It was pretty much the first one all over again but like, in a good way. Namely hunky himbo barbarian and stubborn human woman shack up in a cave and fuck a lot. all in all just another fun romp but nothing the first one didn’t give. This one did not have the same amount of triggering info the first one did so if you felt like skipping that one you could with little missing.
Since I am a baby millennial who reads romance novels I knew I needed to read the TikTok sensation Ice Planet Barbarians by Ruby Dixon eventually. I didn’t want to start here since I had heard it was kind of wild, and let me tell you it absolutly is, but also like, lives up to the hype (am I a monster fucker now? idk man maybe I’m a monster fucker). Basic premise, aliens kidnap aprox 12 human women to sell into alien slavery (implied sexual slavery). *Trigger warnings for SA and Suicide* The first bit is harsh not going to lie with a vague account of assault to a non-main character and there is a later occurrence of (probable) suicide but those are the most questionable aspects of the book and take up very little plot time. The characters quickly find themselves not with their alien kidnappers and stranded on said ice planet where they soon meet said barbarians, who are big and blue absolute himbos with monster dicks made for fucking (seriously, they include an extra nub just for your clit, the main character pictures a rabbit vibrator), and a deep deep love for going down on women, really what more could you possibly want. Seriously himbo vibes off the chart – wildly buff and constantly drinking their respect women juice while still picking you up and carrying you around, hot. The sex was pretty hot, particularly in the way you can use ‘alien’ as an excuse to dramatically improve male anatomy. Very quick easy read, started and finished this afternoon/ evening and was enjoyable with hot bits scattered at strategic points so you never get too lost in the weird alien shit without a good satisfying sex scene.
My overall impression of this series is really positive, the premise is fun, the characters are interesting and well developed with internal motivations which make sense. I will say I found some of the plot beats of the 2nd book to be kind of repetitive but the 3rd book really shook things up and was really pretty different plot wise (excluding the standard romance things which are like, standard). Overall I found it to be a pretty fun sci-fi romp with just enough well written romance that it was clear a woman wrote it and not a George Lucas wannabe dude bro.
So I read this book because a TikToker (magicalmolly) recommended and I like her content pretty well overall. I believe she described this as Khaleesi and Khal Drogo fanfic where they actually talked and her brother wasn’t shitty but then the author changed the names around to publish it. She’s not wrong, major differences, this takes place on a different planet and the Dakkar (Dothraki) are aliens, yes I read more alien stuff, trust me I also want to find a new genre. These ones are more humanoid than the previous 2 though so glad about that. This was honestly like, a pretty good story, it was engaging, the sex made sense in the context of the plot, there was really good character growth on the part of like all the characters. All in all I really enjoyed it more than I thought I would.

I feel like at this point I generally know what I am going to get from Dixon which is interesting world building, scrappy ladies, and big ol himbos who would never force themselves on a woman and really, really, love eating pussy and you know, sometimes that’s all you want. This series takes place in an earth that has been terrorized by dragons for the last 7 years after ‘The Rift’ opened in the sky and they flew through into our world. The human population has been understandably decimated and humans mostly huddle together in forts trying to stay alive and avoid the dragons. We find out that the dragons not only have a big scary ‘battle form’ aka dragon form but also a hot human dude for that they use to mate in and they really really want mates. Something about Earth has set them all off into a murderous rage and it is not until they claim a mate dose their mind return to them. The overarching plot of the series is interesting as we find out more about why the dragons are here and what happened to them. I will be honest I have only read the first 4 books so far and I will probably stop there for now, might go back and read a couple more later. It’s a little bit like old tv that wasn’t meant to be binged where each episode (book) is good but there are all a little too similar to watch (read) in short succession.
