Some of the best representation of a transgender child I've seen to date.

I'm always keeping an eye out for new books with a transgender main character, especially books that actually explain what being transgender is or feels like. I've read a lot of them, and whilst every bit of representation is important, some are better than others. There is a fine line with these picturebooks between informative and patronising, and some tend to lean too far into the latter. This however, does not.

This is definitely one of the books I will be recommending from now on. The art is beautiful, and the way that Nisha slowly begins to look more like herself is a beautiful visual for children, without valuing specific gender stereotyping. Everyone is accepting of Nisha (there is no transphobia in this book!) and the fact that the term Gender Dysphoria is used as all is bonus points in my book.

This is a great step and very exciting to see.

A hilarious re-imagined version of Little Red Riding Hood, featuring a little boy and a lot of Ginger Beer!

A great way to get kids laughing and changes up the kind of children who might enjoy the story.

I might consider using this with older children who already know the story, as a creative writing take to reimagine well known tales in a funny way.

An interesting and fun traditional Panjabi tale, written in both English and Panjabi.

It is the tale of how the tortoise got its hard shell, using its clever wit and trickery, and teaches that greed and selfishness will lead to your downfall.
