mysterious tense medium-paced

I love this series. The twisted family members add so much tension. Abigail stresses me out because you never know what she's going to do next. I did struggle a bit with Laurel in this book because she's super smart but seemed to miss a lot of connections during this investigation. She did have a lot going on in her personal life though.

There are some great side characters that I love getting to know and Huck's dog is adorable. Laurel & Huck are really cute together and it's been so nice to watch them both come out of their shells. I was so stressed for both of them in this investigation. They always seem to end up with a target on their backs and I never know how it'll be resolved. The ending was explosive with a rollercoaster of emotions. I can't wait to see what Abigail gets up to in the next and how Laurel & Huck will deal with everything.

I really enjoyed this book. It's such a cute small town romance. I haven't read any of the others in the stand alone series but I will be going back to meet the others. The friendships are beautiful and there are some fantastic characters. The banter in the group chat was highly entertaining. Emerson's family is also hilarious and loving. Magnolia Falls is the perfect small town setting with some incredible side characters.

Emerson and Nash are such a sweet couple and they have fantastic chemistry. They work so well together. I'm also a huge fan of their honesty and ability to communicate. Beefcake is obviously the star of the show. Although I wasn't a massive fan of him calling any pretty woman his girl. I know he's only 6 but everyone saying how much game he has gave me the ick. Apart from that he was so damn cute and absolutely hilarious. His relationship with Emerson was beautiful and their family just melted my heart.

informative

This book is an enjoyable yet informative look at the history of varying 18 year olds. Some of them I knew but there were a few I hadn't heard of and it was so interesting to learn about what led them to be who they were. Loxton covers a range of people from all walks of life. She makes them all feel human and brings their stories to life. I enjoyed that she showed the challenges and hardships that they all faced no matter what class they had been born into. It was so interesting to see the concept of age change over the years. Her writing style is engaging and I think this would be a great book for young people interested in history.

How Was It for You?: Stories from a Sex Worker

Eve Smith

DID NOT FINISH: 38%

I struggled with this book. I did switch to the audio version which I found slightly easier to take in. There is some interesting information and it covers important topics. It explains well why sex work needs to be decriminalised. Unfortunately, I ended up DNF'ing at 38%. I found the tone extremely angry and bitter. It's also packed with internalised misogyny. I couldn't understand how she could look down on other sex workers and she has a huge issue with women working in minimum wage and retail jobs. She is hugely judgemental about any other women she works with or comes into contact with and makes out she is better at everything than all of them. It's quite disjointed and the writing jumps around a lot.
