I read this book with my local thriller bookclub and went into it having read this author’s other novel (which wasn’t my fave but was still enjoyable). I was open minded and went in blind as always, only knowing it was a cult-based book. My feelings reading this book was that I wasn’t motivated to pick it up throughout the first half of the book. It only became bingable once the action and major plot points took place. I also struggled in liking any of the characters. I think it was a good creepy book but I wanted so much more. Also I don’t like open ended endings and I felt disappointed at the last sentence of the book. I don’t know if I’ll ever read a book from this author again since so far they’ve fell flat.

I had heard from some fans of this series that this book in particular was a bit slower than the others. I did feel that way with the first 50% of the book. It focused more on rehashing the first few books rather than adding in tons of new information. Once I got to the 70% mark, this book became so much more fast paced and I was hooked! My favorite thing about fantasy books is the political intrigue, and this book gave me that in the last half of it. I can’t wait to read the next one!

I read this book for my thriller bookclub! This was my most anticipated read for 2022 and I was so ready to dive in. I went in assuming that the “Paris Apartment”/building was going to be a character in itself and this book didn’t disappoint! The building had so much character and the author created this eerie setting that was enjoyable to read. I liked the antagonist personalities of all the characters and I don’t think I had any issues with any of them. It was super fast paced and I loved the short chapters. It also helped that each chapter left off with a great little cliffhanger. I recommend this book to anyone who is a fan of Lock Every Door by Riley Sager, since it had similar qualities.

*be sure to look up trigger warnings for this book!

I wanted to read this book due to the fact it’s main setting takes place where I live. The Inland Empire location made this read very fun to experience, since I could easily picture the environment and cities that the characters explore. I knew this was a detective thriller, and I’m not the biggest fan of those types of thrillers. I don’t think this was a bad book. The plot twist was a bit underwhelming but I think the book was well done. I won’t be reading the sequel since it just wasn’t my favorite. I think I had more of an interest in learning about the setting.

I listened to this on audio.

I read this book with my local bookclub and I found the themes of this book to be so vital and important. It’s lessons about life and mental health was done so well and made me feel I was reading something very philosophical. This was also a really fun read while exploring the different lives of the main character. It was quick and easy read and I’m happy I read it. Just a happy read!

I went into this book knowing it was based off Jane Eyre. I don’t know the story of Jane Eyre, so I still was going in completely blind. This was a super quick read but unfortunately it was very predictable so it fell flat in that aspect. I also wasn’t a fan of any of the characters. They all seemed like bad people! I did enjoy the final twist but I feel like it could have been done a bit better. I enjoyed reading this but was a tad disappointed. I will still keep reading books from this author since I enjoy her other books.

I’ll start by saying that I believe in Rachel’s story and truly feel she is a victim of the situation and Anna. I read this with my bookclub and we all agreed that sometimes the story was a bit long winded, but still provided us backstory to understand what happened to Rachel and how to avoid the actions of con artists! We also agreed that it was sometimes hard to relate to Rachel’s lifestyle in NYC, but that it doesn’t take away from her terrible experience. I think this was well written and would recommend to any crime aficionado or memoir reader.

This book was my first experience reading about main characters who were Muslim and South Asian. I think my favorite part of the book was learning about the cultures and how the main characters figured out the plot along the lines of their culture. I gave it three stars because it reminded me too much of detective-type books which are just not my thing. I appreciated the seriousness of the plot though and I think it was well done. This was a good book in my opinion, but I could see it getting more stars if you like detective/courtroom dramas.

I really liked this book! One of my favorite genres I’m finding I enjoy every time is African-based fantasy mixed with mythology. This book gave all that and more. Both the main characters are extremely likable and if you enjoy boy/girl on a journey, then you’ll love this book! I can’t wait to read the sequel! I liked how the story more-so focused on the character development more so than the setting/magical aspects.

A few words to describe this book: extremely unreliable narrator, kick ass action, and girl power! First half of the book was spent me trying to keep calm while reading a very anxious narrator’s worst case scenario plans. The second half was more fast paced and had a few gory scenes and lots of action. This is my second Grady Hendrix book and this one I liked much better than Horrostor. I do recommend this book only if you enjoy horror/thrillers.
