This was a pleasantly surprising and heartwarming read!
It was nice to see what good came out of such a traumatic event, and I'm glad that the book kept its focus on the people in Gander, it really helped to connect to those people.
Something I took away from the book was how COMPLICATED everything was with border control and any process related to that, since there was no precedent for such a huge homeland security breach.
Anyway, very good read, would recommend for an uplifting read that promotes the power of thy neighbor!

This was an interesting one, I tight the story started out really strong, established some interesting themes and storylines I was excited to explore. I found that the book kind of just , fizzled out towards the end? I don’t know.
I enjoyed the representation of anxiety, and how that related to the characters. The characters themselves were quite well written, the relationship between Alex and Isaiah specifically made the entire reading experience worth it.
This this would be a great read for a YA audience in understanding racism and gun violence in America.

Oh, my heart.
Loved this own voices story, I found it informative and heartwarming all at the same time.
Something of note that I wanted to point out is that this book talks candidly about getting braces, which I think is really cool for a middle grade book.
I being able to learn more about the native tribes in the area that I live, and how far we still have to come in honoring native voices in the Pacific North West.

Subject matter just didn’t grab my attention, I’m sure this is a perfect travel memoir for someone though!

O o f, what a disappointment.
Going into this, I was excited for: small town pacific northwest vibes, a wheelchair using character, bookstores/records.
With the things I did like, I enjoyed all the literary references, and it was nice having some handicap representation in a book, whether that was handled well is not for me to say.
And onto the bad, getting through this was a TRUDGE, I understand that not every story has to have likable characters, but the author really took this challenge on.
I thought they handled the topic of addiction pretty awfully, the main character made such baffling decisions, and the romance was just…… NOT it.
Overall, a bummer of a way to close out my reading month, onto the next one.

Well, decided to re-read my middle school favorite book to see how it held up, and it did for the most part!
This story takes place in the city of Olympia, where I am from! I can picture of vividly the scenes that are described in the book, which always makes me feel so homesick. So that was a treat to be able to read again.
Unfortunately, since I am not reading this as a teenager anymore, I found a lot of the dialogue to be juvenile and rather annoying at points, and was wanting to get back to the main plot points. The characters were also not as lovable as I remembered them to be, and the plot was not wrapped up in a way that I usually enjoy.
Overall, it was a fun and quick read, and would be enjoyed by anybody looking for a nice slow pace to read. Especially if you love the Pacific Northwest!

A quick and beautiful adaption of the hit song from the one and only, Dolly Parton! Would recommend to any parent wanting to teach their kid about love and acceptance.

A nice quick and informative read illustrated beautifully to enhance the information being presented! This is a great adaptation of the author’s bestseller of the same name. Great refresher for adults, I for sure picked up some new knowledge, but would also recommend to any young reader who is interested in maps/history!
