What a life Pino Lella! What a life!
That one man can have endured so much, achieved so much and yet also be such an unknown boggles the mind. The book was part biography, part fiction because even with extensive research there were many unanswered questions about this horrendous time in Italy's history. I knew little about Italy's WWII story and found this story to be eye opening. The book took me a long time to read. It was one that I found myself having to put down and walk away from because of all the atrocities, heartache and tragic events in Pino's life. Knowing that these things happened made it harder to read at times. The book would have earned 5 stars for Pino's "story" but the writing style fell a bit flat for me at times. Thankfully, Pino's life experiences spoke loudly over the writing. His story would definitely merit 5 stars!

4.5 ⭐️ A heartbreaking story about a young girl facing the challenges of a devastating illness and finding a way to come terms with what it means for her life and her future.
This book made my heart ache in the best way! Abby and her sister receive a letter from their estranged father breaking the news that he has Huntington’s Disease, an incurable illness, and that it’s genetic.
Told in alternating timelines of before and after, we take the journey with Abby as she goes through the required steps involved in testing and the emotional aftermath of her diagnosis. This book gave me so many feels! I was so invested in Abby and the entire family. I loved how the authors gave insight into how the diagnosis affected the entire family - it was so raw and real.
Abby’s journey was one that was told so honestly - with the sadness, anger, despair and hope that you would expect. I definitely shed a few tears as I rode this roller coaster of emotion along with Abby.
But don’t for one minute discount this book as too sad! It wasn’t! At all! It was filled with so much love, friendship, acceptance, hope and joy too that ultimately it leaves you feeling like you read a happy book. The message that the joys and love outweigh the hardships in life shines bright as you turn the last page.
A huge thank you to the authors, Jessica Koosed Eating and Alyssa Schwartz for sending me a signed finished copy & Let's Talk Books Promo for providing an arc and buddy read of this amazing YA novel. This is on my highly recommended list - don’t let this one slip by.

I love a good police procedural, especially one with a strong female lead so I was excited to delve into this one, even if it was book 4 in the series. I will say that while not reading the previous three books didn’t hinder me or prohibit me from fully enjoying this one, I usually like to have the build-up in history from a series such as this. Which means I need to read the other books now.
There as a lot going on here with multiple plot lines in play. It all definitely kept me turning the pages quickly because I wanted to see where it was all headed and if my suspicions were correct. DC Maggie Jamieson had her hands full with multiple murders, a missing boss and a possible blossoming love interest!
I love how well crafted the story was and how Holten throws in some red herrings while carefully peeling back the layers, revealing an intricately plotted thriller. Be forewarned, this ends in a mouth open kind of cliffhanger, making you want to jump right into book 5 which sadly we can’t do. We can only hope Noelle Holten is furiously writing so we get to see what happens next soon.

This is not your average rom com - it deals with some hard issues including sexual assault and toxic relationships. Although I enjoyed the slow burn romance between Georgina and Lucas, it definitely felt secondary to Georgina’s overall story. In the end, this one felt more like women’s fiction than a romcom to me but I enjoyed this story of self discovery and it felt right that that should be the main focus. A well done audio & an enjoyable listen!
