How to Tell When We Will Die: On Pain, Disability, and Doom

Meh. Was expecting more medical related stuff and less relationship/sexuality talk. There’s a time and a place (which I’m all for!) but this book wasn’t… upfront about that? I want medical/disability memoirs. This talked about disability so briefly despite it being in the title.

Main character literally assaults someone and mentions his “huge penis” approximately 5 times all within the first 50 pages

Sorry folks can’t do it

I gave it two hours. Can’t keep going.

Jane and August have zero chemistry. Storyline is weird.

Moving on.

The first one was so good and ended on a cliff hanger but I just do not like either of the main characters in this one and the plot is boring to me.

Officially giving up on this one. I’ve tried starting/stopping this for over a year but I finally decided to call it 😬

The synopsis sounds like something I would love but unfortunately I was just bored 🤷🏼‍♀️

Finally decided to give up on this one. As a plus sized person, I found a lot of the dialogue to be triggering and overwhelming for me. The social media comments/messages are extremely negative and just not good for my mental health.

Also I’m not a bachelor/bachelorette watcher so I was completely disinterested in that plot line.

This is the exact kind of book I should like, but it was not what I was expecting. This was supposed to be a book about birding and conservation, but it was more about the author's journey to birding. Which is fine-- but the synopsis and marketing should be different, as it seemed misleading. Of the chapters I did read, I struggled HARD with the writing. Every other sentence had a word I didn't know or understand. I felt like I needed a Ph.D. just to understand the descriptive words. Speaking of descriptive words-- how many different words do you need to use to describe the color green in ONE sentence?? This story was also very non-linear and didn't flow well at all for me. I had to DNF because I was actually getting frustrated reading this.

I really could not get into the author’s voice for narration. Also, I understand the need of context regarding animals and the farm industry, but some of it was very graphically described and I had to skip over some parts because of it. Definitely not for a major animal-lover.

I wanted to love this so badly… but I just could not get into it!! After nearly 100 pages in, I decided to DNF because I didn’t want to waste any more time reading a book I wasn’t enjoying! This one just didn’t live up to the hype for me!

→ Things I Disliked: no quotation marks for dialogue (??? I really hated that & got so confused), and honestly I didn’t like any of the characters 😬
