As a Harry Potter fan who had a crush on Draco, I really enjoyed this book! I love hearing people’s anecdotes, and hearing them straight from Tom was such a fun experience. 

What I wanted: Gothic Horror
What I got: YA Romantasy, which is my absolute least favorite genre
Needless to say, this book was not for me. The main character was so immature, the prose was too purple, & the story made no sense.

Chilling, haunting, tragic. The perfect literary mystery. Truly a modern classic. Even better on a reread.

A funny, filthy, fiendish ”memoir” written by a femme fatale about her cannibal-foodie days, with an underlying story about female friendship. What’s not to love?

A unique premise but a pretty standard plot about joy, grief, holding on, & letting go.

This was not the Gothic mystery set in 1920s/30s Barcelona that I was hoping for. The plot is so slow & boring, I couldn’t wait to get to the end, but the ending was so confusing that all I’m left with is questions! My best guess is that this book is about the devil driving an already severely mentally ill man, who has dissociative identity disorder & is hallucinating most of the time, to even greater insanity? Which sounds like an intriguing read but it’s poorly executed. The atmospheric writing was the best part of this book for me.

P.S. The author still sucks at writing women.

Not as informative as I thought it would be & the writing is quite unorganized. This book is more of an introduction to feminism, so I wouldn’t recommend it to any of my friends who are already feminists.

Books like this one are exactly why I love historical fiction. I learned so much about Chinese history & culture while also being immersed in a great story about an inspiring woman.
