This book is kind of a mess, especially the first half. The magic doesn’t make much sense & none of the three main characters have any critical thinking skills. But, the second half had quite a few interesting surprises that ended up saving this book from being a flop for me. 

This book puts the epic in epic fantasy! It’s refreshingly new while also feeling like a classic. The worldbuilding is grand, the characters are intriguing, and the plot is full of dangerous adventures. I can’t wait to read more of this series!

My only complaints are that Tané wasn’t in it enough and the climax was very, very rushed. 

This book was really predictable but still enjoyable. I didn’t like Violet & Kate at first, but after they grow & find their strength the plot gets better. I’m bummed that none of the women use their magic all that much though.  

Time travel is incredibly complicated & confusing but the plot of this book was fairly easy to understand & also really good. Emily St. John Mandel’s ability to create so many complex characters & intertwine their lives is my favorite thing about her writing. And, of course, her pretty prose.

This book was meh. Not spooky enough, the main character happens to guess exactly what’s going on all the time without any clues, & when the villain is caught they spill their guts to a ridiculous degree.

What a wild book! The first half was a little slow but I loved every twisty minute of the second half.

This book was almost good but I didn’t like the main character & the plot was uneventful.
