I was warned there would be lots of bug horror in this book, and I thought I could handle it since I made it through Camp Damascus okay. But then there was maggots. I really, really can’t do maggots.

Ugh I’m going to DIE of a fluff overdose 😩 I absolutely loved this. As much as I loved A Strange and Stubborn Endurance. Sweet and wholesome and just so good. I can’t even remember the last time I devoured a book this fast - the audiobook was twelve hours long and I finished it in a day 🫣

I feel like this book, unlike most of this author’s that I’ve read, had a lot of potential to be good. Unfortunately most of those elements just weren’t executed well. For a thriller, this book was incredibly boring up until the last 10-15%. I did not feel like the author had a good grasp on who her characters were as people, so when the narrative relied on them “acting out of character” it felt half-baked and fell flat. I have to say, the ending actually closing was a nice change of pace from all her other books with unsatisfactory open endings. The main character plotting to frame her friends was the only part that interested me, so it’s unfortunate that was such a tiny part of the book.
