into the book, and by the end, you won't want to put it down until you know who's behind it all. There were a lot of red-herrings, and though the overall ending was slightly predictable, I still enjoyed the journey to get there.
All in all, a dark, atmospheric retelling that will engage you until the very end.
