I loved the first half of this book and then it just went downhill. The pacing was off in places with it backtracking so we got both POV’s. It was also a bit repetitive with arguments followed by making up and repeat. There was also a non consexual sex scene that was uncomfortable to read and it seemed to be played down. The domestic abuse of one of Caleb’s friend didn’t feel like it was taken seriously and I was hoping for a resolution. It was a long book for it to still end on a cliffhanger which did the opposite of what I assume was the authors plan. I’m now less likely to read book 2 because I read 417 pages and nothing was tied up.
I did enjoy the banter between Caleb and Ari and Caleb’s friends were adorable. I adored Ari’s mum but I would be fuming if my dad treated me that way. I am a sucker for friends to lovers and I loved seeing their relationship bloom. I just wish we had got the HEA we all read romance for.

This is a new police procedural series based in Birmingham. It was an okay read but it didn’t wow me. I really struggled with Jack. I love a badass bisexual female detective but she fell a bit flat for me. There was a lot of talking about climbing which didn’t hold my interest and I don’t think we needed that many scenes of Jack climbing. The killers identity did keep me guessing though. I would probably read a second book in the series to see if Jack is fleshed out more.

I don’t know how to feel about this series anymore. It used to be my favourite but it’s getting a bit much. There’s only so much trauma to the team I can read. It’s always a bit over the top and no one seems to be able to function without Matilda even though she’s always in danger. I swear that woman has more lives than a cat. I also hate cliffhanger endings and this series thrives off them.
That being said the team is full of lovable characters and I love the wheelchair user representation. With the team working a murder case alongside Matilda's kidnapping, there’s plenty to have you hooked. It keeps you guessing and picks up pace for the explosive ending. If you love over the top drama and shocking killer reveals then this is the series for you.

This is one of my favourite crime series. Nikki is so badass and I love her adorable family. The balance of her personal life and gritty investigation is done perfectly. I also love her team. They work so well together and we get to see more of an insight into Liams life with this book.
I had just finished an excellent fast paced book when I started this one so I found it a bit slow to get into but once it got going I was hooked until the end. As with the rest of this series it finished with a bang. The crime was heartbreaking and I could not stop reading. I highly recommend if you love a crime thriller series with a badass leading woman who fights crime and has a loving family.

lighthearted
This is a sweet small town romance with a touch of spice. I think there was 2 spicy scenes if that’s not your thing. It’s a slow burn strangers to friends to lovers and I really enjoyed it as I’m not a fan of insta love. Abbie and Carson are both such lovable characters and their banter was fun. It was nice to see Abbie realise on her own that Seth wasn’t a great person. The pacing did slow a bit in places but overall it’s a fun easy read. As a horse girl I loved the horsey element and a farrier boyfriend would be the dream because horseshoes are expensive.

I needed a bit of a break from the Kane & Alton series after falling out of love with some of the characters so I was excited to get stuck into this one. If you’ve read the Kane & Alton series then you will have met Beth before as the mysterious Tarot Card killer.
I really enjoyed the different angle to this book. Having Beth be both a crime fighter and a serial killer made it more interesting. Vigilante’s aren’t usually my cup of tea but I found myself rooting for her and liking her character more with each chapter. I also wasn’t sure how I felt about Dax at the start but he grew on me and they worked well as a duo.
Child murder is always a difficult subject to read but it was written well and although there wasn’t a major twist I enjoyed the hunt for the killer. There was also the added suspense of what Beth would do next. Kane & Alton are by the book detectives whereas Beth & Dax like to bend the rules and colour outside the lines. It is a bit stressful wondering how and if they will get away with some of their actions but it does add some excitement.

I think I might have preferred this book as we get to know more about Beth. I really enjoy her and Dax working together and seeing their relationship grow. Jo & Ty feature in this book more and although they usually annoy me they didn’t take over the case and seeing Beth interact with serial killer expert Jo added some tension.
I love the undercover operations they run. They always add a lot of suspense and Beth’s disguises sound amazing. The hunt for the killer kept me guessing and I love that we never know how the investigation is going to end.
We get to see more of Beth’s dark side in this book and I’m so invested in whether she will be able to keep her secret. I will definitely be checking out more of this series and look forward to getting to know more about Beth.

I adore this series. Bree and her family have been through hell and they are so lovable. I really enjoy when the detectives have a loving personal life and Bree has the cutest family. There are also many cute animals and we get to see Greta smash her new job as a K-9. There’s also a brief cameo with lawyer Morgan Danes which is another fantastic series if you haven’t read it.
This book is so stressful. Someone is threatening Bree’s family and Dana is a murder suspect. I thought I was smart for working out the twist for the motive but I had no idea who the killer was. It’s fast paced and I couldn’t put it down. As with most of Melinda’s books the ending was explosive and had me on the edge of my seat. I’m looking forward to another book and can’t wait to see what’s in store for Dana.
