beriboo's Reviews (411)

I'm sorry to say, I just couldn't bring myself to finish this book! Usually I hate seeing reviews from people who haven't even been bothered to see the book through to the end, but this one was just too painful to continue with. Reading is supposed to be fun, and this was no fun!!

I would have thought that the Fallen series would have been a great match for me, but there were just too many negatives here.

The Fallen series is, in a brief summary, about a girl who falls in love with a boy, who turns out to be an angel. She is a reincarnated soul who keeps meeting her angel and falling in love with him only to suffer what sounds like a pretty painful death every time they kiss, only this time it's different and she can kiss him and not die.

All of that we found out pretty early on in the first book, and nothing had developed from there. Luce, the supposed heroine of the book, is possibly even more annoying than Bella from the Twilight series. Her entire existence is just to love Daniel (the angel), there is nothing else about her. She is reckless and slightly idiotic, not brave and daring. Her motives are all about her, her love for Daniel, her her her. She's not anywhere near as interesting as she should be to get me hooked in the books, especially when, as readers, we are kept in the dark as much as she is about what is going on.

It's seems that that just fall in love because that is what they are meant to do, I'm not a romantic person by nature, so to me this is just ridiculous and lazy writing.

None of the characters seem to develop, grow or learn from their mistakes throughout any of the books.

What makes this book more annoying than the others is that every two chapters we are forced to repeat the scenario of Luce mindlessly stomping around through some last life, finds the past version of herself and the runs off, only to be followed by Daniel. It's in my fourth re-run of this that I just couldn't take anymore! Tell me something new!! Give me some clues. Anything please just stop jumping from one past life to the next.

After reading some reviews on here I realised I wasn't going to get my answers in this book. I would have to force myself to finish this and then do it all again for the fourth book! That's when I realised I just don't care what happens to any of them or why. I'll make my own little ending up in my head and be satisfied with that.

That sums up this series really, 2 1/2 books, possibly over 1000 pages into the series, and I just don't care about the characters!!

It's an easy read, and I could probably have this book finished by tomorrow evening. Instead I'll having a sulk about how frustrating it is and moving on to one of the hundreds of books I have waiting to be read that probably deserve my attention more!
