This felt more like a sequel than Gathering Blue (but I still loved Gathering Blue)
Messenger tied books 1 and 2 together - they seem more independent of each other, (which I imagine Lowry intended) but the third was the glue. There's not a "solution" to the societal problems, but the story comes together in a realistic way.
Lowry has some serious talent. I love the message of this book, (and the books together) and I love how the Village values differences and the "true name."
This is beautiful book about sacrifice for the greater good. The ending was sad, but it was as it should be.

While I love this book and I love Lowry, I don't think this was her best work. And I still loved it.
**SPOILERS**
LOVE the imagery; LOVE the symbols; LOVE the mentioning of the boy with light eyes; LOVE the characters...however, some things were predictable––perhaps not as predictable for younger minds, for which this book was intended.
I thought the fabric and wooden 'stone' was weak. Again, I really liked it, but I saw a few weaknesses. Maybe they will be tied up in book 3.

Marvelous piece.
I think everyone should read this book. It records a horrible time that bewitched culture just like unkind adults can bewitch children.
Upon hearing there was a movie, I wasn't sure whether I wanted to see it because of what might be changed. I still haven't seen it.

A dark children's story. We need more of this.
While I liked the adaptations for the movie, I like the book better. Of course. This was such a creative idea.
