This book was an adventure full of mystery & dark twists.

Highly recommend.

The Princess Bride is one of my favorite movies of all time & I was nervous to read the book bc I thought it might not be as good as the movie & unfortunately I was right, which is disappointing bc the book is always supposed to be better than the movie! Although I did enjoy the actual story of The Princess Bride, I hated the way this book is presented as an abridgment. It was kind of confusing & added absolutely nothing to the plot in my opinion. 

Also, I read the 30th anniversary addition which includes the first chapter of Buttercup’s Baby, which is apparently the (probably fake) sequel to TPB, & again, I liked the story but hated all of the pointless asides. If I ever read this book again I’ll just stick to the main plot & Goldman’s pointless asides. 

Meh. This book was predictable & not very interesting. It did reawaken my love for National Geographic though, so there’s that.

I wasn't in the mood to read historical fiction when I started this book, but I was quickly sucked into the story. The characters were so realistic, and I was in awe of their ability to persevere in the face of so much suffering. There were some random chapters & the ending felt a bit rush, but other than that this was a great read.

 

This book is too long and full of useless detail. It felt like the author was only trying to show off his big manbrain. I think I'll just go read the SparkNotes.

I enjoyed this book but at the same time the plot let me down a little. Addie sells her soul because she wants to really live and experience the world but she doesn’t hardly go anywhere or do anything. The story is pretty much just about the people she has hooked up with. I did like the prose (even though it was quite repetitive) and the ending though.

Wow! What an original, spooky, dark book! I've never read anything like it! I loved the folklore interspersed throughout this story as well as the plot of the book. The only things I didn't like were Isaac (I would have ditched him and run away with Thistlefoot so fast) and I thought the relationship between

Bellatine and Winifred

was a little weird. 

This book is a paradox to me. I loved the first half but hated the second. It's filled with stunning prose and, at the same time, convoluted rambling. It gave me intense feelings while also being mind-numbingly dull. Mostly, I'm disappointed because I'm a sucker for unhappy endings and I thought this book was going to be Fleabag-esque.
